Primary educational strategies in times of digital curriculum content

Our contribution is based on the most noteworthy results of a research project focusing on teaching strategies at a time when the contents of the primary education curriculum are becoming digital. The expansion of the digital content industry is forcing a paradigm shift. In this paper we analyse the strategies implemented by teachers of the fifth and sixth year of primary school in relation with the digitisation of curricular content. With this aim, we planned our research following ethnographic methodology, analysing a period of two years of a case study. The main data collection tools we used are the analysis of the centre's documents and website, semi-structured interviews with different participants, and direct observation of fifth and sixth year primary education classrooms. We can infer from the analysis that technology facilitates processes of inclusion in the centre, enhancing collaborative and cooperative work. Furthermore, the use of digital devices promotes attention to diversity. The implementation of digital technologies in schools implies redefining teaching practices and teaching-learning processes. The results show that the addition of digital materials is a step forward in the centre's attention to diversity, improving accessibility and overcoming the digital gap thanks to schools' access to technological resource

La representación de la niñez, la feminidad y el feminismo

In this way, television series are creators of narratives that alter the perception of one's own identity and of society. In this article, we analyse the representation of gender in three selected episodes from one of the most popular series on Netflix that promotes a feminist narrative, Sex Education. As a methodological approach to describe and analyse the representations of womanhood and feminism, we use critical discourse analysis (CDA) from a gender perspective. We have found that the female protagonists are represented as being subject to adversity as a result of misogyny that they, at times, also perform alongside their male counterparts. Nonetheless, they act in solidarity with each other when this adversity arises given their shared experiences of misogyny which helps them to come to some sort of resolution that brings them closer together, and in some cases, they have access to resources to give them moments of catharsis or closure. We consider that media literacy is the ideal strategy to develop the capacity for critical analysis of audio-visual content and to introduce the analysis of gender representations in the media.Resumen: Hoy en día los medios de comunicación se han convertido en una de las principales fuentes de educación, complementando el proceso educativo de las escuelas y las familias. De esta forma, las series de televisión son creadoras de narrativas que alteran la percepción de la propia identidad y de la sociedad. En este artículo, analizamos la representación de género en tres episodios de una de las series más populares en Netflix que promueve una narrativa feminista, Sex Education. Como aproximación metodológica para describir y analizar las representaciones de la feminidad y la feminidad, utilizamos el análisis crítico del discurso (ACD) desde una perspectiva de género. Hemos encontrado que mientras que las protagonistas femeninas son representadas como sujetas a la adversidad como resultado de la misoginia y a veces también realizan junto a sus contrapartes masculinas dicha acción. Sin embargo, se observa que se presenta una solidaridad grupal cuando entienden que comparten experiencias de misoginia que los ayuda a llegar a algún tipo de resolución que les une. Consideramos que la alfabetización mediática es la estrategia idónea para desarrollar la capacidad de análisis crítico de los contenidos audiovisuales e introducir el análisis de las representaciones de género en los medios.JUT

Oaxaca, medalla de oro en diversidad de pequeños roedores

Los pequeños roedores juegan un papel fundamental en los ecosistemas que habitan, ya que desempeñan funciones importantes. Para conocer la diversidad de ratones en el estado de Oaxaca, consultamos la base de datos de la Colección Mastozoológica del CIIDIR, IPN, Unidad Oaxaca, y literatura especializada. Se analizó la riqueza taxonómica, distribución geográfica y altitudinal, endemismo y estado de conservación para cada especie. Registramos 54 especies de ratones, de los cuales 49 son cricétidos (ratones silvestres) y cinco heterómidos (ratones con abazones o bolsas). La mayor riqueza de especies se registró en la Sierra Madre de Oaxaca (Sierra Mazateca, Sierra Juárez y Sierra Mixe; 44 especies), y en el piso altitudinal 2,000-2,500 m (47 especies). Nueve especies se distribuyen únicamente en el estado (endémicos a Oaxaca), 12 están bajo algún criterio de amenaza de acuerdo a las leyes mexicanas (NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010) o a la lista roja de la Unión Internacional para la conservación de la Naturaleza. Oaxaca resulta ser el estado mexicano más diverso en ratones silvestres, por tal razón es esencial conocer y divulgar su diversidad y el papel que estos organismos juegan en la naturaleza, esto ayudará a inhibir mitos y malas creencias de este importante grupo de mamíferos

Nuevas ecologías del aprendizaje en el currículo: la era digital en la escuela

La expansión y crecimiento de los ambientes de aprendizaje como resultado de la integración de las TIC han facilitado el surgimiento de distintas formas de interrelación educativa, provocando un interés en el estudio de las ecologías del aprendizaje y de los ecosistemas educativos digitales. Cada vez es más necesario un cambio profundo en el proceso enseñanza-aprendizaje ya que el alumnado actualmente dentro del aula demandaun tipo de aprendizaje activo, vivencial y digital. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar losnuevos modelos o paradigmas del aprendizaje basados en los intereses de las nuevas generaciones que aprenden en un contexto rodeado de las TIC. La metodología empleadafue cualitativa. Se realizó una revisión sistemática de la literatura científica con base en la adaptación de la metodología PRISMA. Los resultados nos muestran que la revolucióntecnológica ha cambiado nuestra forma de hacer, de pensar y también de enseñar y aprender. Las TIC cobran una relevancia especial en todo este proceso. Con la entrada de la tecnología en las aulas nos situamos frente a nuevas ecologías del aprendizaje por lo que el modelo de escuela y de currículo actual evoluciona para dar respuesta a las necesidades de la socieda

CFD Modelling of Coupled Multiphysics-Multiscale Engineering Cases

Many of the engineering problems have multiphysics and multiscale nature. Non-isothermal flows, stirred reactors, turbulent mixing and membrane filtration, are prevalent cases in which the coupling of several physics phenomena is required for the adequate prediction of overall behaviors. Also, a multiscale analysis, where the same phenomenon is analyzed at different scales, can lead to better understanding of the phenomena, which can be used in optimization and to provide adequate scale-up methodologies. Studies incorporating both multiscale and multiphysics analysis are rarely addressed in literature; in fact, these kinds of problems will be the research challenge in the next years. Computer fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques have shown to be promising to deal with these kinds of systems. In this chapter, these are used to implement a multiscale analysis of the hydrodesulphurization (HDS) process for light gas-oil (LGO). The aforementioned is carried out by the analysis of mass an energy transport at: (1) microporous (MP) scale, (2) pseudo-homogeneous catalyst (PHC) scale, and by analysis of (3) momentum and mass transport at reactor scale (RS). In addition, a particular discussion is made regarding the proper establishment of the model, its validation, the use of different boundary conditions, its justification; and the dependence of solutions of parameters and initial and boundary conditions

Revalorization of Coffee Waste

One of the household methods most used to prepare the coffee beverage is the coffee dripping method, which generates millions of tons of coffee waste (CW). Its disposition without control causes environmental matters due to the high consumption of oxygen during its discomposing process. However, the high availability, low cost, and chemical composition of CW (cellulose, hemicelluloses, lignin, ashes, protein, aliphatic acids, fats, and water) make them useful material for obtaining added-value products and bioenergy. In this chapter, the state of the art of different sustainable alternatives to revalorize CW is shown. CW has been successfully applied as an adsorbent for removing pollutants from wastewater and gas, a precursor for obtaining activated carbon, and a feedstock for producing energy and valuable products using mono-process extraction and biorefinery

Creativity in Citizen Cyberscience

An interview study was conducted to explore volunteers’ experiences of creativity in citizen cyberscience. Participants were recruited from 4 projects: GeoTag-X, Virtual Atom Smasher, Synthetic Biology, and Extreme Citizen Science. Ninety-six interviews were conducted in total: 86 with volunteers (citizen scientists) and 10 with professional scientists. The resulting thematic analysis revealed that volunteers are involved in a range of creative activities, such as discussing ideas, suggesting improvements, gamification, artwork, creative writing, and outreach activities. We conclude that the majority of creative products are community-related. Creativity in citizen cyberscience is a collective process: volunteers create within a project and a community, both for themselves and for others

CFD Analysis of BED Textural Characteristics on TBR Behavior: Hydrodynamics and Scaling-up

In recent years, CFD has played an important role in the understanding and design of TBR’s. In this work, through CFD with Eulerian approach, a three-phase heterogeneous reactor model was developed, were the accuracy of Interfacial Momentum Exchange Model (IMEM) for the gas-solid interaction, the effect of a more detailed catalytic bed geometry description, and the pellet shape over TBR hydrodynamics of two fluid phases interacting with the solid phase was studied. Then, a second model was developed, where the validated hy- drodynamic model was coupled with mass transport for an HDS process of light gasoil. Additionally, in order to insight into the scaling up process of a TBRs, the proposed columns behaviors were compared against lit- erature columns using four different ways, and it was found that the best predictions were obtained when the models’ holdup were equaled to those evaluated in literature columns. Since in reliable literature deviations in pressure drop predictions of around 30% can be found, the model results show significant improvement against literature, achieving 5 times better accuracy in predicting pressure drops, and 50% improvement in holdup prediction; the coupled model reproduces the same conversion values compared with literature data, and predicts conversions with 95% accurac
