Activity Driven Weakly Supervised Object Detection
Weakly supervised object detection aims at reducing the amount of supervision
required to train detection models. Such models are traditionally learned from
images/videos labelled only with the object class and not the object bounding
box. In our work, we try to leverage not only the object class labels but also
the action labels associated with the data. We show that the action depicted in
the image/video can provide strong cues about the location of the associated
object. We learn a spatial prior for the object dependent on the action (e.g.
"ball" is closer to "leg of the person" in "kicking ball"), and incorporate
this prior to simultaneously train a joint object detection and action
classification model. We conducted experiments on both video datasets and image
datasets to evaluate the performance of our weakly supervised object detection
model. Our approach outperformed the current state-of-the-art (SOTA) method by

IMPACT OF CALORIC VESTIBULAR STIMULATION ON CO-ORDINATION IN PARKINSON DISEASE INDUCED MICE
Objective: This study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of vestibular stimulation on motor coordination in Parkinson’s disease (PD) induced mice.
Methods: 18 healthy adult male Swiss albino mice were used in this study. Vestibule was stimulated by caloric vestibular stimulation (CVS). Pesticide Rotenone was used to induce Parkinson’s disease (PD). Motor coordination was assessed by the fall-off time and the activity score using the rotarod and actophotometer, respectively.
Results: In the rotarod test, there was a significant increase in the fall-off time (p<0.01) in the CVS PD group (131.63±18.34) on the 30th day when compared to the PD group (95.33±15.17). In the actophotometer, the activity score improved in the PD CVS group on the 15 (235±47.09) and 30th days (251.38±25.76), while there was no improvement in the PD group. This shows the significant effect of caloric vestibular stimulation on motor coordination in Parkinson’s disease.
Conclusion: This study confirms that caloric vestibular stimulation with hot water resulted in the improvement of motor coordination in PD. Hence this study certainly merits further studies with a higher sample size to confirm the effect of caloric vestibular stimulation on the enhancement of motor coordination in individuals with Parkinson’s disease
Characterisation of Materials used in Flex Bearings of Large Solid Rocket Motors
Solid rocket motors are propulsion devices for both satellite launchers and missiles, which require guidance and steering to fly along a programmed trajectory and to compensate for flight disturbances. A typical solid rocket motor consists of motor case, solid propellant grain, motor insulation, igniter and nozzle. In most solid rocket motors, thrust vector control (TVC) is required. One of the most efficient methods of TVC is by flex nozzle system. The flex nozzle consists of a flexible bearing made of an elastomeric material alternating with reinforcement rings of metallic or composite material. The material characterisation of AFNOR 15CDV6 steel and the natural rubber-based elastomer developed for use in flex nozzle are discussed. Case report of total hip replacement in an amputatee
Total hip replacement (THR) in an ipsilateral neck of femur fracture is an unusual situation. Hip fractures are a common source of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Nevertheless, the discovery and development of hip arthroplasty has improved its prognosis, with a high survival rate and satisfactory functional results. Although total hip replacement has been well described in the literature especially for healthy individuals, we found only few pieces of information about the technical characteristics and results of this procedure in patients with lower extremity amputation. There were few previous case reports in the literature that describe total hip replacement (THR) in above-knee amputees and this was the first case to be done in our institute. We presented a case involving an above knee amputee (AKA) who sustained an ipsilateral neck of femur fracture. Our patient underwent a THR with a satisfactory post-operative outcome. Dynamic Shortest Path Algorithms for Hypergraphs
A hypergraph is a set V of vertices and a set of non-empty subsets of V,
called hyperedges. Unlike graphs, hypergraphs can capture higher-order
interactions in social and communication networks that go beyond a simple union
of pairwise relationships. In this paper, we consider the shortest path problem
in hypergraphs. We develop two algorithms for finding and maintaining the
shortest hyperpaths in a dynamic network with both weight and topological
changes. These two algorithms are the first to address the fully dynamic
shortest path problem in a general hypergraph. They complement each other by
partitioning the application space based on the nature of the change dynamics
and the type of the hypergraph
