Effect of local treatments of convection upon the solar p-mode excitation rates
We compute, for several solar models, the rates P at which the solar radial p
modes are expected to be excited. The solar models are computed with two
different local treatments of convection : the classical mixing-length theory
(MLT hereafter) and Canuto, Goldmann and Mazzitelli(1996, CGM hereafter)'s
formulation. For one set of solar models (EMLT and ECGM models), the atmosphere
is gray and assumes Eddington's approximation. For a second set of models (KMLT
and KCGM models), the atmosphere is built using a T(tau) law which has been
obtained from a Kurucz's model atmosphere computed with the same local
treatment of convection. The mixing-length parameter in the model atmosphere is
chosen so as to provide a good agreement between synthetic and observed Balmer
line profiles, while the mixing-length parameter in the interior model is
calibrated so that the model reproduces the solar radius at solar age. For the
MLT treatment, the rates P do depend significantly on the properties of the
atmosphere. On the other hand, for the CGM treatment, differences in P between
the ECGM and the KCGM models are very small compared to the error bars attached
to the seismic measurements. The excitation rates P for modes from the EMLT
model are significantly under-estimated compared with the solar seismic
constraints. The KMLT model results in intermediate values for P and shows also
an important discontinuity in the temperature gradient and the convective
velocity. On the other hand, the KCGM model and the ECGM model yield values for
P closer to the seismic data than the EMLT and KMLT models. We conclude that
the solar p-mode excitation rates provide valuable constraints and according to
the present investigation cleary favor the CGM treatment with respect to the

radial p modes for several solar models. The solar models are computed with two
different local treatments of convection: the classical mixing-length theory
(MLT hereafter) and Canuto et al (1996)'s formulation (CGM hereafter). Among
the models investigated here, our best models reproduce both the solar radius
and the solar luminosity at solar age and the observed Balmer line profiles.
For the MLT treatment, the rates P do depend significantly on the properties of
the atmosphere whereas for the CGM's treatment the dependence of P on the
properties of the atmosphere is found smaller than the error bars attached to
the seismic measurements. The excitation rates P for modes associated with the
MLT models are significantly underestimated compared with the solar seismic
constraints. The CGM models yield values for P closer to the seismic data than
the MLT models. We conclude that the solar p-mode excitation rates provide
valuable constraints and according to the present investigation clearly favor
the CGM treatment with respect to the MLT, although neither of them yields
values of P as close to the observations as recently found for 3D numerical

Monodromy conjecture for log generic polynomials
A log generic hypersurface in P
n with respect to a birational modification of
P
n
is by definition the image of a generic element of a high power of an ample linear series
on the modification. A log very-generic hypersurface is defined similarly but restricting
to line bundles satisfying a non-resonance condition. Fixing a log resolution of a product
f = f1 . . . fp of polynomials, we show that the monodromy conjecture, relating the motivic
zeta function with the complex monodromy, holds for the tuple (f1, . . . , fp, g) and for the
product fg, if g is log generic. We also show that the stronger version of the monodromy
conjecture, relating the motivic zeta function with the Bernstein-Sato ideal, holds for the
tuple (f1, . . . , fp, g) and for the product fg, if g is log very-generic. Even the case f = 1 is
intricate, the proof depending on nontrivial properties of Bernstein-Sato ideals, and it singles
out the class of log (very-) generic hypersurfaces as an interesting class of singularities on
its own
Exploration of the BaSeL stellar library for 9 F-type stars COROT potential targets
The Basel Stellar Library (BaSeL models) is constituted of the merging of
various synthetic stellar spectra libraries, with the purpose of giving the
most comprehensive coverage of stellar parameters. It has been corrected for
systematic deviations detected in respect to UBVRIJHKLM photometry at solar
metallicity, and can then be considered as the state-of-the-art knowledge of
the broad band content of stellar spectra. In this paper, we consider a sample
of 9 F-type stars with detailed spectroscopic analysis to investigate the Basel
Stellar Library in two photometric systems simultaneously, Johnson (B-V, U-B)
and Stromgren (b-y, m_1, and c_1). The sample corresponds to potential targets
of the central seismology programme of the COROT space experiment, which have
been recently observed at OHP. The atmospheric parameters T_eff, [Fe/H], and
log g obtained from the BaSeL models are compared with spectroscopic
determinations as well as with results of other photometric calibrations. For a
careful interpretation of the BaSeL solutions, we computed confidence regions
around the best ^2-estimates and projected them on T_eff-[Fe/H],

(Anti-)BRST Symmetries in FLRW Model: Supervariable Approach
We derive the off-shell nilpotent and absolutely anticommuting (anti-)BRST
symmetry transformations corresponding to the local time-reparametrization
symmetry transformation of the -dimensional (1D) diffeomorphism (i.e.
time-reparameterization) invariant FRLW model within the framework of
supervariable approach BRST formalism. An application of (super-)diffeomorphism
invariance yields horizontality conditions. The celebrated CF-type of condition
which emerges as an off-shoot of the horizontality condition provides the
absolute anticommutativity of the (anti-)BRST transformations. In addition,
this CF-type condition is required for the derivation of coupled (but
equivalent) Lagrangians. We also capture the (anti-)BRST invariance of the
Lagrangians in terms of the Grassmannian translational generators and

Decentralisatie: maatwerk of uniformiteit? Het Wmo-beleid van Nederlandse gemeenten
A main motive for policy decentralization is the belief that municipalities are better able to customize public policy to local circumstances, and to realize made-to-measure service provision. In this respect, the introduction of the Social Support Act (Wmo) is an interesting example. With the lack of âverticalâ accountability obligations to the national government, the Wmo is governmentally innovative. Whether the decentralization results in customized forms of social support is a fascinating one because a detailed reading of the Wmo and its implementation displays possible incentives as well as barriers to made-to-measure service provision. The empirical exploration in this article uses data from the 2007-2009 evaluation of the Wmo conducted by the Netherlands Institute for Social Research (SCP). The evaluation shows that municipalities involve diverse stakeholders in formulating Wmo policy, and that their involvement seems to lead to customized service provision. At the same time, municipalities follow nationwide models, and information provided by the central government seems to have a major impact on local social care policy. The article concludes with an outlook on future directions in local debates on social care and the recommendation to give time for major decentralization trajectories such as the Wmo
Binary coalescence from case A evolution -- mergers and blue stragglers
We constructed some main-sequence mergers from case A binary evolution and
studied their characteristics via Eggleton's stellar evolution code. Both total
mass and orbital angular momentum are conservative in our binary evolutions.
Some mergers might be on the left of the ZAMS as defined by normal surface
composition on a CMD because of enhanced surface helium content. The study also
shows that central hydrogen content of the mergers is independent of mass. As a
consequence, we fit the formula of magnitude and B-V of the mergers when they
return back to thermal equilibrium with maximum error 0.29 and 0.037,
respectively. Employing the consequences above, we performed Monte Carlo
simulations to examine our models in NGC 2682 and NGC 2660. In NGC 2682, binary
mergers from our models cover the region with high luminosity, but its
importance is much less than that of AML. Our results are well-matched to the
observations of NGC2660 if there is about 0.5Mo of mass loss in the merger

The effect of three years of TNF alpha blocking therapy on markers of bone turnover and their predictive value for treatment discontinuation in patients with ankylosing spondylitis: a prospective longitudinal observational cohort study
INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of three years of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) blocking therapy on bone turnover as well as to analyze the predictive value of early changes in bone turnover markers (BTM) for treatment discontinuation in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS). METHODS: This is a prospective cohort study of 111 consecutive AS outpatients who started TNF-alpha blocking therapy. Clinical assessments and BTM were assessed at baseline, three and six months, as well as at one, two, and three years. Z-scores of BTM were calculated to correct for age and gender. Bone mineral density (BMD) was assessed yearly. RESULTS: After three years, 72 patients (65%) were still using their first TNF-alpha blocking agent. In these patients, TNF-alpha blocking therapy resulted in significantly increased bone-specific alkaline phosphatase, a marker of bone formation; decreased serum collagen-telopeptide (sCTX), a marker of bone resorption; and increased lumbar spine and hip BMD compared to baseline. Baseline to three months decrease in sCTX Z-score (HR: 0.394, 95% CI: 0.263 to 0.591), AS disease activity score (ASDAS; HR: 0.488, 95% CI: 0.317 to 0.752), and physician's global disease activity (HR: 0.739, 95% CI: 0.600 to 0.909) were independent inversely related predictors of time to treatment discontinuation because of inefficacy or intolerance. Early decrease in sCTX Z-score correlated significantly with good long-term response regarding disease activity, physical function and quality of life. CONCLUSIONS: Three years of TNF-alpha blocking therapy results in a bone turnover balance that favors bone formation, especially mineralization, in combination with continuous improvement of lumbar spine BMD. Early change in sCTX can serve as an objective measure in the evaluation of TNF-alpha blocking therapy in AS, in addition to the currently used more subjective measures
