In this study we intend to analyse the relationships between entrepreneurial orientation, market orientation and performance at the individual level. We propose the concept of individual entrepreneurial orientation (IEO) and a measurement scale, and we use the individual market orientation concept (IMO), measured with i-MARKOR. The main objective is to analyse the relationship between IEO, IMO and performance of teachers and researchers of the public higher education institutions (PHEI). A conceptual model is proposed representing the relationship between these variables. The results of this research can be highly useful in understanding the interaction between the analysed variables and their impact on the PHEI.PEst-OE/EGE/UI4056/201

Web site quality evaluation in Higher Education Institutions

    Get PDF
AbstractThere are increasing concerns about the degree of quality delivered on the Web. Considering the competitive environment where Higher Education Institutions (HEI) are inserted, they should, as other organizations do, use their Web sites as a marketing tool. To measure Web site quality we used Aladwani's and Palvia's instrument [2], which evaluates quality from the user's perspective. The main conclusion of our study relates to the fact that HEI aren’t committed to using the Web site as an effective marketing tool and, therefore, much work still needs to be done.Academics are fundamental concerning Web marketing in HEI, since they may contribute to enlarge the knowledge in this area and alert HEI to the role that Web site quality may play in today's extremely turbulent and competitive environment

Information and communication technology (ICT) skills and job satisfaction of primary education teachers in the context of Covid-19. Theoretical model

The Covid-19 pandemic has shown that educational systems must have an online component or even a substitute. However, the efforts for this necessary transition fall largely on the teaching staff, who have been forced to quickly adapt their activities to a virtual environment. In this study, a theoretical model for analyzing how teachers’ information and communications technology (ICT) skills and the integration of these technologies influence the improvement of teaching and teacher job satisfaction is introduced. The model also pays special attention to the gender gap related to the use of ICT in teaching. At the empirical level, the model is validated on a sample of 257 Spanish primary school teachers, using the partial least squares (PLS) structural equation method. The results of the analysis show that, although the teachers’ ICT skills help them improve their teaching activities, such skills do not have a direct impact on teachers’ job satisfaction. However, teachers who integrate ICTs into their teaching activities not only improve their results and lighten their workload but also enjoy higher job satisfaction, which translates into more motivated and committed teachers. In addition, teachers’ ICT skills influence job satisfaction in different ways depending on gender. Although, for female teachers, the integration of ICT increases their job satisfaction, the results show that, for male teachers, this integration should generate improvements in teaching to yield enhanced job satisfaction. As the main implication, it is recommended to invest in teachers’ ICT skills, as these lead to enhanced efficiency and motivation and enable the change toward an ICT-based teaching model.

The empiric literature regarding on technological innovation suggests that cooperation has a highly positive effect on the performance of firms’ technological innovation, however, very little is known about its impact on the organizational innovation. To fill this gap, the present study aims to analyze the impact of the external relationships with business and science partners about the capacity of firms to introduce organizational innovation. To reach the objective proposed, a quantitative investigation was chosen, based on a sample of 684 firms. Data were obtained through the inquiry CIS 2010 – Community Innovation Survey 2010. There came evident the external relationships established with business partners and with science partners on the performance of organizational innovation of the firms. This study contributes for the development of the existent theory when analyzing the external relationships of firms and the innovating development on the organizational level, considering that the investigation that has been carried out about innovation has been focused, in general, on the technological innovation

Motivation to learn is one of the most relevant aspects of student success in the learning process. Measuring motivation is essential in all higher education institutions (HEI). It is also important for teachers to understand the best way to encourage and motivate their students to make enforces in their constant learning. This study’s general objective is to understand if there are differences in motivation to study Marketing curricular units between Portuguese (PT) and Brazilian (BR) students. We applied the Academic Motivation Scale to 156 students (82 PT and 74 BR) to measure their motivation and understand significant differences. The results showed that both groups of students are intrinsically and extrinsically motivated to study Marketing, although Brazilian students have higher motivation indices. This study contributes to the evolution of knowledge in higher education. It allows institutions to take short, medium and long-term measures on how to increase their students’ motivation levels. The use of the scale adapted to Marketing is also one of the contributions to future studiesinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Internal market orientation in higher education institutions – its inter-relations with other organisational variables.

Organisations increasingly realise that workers are essential to act in face of the changes that occur internally and externally, so understanding the needs and desires of the workers and how to address these issues is essential. Our main objective is to analyse the relationships between internal market orientation and job satisfaction, organisational commitment, organisational citizenship behaviour and performance. Therefore, we propose a research model. Direct and indirect relationships exist among the variables, although some are insignificant, so the model has an empirical foundation. Specifically in higher education, commitment, satisfaction and performance appear to be moderate. However, the display of organisational citizenship behaviours is, on average, moderate to high. Also, internal market orientation in this context is low.
