INTEGRATING CULTURE, SONG LYRICS AND TECHNOLOGY IN TRANSLATIONCLASS
Translation class which is dominated by writing activity can be dull and boring for
university students if it is not well organized. Some teaching techniques are introduced to
minimize the dullness of lecture. One of them is using students’ interest, that is using
song lyrics rather than article taken from text book as the source text. This teaching
technique can be the best alternative since almost all students like music and sometimes
they do not know the meaning of the song they sing or if it is Indonesian song, they can
not find the best equivalent in English. This teaching technique can be considered as
personal learning because the students can choose any song lyrics they like. By using
song lyrics students will find the excitement and enthusiasm while they doing the tasks
which they cannot find when they are translating articles, especially when they are asked
to do the task using their own laptops. Nowadays, less students bring dictionary in the
class because almost all of them have dictionary programs or application such as
kamus.net, indotranslate.com and googletranslate in their laptops or smartphones. Some
of the programs and application can translate not only a word, but phrases and even
sentences into the target language. This effortless way of translating has missed one
important point in doing translation, that is culture. Culture in this discussion should be
seen in a broad sense. Culture is not only understood as the advanced intellectual
development of mankind as reflected in the arts, but it refers to all socially conditioned
aspects of human life (cf. Snell-Hornby, 1988: Hymes, 1964). With technology, students
can easily type the words, phrases and sentences into the search box in their dictionary
program or application but the outcome is sometimes awkward and unsuitable to the
target language. The outcome of translating process should be natural and suitable to the
target language as Nida and Taber (1969) stated that translating consists of
reproducing in the receptor language the closest natural equivalent of the source
language message, first in terms of meaning and secondly in terms of style. A translation
process should involve culture to find the best meaning and style in the target language
so that the text can be as natural as it can be. Moreover, Will in Noss (1982: 3) stated
that translation is a transfer process which aims at the transformation of a written source
language text into an optimally equivalent target language text, and which requires the
syntactic, the semantic and the pragmatic understanding and analytical processing of the
source language. It is clearly stated that culture takes important role in translating
process and students need to learn to involve culture in the translation process in
interesting and exciting ways. In this teaching technique, students are given English song
lyrics and they are asked to translate them in Indonesian and they are also given
Indonesian song lyrics and they are asked to translate them into English
Complements or substitutes? Immigrant and native task specialization in Spain
Learning about the impact that immigration has on the labor market of the receiving nation is a topic of major concern, particularly in Spain, where immigration has more
than doubled from 4 percent to roughly 10 percent of the population within a decade. Yet, very little is known about the impact that large immigrant inflows have had on the labor market outcomes of Spanish natives. Furthermore, most studies assume that natives and immigrants are perfect substitutes within skill groups –a questionable assumption given recent findings in the literature. In this paper, we
first document that foreign-born workers are not perfect substitutes of similarly skilled native Spanish workers, which may help explain why immigration has not significantly lowered natives’ wages. Instead, immigration has affected the occupational distribution of natives. Specifically, owing to the comparative advantage of foreign-born workers in manual as opposed to interactive tasks, natives relocated
to occupations with a lower content of manual tasks –such as technical and alike professional occupations, clerical support jobs, and sales and service occupations. Yet, possibly owing to the significant and simultaneous reduction in the manual to interactive task supply resulting from the increase in the share of native female workers, the increase in the relative supply of manual to interactive tasks from
foreign-born workers does not appear to have significantly changed the overall manual to interactive task supply in the Spanish economy
Familiarization and Confidence: Factors Affecting Young Learners’ Speaking Test Performance
Acquiring second language for young learners is a challenging task for them especially when it comes to speaking competence. Speaking may be the hardest competence that young learners have to master as it involves many aspects of language skills such as grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency at the same time. Young learners find difficulty in expressing their thought and idea in spoken language as they have to combine what is in their mind with the target language and then express it orally. These young learners finds difficulties in expressing their ideas in the target language because they have limited knowledge in vocabulary and grammar while speaking is the key skill in primary school foreign language curricula as the learners develop their social-awareness and become competent speakers of the target language (Toledo & Hoit, 2016).For this reason, some school holds English Proficiency test which include speaking as one of the test. Young learners or primary school students need to practice speaking more as it is the medium through which language is encountered, understood, practiced and learnt, (Cameron, 2001).This study aims to find out what are the factors affecting young learners’performance in speaking test and to find out what problems encountered by young learners in speaking test. This study was done in a private school in West Surabaya, Indonesia and the subjects were 87 students from second grade to sixth grade. The research instruments are questionnaire and interview. This study was expected to help students with their difficulties and improve their speaking skill.

Peranan Media Kartu Arisan Fisika (KARSANFIS) Dalam Pembelajaran STAD Terhadap Hasil Belajar Fisika Siswa
The monotonous physics learning process causes students to lose interest in physics learning material. The aim of this study is to identify differences in the achievement of physics learning outcomes between students who utilize the physics social gathering card (KARSANFIS) media in the STAD learning context and those who do not utilize the media and to evaluate the significant impact of using the KARSANFIS media in STAD learning on learning outcomes. physics students. This study applied a quasi-experimental method carried out at MA Nurul Istiqlal, Pamekasan Regency, involving 40 students as research samples, consisting of two classes, namely classes X-1 and X-2. Data analysis involves normality tests, homogeneity tests, and t tests. The descriptive results of this study show that the posttest scores in the control group and the experimental group are 67.50 and 78.25. The t test results indicated that the posttest p-value was 0.014 (p-value < α= 0.05), while the anova test results for the difference between posttest and pretest scores had a p-value of 0.001 (p-value < α= 0.05). From these findings it can be concluded that the role of KARSANFIS media in STAD learning provides a significant difference in students' physics learning outcomes compared to those who do not use the media, and the use of KARSANFIS media in STAD learning is able to significantly influence the achievement of student learning outcomes.

Binary Collisions and the Slingshot Effect
We derive the equations for the gravity assist manoeuvre in the general 2D
case without the constraints of circular planetary orbits or widely different
masses as assumed by Broucke, and obtain the slingshot conditions and maximum
energy gain for arbitrary mass ratios of two colliding rigid bodies. Using the
geometric view developed in an earlier paper by the authors the possible
trajectories are computed for both attractive or repulsive interactions
yielding a further insight on the slingshot mechanics and its parametrization.
The general slingshot manoeuvre for arbitrary masses is explained as a
particular case of the possible outcomes of attractive or repulsive binary
collisions, and the correlation between asymptotic information and orbital
parameters is obtained in general.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication Dec'07, Celestial
