Searches for New Physics at HERA
Recent results from searches for new physics at HERA are presented. HERA finished 16 years of successful data taking and both the H1 and ZEUS Collaborations are finalizing analyses based on the full HERA datasets. Possible new
phenomena were probed, like quark substructure, new interactions between electrons and quarks and excited states of fermions. The data are also used to investigate rare final states like multi-lepton events at high transverse momentum and events with isolated leptons and missing transverse momentum. A model-independent search
for deviations from the standard model in a multitude of event topologies is also presented

Energy intake, carbohydrate intake, fiber intake, glycemic load, exercise and blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitusBackgrounds: The worldwide prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is increasing at epidemic proportion. Dietary patterns and sedentary lifestyle are risk factors of type 2 DM.Objective: The study aimed to examine the association between carbohydrate intake, total energy intake, fiber intake, glycemic load, frequency of exercise and duration of exercise with fasting blood glucose levels and with 2h postprandial blood glucose levels. Method: In this observational study with crossectional approach, 46 adults with type 2 DM. The subjects consisted of 17 male and 29 female. This study was performed at Dr. Kariadi Hospital during February-March 2008. Data on food consumption was obtained using semi quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) and recall. Data on exercise was obtained using questionnaire. Data on blood glucose level was obtained from medical records. Data analysis used Pearson Product Moment and multiple regression to test this associations.Results: Most (76.1% and 78.3%) subjects had high fasting blood glucose and 2h pp. In bivariate analysis, significant associations with fasting blood glucose level were observed for carbohydrate intake (r=0.638, p=0.000), total energy intake (r=0.539, p=0.000), fiber intake (r=-0.670, p=0.000), glycemic load (r=0.345, p=0.019), frequency of exercise (r=-0.561, p=0.000), and duration of exercise (r=-0.393, p=0.007). Significant associations with 2h postprandial blood glucose level were also observed for total energy intake (r=0.673, p=0.000), fiber intake (r=-0.638, p=0.000), glycemic load (r=0.775, p=0.000), frequency of exercise (r=-0.482, p=0.001), and duration of exercise (r=-0.393, p=0.007). Fiber intake, frequency of exercise and duration of exercise were negatively associated with fasting blood glucose levels and with 2h postprandial blood glucose levels. Carbohydrate intake, total energy intake, fiber intake, glycemic load, frequency of exercise and duration of exercise influenced 69.7% fasting blood glucose levels and 71.3%2h blood glucose levels.Conclusion: The unsuccessful blood glucose level central are associated with food intake glycemic index of the food and physical activity
Collapses and revivals of exciton emission in a semiconductor microcavity: detuning and phase-space filling effects
We investigate exciton emission of quantum well embedded in a semiconductor
microcavity. The analytical expressions of the light intensity for the cases of
excitonic number state and coherent state are presented by using secular
approximation. Our results show that the effective exciton-exciton interaction
leads to the appearance of collapse and revival of the light intensity. The
revival time is twice compared the coherent state case with that of the number
state. The dissipation of the exciton-polariton lowers the revival amplitude
but does not alter the revival time. The influences of the detuning and the
phase-space filling are studied. We find that the effect of the higher-order
exciton-photon interaction may be removed by adjusting the detuning.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure
Effective-Range Expansion of the Neutron-Deuteron Scattering Studied by a Quark-Model Nonlocal Gaussian Potential
The S-wave effective range parameters of the neutron-deuteron (nd) scattering
are derived in the Faddeev formalism, using a nonlocal Gaussian potential based
on the quark-model baryon-baryon interaction fss2. The spin-doublet low-energy
eigenphase shift is sufficiently attractive to reproduce predictions by the
AV18 plus Urbana three-nucleon force, yielding the observed value of the
doublet scattering length and the correct differential cross sections below the
deuteron breakup threshold. This conclusion is consistent with the previous
result for the triton binding energy, which is nearly reproduced by fss2

Rectification from Radially-Distorted Scales
This paper introduces the first minimal solvers that jointly estimate lens
distortion and affine rectification from repetitions of rigidly transformed
coplanar local features. The proposed solvers incorporate lens distortion into
the camera model and extend accurate rectification to wide-angle images that
contain nearly any type of coplanar repeated content. We demonstrate a
principled approach to generating stable minimal solvers by the Grobner basis
method, which is accomplished by sampling feasible monomial bases to maximize
numerical stability. Synthetic and real-image experiments confirm that the
solvers give accurate rectifications from noisy measurements when used in a
RANSAC-based estimator. The proposed solvers demonstrate superior robustness to
noise compared to the state-of-the-art. The solvers work on scenes without
straight lines and, in general, relax the strong assumptions on scene content
made by the state-of-the-art. Accurate rectifications on imagery that was taken
with narrow focal length to near fish-eye lenses demonstrate the wide
applicability of the proposed method. The method is fully automated, and the

Ab initio study of magnetism at the TiO2/LaAlO3 interface
In this paper we study the possible relation between the electronic and
magnetic structure of the TiO2/LaAlO3 interface and the unexpected magnetism
found in undoped TiO2 films grown on LaAlO. We concentrate on the role
played by structural relaxation and interfacial oxygen vacancies.
LaAlO3 has a layered structure along the (001) direction with alternating LaO
and AlO2 planes, with nominal charges of +1 and -1, respectively. As a
consequence of that, an oxygen deficient TiO2 film with anatase structure will
grow preferently on the AlO2 surface layer. We have therefore performed
ab-initio calculations for superlattices with TiO2/AlO2 interfaces with
interfacial oxygen vacancies. Our main results are that vacancies lead to a
change in the valence state of neighbour Ti atoms but not necessarily to a
magnetic solution and that the appearance of magnetism depends also on
structural details, such as second neighbor positions. These results are
obtained using both the LSDA and LSDA+U approximations.Comment: Accepted for publication in Journal of Materials Scienc
Algorithmic decidability of Engel's property for automaton groups
We consider decidability problems associated with Engel's identity
( for a long enough commutator sequence) in groups
generated by an automaton. We give a partial algorithm that decides, given
, whether an Engel identity is satisfied. It succeeds, importantly, in
proving that Grigorchuk's -group is not Engel. We consider next the problem
of recognizing Engel elements, namely elements such that the map
attracts to . Although this problem seems intractable in
general, we prove that it is decidable for Grigorchuk's group: Engel elements
are precisely those of order at most . Our computations were implemented
using the package FR within the computer algebra system GAP
Determinant representations of scalar products for the open XXZ chain with non-diagonal boundary terms
With the help of the F-basis provided by the Drinfeld twist or factorizing
F-matrix for the open XXZ spin chain with non-diagonal boundary terms, we
obtain the determinant representations of the scalar products of Bethe states
