Day-Night and Energy Dependence of MSW Solar Neutrinos for Maximal Mixing
It has been stated in the literature that the case of maximal mixing angle
for \nu_e leads to no day-night effect for solar neutrinos and an energy
independent flux suppression of 1/2. While the case of maximal mixing angle and
\Delta m^2 in the MSW range does lead to suppression of the electron neutrinos
reaching the earth from the sun by P_S=1/2, the situation is different for
neutrinos that have passed through the earth. We make the pedagogical point
that, just as with smaller mixing angles, the earth regenerates the |\nu_1>
state from the predominantly |\nu_2 > state reaching the earth, leading to
coherent interference effects. This regeneration can lead to a day-night effect
and an energy dependence of the suppression of solar electron neutrinos, even
for the case of maximal mixing. For large mixing angles, the energy dependence
of the day-night asymmetry depends heavily on Delta m^2. With a sufficiently
sensitive measurement of the day-night effect, this energy dependence could be
used to distinguish among the large mixing angle solutions of the solar
neutrino problem.Comment: JHEP style, 22 pages, 7 figures. References added, and minor

Bulk Gauge Fields in the Randall-Sundrum Model
We explore the consequences of placing the Standard Model gauge fields in the
bulk of the recently proposed localized gravity model of Randall and Sundrum.
We find that the Kaluza Klein excitations of these fields are necessarily
strongly coupled and we demonstrate that current precision electroweak data
constrain the lowest states to lie above TeV. Taking the weak scale
to be TeV, the resulting implications on the model parameters force
the bulk curvature, , to be larger than the higher dimensional Planck
scale, , violating the consistency of the theory. In turn, to preserve
|R_5|\lsim M^2, the weak scale must be pushed to \gsim 100 TeV. Hence we
conclude that it is disfavored to place the Standard Model gauge fields in the
bulk of this model as it is presently formulated.Comment: Improved results, 14 pages, Latex fil
LTE Spectrum Sharing Research Testbed: Integrated Hardware, Software, Network and Data
This paper presents Virginia Tech's wireless testbed supporting research on
long-term evolution (LTE) signaling and radio frequency (RF) spectrum
coexistence. LTE is continuously refined and new features released. As the
communications contexts for LTE expand, new research problems arise and include
operation in harsh RF signaling environments and coexistence with other radios.
Our testbed provides an integrated research tool for investigating these and
other research problems; it allows analyzing the severity of the problem,
designing and rapidly prototyping solutions, and assessing them with
standard-compliant equipment and test procedures. The modular testbed
integrates general-purpose software-defined radio hardware, LTE-specific test
equipment, RF components, free open-source and commercial LTE software, a
configurable RF network and recorded radar waveform samples. It supports RF
channel emulated and over-the-air radiated modes. The testbed can be remotely
accessed and configured. An RF switching network allows for designing many
different experiments that can involve a variety of real and virtual radios
with support for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna operation. We
present the testbed, the research it has enabled and some valuable lessons that
we learned and that may help designing, developing, and operating future
wireless testbeds.Comment: In Proceeding of the 10th ACM International Workshop on Wireless
