    In-vitro induction of aerial leaves and of precocious flowering in submerged shoots of Limnophila indica by abscisic acid

    Nodal explants of submerged shoots of Limnophila indica (L.) Druce were cultured in Nitsch's liquid medium containing abscisic acid (ABA, 10-9-10-6 M). At 10-7 and 10-6 M, ABA induced typical aerial leaves (entire, ovate, opposite-decussately arranged) even under submerged conditions and completely suppressed the development of water leaves (pinnately dissected and whorled). Flowers that invariably arise from aerial shoots were induced precociously by ABA even on submerged nodes

    This study identifies Building Information Modeling (BIM) benefits in the presentations of previous project participants and specialties. Based on recent data, a framework for evaluating the project-level BIM benefits from the perspectives of different stakeholders involved in the project is proposed. In order to maximize the benefits for each user or stakeholder, the functions and methods for implementing BIM on construction projects are explained. The results show that the advantages of implementing BIM in construction projects can be effectively evaluated by the proposed framework. Results presented herein provide documentation to improve the understanding of BIM benefits to all construction industry stakeholders

    Properties of MnO on high Al2O3 slag and its mechanism used for flushing blast furnace (BF)

    Flushing blast furnace by manganese ore was one of the important methods to recover the hearth inactivity caused by hearth accumulation. In this work, the properties and mechanism of the slag with different MnO content were researched, including the viscosity and critical temperature measured by rotating cylinder method, the mineral phase and microstructure confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) and fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR). The experiment results showed that during the process of flushing blast furnace, the appropriate and optimal MnO in the slag was 1,5 to 2,0 mas .%, the mechanism of flushing by MnO was that the tephroite whose melting point is low forms, the depolymerization of [SiO4]-tetrahedral structure caused by MnO addition also plays an important role in reducing the viscosity of the slag

    A dynamics-driven approach to precision machines design for micro-manufacturing and its implementation perspectives

    Precision machines are essential elements in fabricating high quality micro products or micro features and directly affect the machining accuracy, repeatability and efficiency. There are a number of literatures on the design of industrial machine elements and a couple of precision machines commercially available. However, few researchers have systematically addressed the design of precision machines from the dynamics point of view. In this paper, the design issues of precision machines are presented with particular emphasis on the dynamics aspects as the major factors affecting the performance of the precision machines and machining processes. This paper begins with a brief review of the design principles of precision machines with emphasis on machining dynamics. Then design processes of precision machines are discussed, and followed by a practical modelling and simulation approaches. Two case studies are provided including the design and analysis of a fast tool servo system and a 5-axis bench-top micro-milling machine respectively. The design and analysis used in the two case studies are formulated based on the design methodology and guidelines

    Study of Mechanical and Chemical Properties of Biodegradable Fibers before and after Alkali Treatment

    The Tensile, Flexural properties, Chemical resistance and Scanning Electron Microscope analysis of bamboo, jute and grass fibers reinforced polyester composites were studied. The effect of alkali treatment of the bamboo, jute and grass fibers on these properties was also studied. It was observed that flexural properties of the hybrid composite increase with bamboo fiber content. These properties found to be higher when alkali treated bamboo fibers were used in the hybrid composites. The elimination of amorphous hemi-cellulose with alkali treated leading to higher crystallinity of the bamboo fibers with alkali treatment may be responsible for these observations. The author investigated the interfacial bonding between Glass/Bamboo reinforced epoxy composites. The effect of alkali treatment on the bonding between Glass/Bamboo composites was also studied. The chemical resistance of Bamboo, jute and grass reinforced polyester composites to acetic acid, Nitric acid, Hydrochloric acid, Sodium hydroxide, Sodium carbonate, Benzene, Toluene, carbon tetrachloride and water was studied.     Specificity of gibberellin and sucrose-promoted flower bud growth in gladiolus

    A critical stage in flower bud growth in the spike of Gladiolus which is initiated by gibberellic acid (GA3) and sustained by sucrose has been identified. This corresponds to the stage at which separation of the outer bract occurs. In buds at different developmental stages isolated and held in water, it is the same bud stage that first shows increased growth. Buds not induced by light were shown to respond more significantly to GA3 and sucrose than those induced by light. Since the separation of the outer bract results in light-induced amylase production and starch hydrolysis leading to petal growth, it is proposed that growth promotion by GA3 is related to light-induced petal growth at this specific stage

    Critical exponents and the correlation length in the charge exchange manganite spin glass Eu_{0.5}Ba_{0.5}MnO_{3}

    The critical regime of the charge exchange (CE) manganite spin glass Eu_{0.5}Ba_{0.5}MnO_{3} is investigated using linear and non linear magnetic susceptibility and the divergence of the third ordered susceptibility (chi{_3}) signifying the onset of a conventional freezing transition is experimentally demonstrated. The divergence in chi{_3}, dynamical scaling of the linear susceptibility and relevant scaling equations are used to determine the critical exponents associated with this freezing transition, the values of which match well with the 3D Ising universality class. Magnetic field dependence of the spin glass response function is used to estimate the spin correlation length which is seen to be larger than the charge/orbital correlation length reported in this system.Comment: 4 pages, 4 Figure
