The differentiation model of the structures which secrete pharmacologically active substances appears a particularly interesting field of study, since it can be related to the type and way of secretion. Four different types of hair of Salvia officinalis L. were examined in this light concerning their nuclear structure and the quantity of DNA, both of which are very important parameters in differentiation. Results indicated quite intense metabolic activity in all types of hair with fairly high levels of endopolyploidy, the probable presence of polyteny, and probable differential DNA replication. The peltate glandular hairs proved to be the most active ones. In the long-stalked capitate hairs, the distal cell of the pedicel also appeared to have a particularly active metabolism, suggesting that it is in some way involved in the secretory process

A Stochastic Volatility Model With Realized Measures for Option Pricing
Based on the fact that realized measures of volatility are affected by measurement errors, we introduce a new family of discrete-time stochastic volatility models having two measurement equations relating both observed returns and realized measures to the latent conditional variance. A semi-analytical option pricing framework is developed for this class of models. In addition, we provide analytical filtering and smoothing recursions for the basic specification of the model, and an effective MCMC algorithm for its richer variants. The empirical analysis shows the effectiveness of filtering and smoothing realized measures in inflating the latent volatility persistenceâthe crucial parameter in pricing Standard and Poorâs 500 Index options
PTF 10bzf (SN 2010ah): A Broad-Line Ic Supernova Discovered by the Palomar Transient Factory
We present the discovery and follow-up observations of a broad-line Type Ic supernova (SN), PTF 10bzf (SN 2010ah), detected by the Palomar Transient Factory (PTF) on 2010 February 23. The SN distance is â
218 Mpc, greater than GRB 980425/SN 1998bw and GRB 060218/SN 2006aj, but smaller than the other SNe firmly associated with gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). We conducted a multi-wavelength follow-up campaign with Palomar 48 inch, Palomar 60 inch, Gemini-N, Keck, Wise, Swift, the Allen Telescope Array, Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy, Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope, and Expanded Very Large Array. Here we compare the properties of PTF 10bzf with those of SN 1998bw and other broad-line SNe. The optical luminosity and spectral properties of PTF 10bzf suggest that this SN is intermediate, in kinetic energy and amount of ^(56)Ni, between non-GRB-associated SNe like 2002ap or 1997ef, and GRB-associated SNe like 1998bw. No X-ray or radio counterpart to PTF 10bzf was detected. X-ray upper limits allow us to exclude the presence of an underlying X-ray afterglow as luminous as that of other SN-associated GRBs such as GRB 030329 or GRB 031203. Early-time radio upper limits do not show evidence for mildly relativistic ejecta. Late-time radio upper limits rule out the presence of an underlying off-axis GRB, with energy and wind density similar to the SN-associated GRB 030329 and GRB 031203. Finally, by performing a search for a GRB in the time window and at the position of PTF 10bzf, we find that no GRB in the interplanetary network catalog could be associated with this SN

conclusions are: 1. in the (V_to, V_cl,m) and (V-to, (V_to-V_cl,m)) planes the
models yield a good overall description of the data; 2. with the current
sample, it is impossible to firmly choose between "classical" and
"overshooting" models; 3. the separation in colour between the MS band and the
Red He-burning Clump is smaller than predicted by theoretical tracks; 4. the
existence of the so-called "RGB phase-transition (Renzini and Buzzoni 1986)

Threshold bipower variation and the impact of jumps on volatility forecasting
This study reconsiders the role of jumps for volatility forecasting by showing that jumps have a positive and mostly significant impact on future volatility. This result becomes apparent once volatility is separated into its continuous and discontinuous components using estimators which are not only consistent, but also scarcely plagued by small sample bias. With the aim of achieving this, we introduce the concept of threshold bipower variation, which is based on the joint use of bipower variation and threshold estimation. We show that its generalization (threshold multipower variation) admits a feasible central limit theorem in the presence of jumps and provides less biased estimates, with respect to the standard multipower variation, of the continuous quadratic variation in finite samples. We further provide a new test for jump detection which has substantially more power than tests based on multipower variation. Empirical analysis (on the S&P500 index, individual stocks and US bond yields) shows that the proposed techniques improve significantly the accuracy of volatility forecasts especially in periods following the occurrence of a jump
GRB 970228 Within the EMBH Model
We consider the gamma-ray burst of 1997 February 28 (GRB 970228) within the
ElectroMagnetic Black Hole (EMBH) model. We first determine the value of the
two free parameters that characterize energetically the GRB phenomenon in the
EMBH model, that is to say the dyadosphere energy,
ergs, and the baryonic remnant mass in units of ,
. Having in this way estimated the
energy emitted during the beam-target phase, we evaluate the role of the
InterStellar Medium (ISM) number density (n) and of the ratio between the effective emitting area and the total surface area of the GRB
source, in reproducing the observed profiles of the GRB 970228 prompt emission
and X-ray (2-10 keV energy band) afterglow. The importance of the ISM
distribution three-dimensional treatment around the central black hole is also

Constraints on massive sterile neutrino species from current and future cosmological data
Sterile massive neutrinos are a natural extension of the Standard Model of
elementary particles. The energy density of the extra sterile massive states
affects cosmological measurements in an analogous way to that of active
neutrino species. We perform here an analysis of current cosmological data and
derive bounds on the masses of the active and the sterile neutrino states as
well as on the number of sterile states. The so-called (3+2) models with three
sub-eV active massive neutrinos plus two sub-eV massive sterile species is well
within the 95% CL allowed regions when considering cosmological data only. If
the two extra sterile states have thermal abundances at decoupling, Big Bang
Nucleosynthesis bounds compromise the viability of (3+2) models. Forecasts from
future cosmological data on the active and sterile neutrino parameters are also
presented. Independent measurements of the neutrino mass from tritium beta
decay experiments and of the Hubble constant could shed light on sub-eV massive
