The Role of Adenovirus Serotype 5 E4 11k in the Relocalization of the Cellular P Body Proteins
Human adenoviruses are a useful tool to understand basic cellular biology in addition to viral infections. Historically, cellular splicing was first discovered in adenovirus, but other cellular processes, such as double-strand break repair and aggresome formation, have been further elucidated through adenoviral infection. The adenovirus protein E4 11k has been shown to disrupt cytoplasmic processing bodies (p bodies), which are not well-understood but are involved in mRNA metabolism. Several p body proteins were found to be reorganized in the cytoplasm with adenovirus serotype 5 (Ad5) able to cause the colocalization of these p body proteins with aggresomes. The p body protein Lsm1 has been found to colocalize with E4 11k in aggresomes, but Edc3 and Pat1b are two p body proteins that have not been as well-studied in adenovirus-infected cells. Cells were treated with cadmium chloride or infected with wild-type and mutant viruses before staining them to visualize the p body proteins and a marker for viral infection by confocal microscopy. We were able to determine that the presence of E4 11k was not necessary for relocalization of either Lsm1 or Edc3 to aggresomes, while Pat1b did not localize to aggresomes under any conditions tested. We wanted to characterize Pat1b relocalization further so we counted the number of Pat1b foci in mock-infected cells and then the virally-infected cells, and were able to determine that Ad5 E4 11k is necessary and sufficient to induce an increase in cytoplasmic Pat1b foci. We also determined that this increase in Pat1b foci appears to be serotype-specific when compared to Ad9 and Ad12 E4 11k protein. The lack of apparent change with Pat1b localization with Ad9 E4 11k expression was a novel finding that suggests there may be something unique about Pat1b and p body localization
Combating Nursing Burnout: A Quality Improvement Project
Nursing burnout costs the health care industry roughly 14 billion dollars a year. The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically increased burnout rates. Many nurses feel overworked and underappreciated; this has caused a negative impact as it is influencing the rates of burnout among hospital staffing globally. Over half a million registered nurses have already left their profession nationwide due to stress and workload (Bruyneel, Smith, Tack, & Pirson, 2021). Burnout has diminished staff, depleted resources, and decreased quality of care.https://scholarworks.moreheadstate.edu/celebration_posters_2022/1044/thumbnail.jp
Osteopathology and insect traces in the Australopithecus africanus skeleton StW 431
We present the first application of high-resolution micro computed tomography in an analysis of both the internal and external morphology of the lumbar region of StW 431 ā a hominin skeleton recovered from Member 4 infill of the Sterkfontein Caves (South Africa) in 1987. The lumbar vertebrae of the individual present a number of proliferative and erosive bony processes, which were investigated in this study. Investigations suggest a complex history of taphonomic alteration to pre-existing spinal degenerative joint disease (SDJD) as well as post-mortem modification by an unknown insect. This study is in agreement
with previous pathological diagnoses of SDJD which affected StW 431 and is the first time insect traces on this hominin are described. The results of this analysis attest to the complex series of post-mortem processes affecting the Sterkfontein site and its fossil assemblages
Analyzing Media Coverage of Agricultural Health and Safety Issues
Farming, by the very nature of the occupation, is riddled with uncertainty. The risks associated with the agriculture industry are just as diverse as the industry itself. For all risks, one challenge is the development and dissemination of safety communication materials tailored for diverse audiences. Valkenburg, Semetko, and Vreese (1999) examined common frames used in news media. Their analysis pointed to four commonly used news frames: conflict, human interest, responsibility and economic consequences. The purpose of this study was to describe the agricultural and health safety issues discussed in Florida news media during the year 2016, discussing the prominence of the frames outlined by Valkenburg et al. (1999). In this study, the most prominent frame was the human interest frame, followed by responsibility, economic consequences, and conflict. Frames carry a great deal of weight in shaping individualsā opinions, attitudes, and actions towards agriculturally based messages; therefore it is essential for agricultural communicators to understand the framing of agricultural health and safety issues. Acknowledging the frames used in the reporting of agricultural issues allows agricultural communicators to enter into informed interactions with media outlets and better prepare the resources they provide to them. These framing analyses also provide agricultural communicators with a solid foundation on which to best position and frame their messaging on behalf of the industry. Further research is recommended to examine frames from an audience perspective and to investigate the impact of human interest frames in the presentation of agricultural news articles

Photoacoustic imaging of squirrel monkey cortical and subcortical brain regions during peripheral electrical stimulation
The investigation of neuronal activity in non-human primate models is of critical importance due to their genetic similarity to human brains. In this study, we tested the feasibility of using photoacoustic imaging for the detection of cortical and subcortical responses due to peripheral electrical stimulation in a squirrel monkey model. Photoacoustic computed tomography and photoacoustic microscopy were applied on squirrel monkeys for real-time deep subcortical imaging and optical-resolution cortical imaging, respectively. The electrically evoked hemodynamic changes in primary somatosensory cortex, premotor cortices, primary motor cortex, and underlying subcortical areas were measured. Hemodynamic responses were observed in both cortical and subcortical brain areas at the cortices during external stimulation, demonstrating the feasibility of photoacoustic technique for functional imaging of non-human primate brain
Caregiver Stigma and Burden in Memory Disorders: An Evaluation of the Effects of Caregiver Type and Gender
Despite considerable gains in public awareness of dementia, dementia patients and their caregivers continue to be stigmatized. Previous work has explored stigma and burden among adult children of persons with dementia in Israel, but no similar data exist for spousal caregivers or caregivers in general in the United States. This study examines the differences in stigma and burden experienced by spousal and adult child caregivers and male and female caregivers of persons with dementia. Eighty-two caregivers were given the Zarit Burden Inventory Short Form (ZBI) and the Caregiver Section of the Family Stigma in Alzheimerās Disease Scale (FS-ADS-C). Scores on the FS-ADS-C and ZBI were positively correlated (rs=.51, p<.001). Female caregivers reported experiencing more stigma on the FS-ADS-C (t(80) = ā4.37, p<.001) and more burden on the ZBI (t(80) = ā2.68, p=.009) compared to male caregivers, and adult child caregivers reported experiencing more stigma on the FS-ADS-C (t(30.8) = ā2.22, p=.034) and more burden on the ZBI (t(80) = ā2.65, p=.010) than spousal caregivers. These results reinforce the importance of support for caregivers, particularly adult child and female caregivers who may experience higher levels of stigma and burden
Accessing ratios of quantized resistances in graphene pān junction devices using multiple terminals
The utilization of multiple current terminals on millimeter-scale graphene pān junction devices has enabled the measurement of many atypical, fractional multiples of the quantized Hall resistance at the Ī½ = 2 plateau (RH ā 12 906 Ī©). These fractions take the form abRH and can be determined both analytically and by simulations. These experiments validate the use of either the LTspice circuit simulator or the analytical framework recently presented in similar work. Furthermore, the production of several devices with large-scale junctions substantiates the approach of using simple ultraviolet lithography to obtain junctions of sufficient sharpness. The utilization of multiple current terminals on millimeter-scale graphene pān junction devices has enabled the measurement of many atypical, fractional multiples of the quantized Hall resistance at the Ī½ = 2 plateau (RH ā 12 906 Ī©).
