Financial Leverage and Life Satisfaction of U.S. Baby Boomer Retirees: An Empirical Study

This study examined the association between financial leverage and life satisfaction for retired baby boomers in the United States. Financial planning factors modeled included mortgage and non-mortgage debt, wealth, income, financial satisfaction, and financial control. This empirical study used a sample of 984 retirees aged 50-70 from the 2016 Health and Retirement Study. Life-cycle hypothesis was employed to explain and model life satisfaction. Ordinary least squares regression produced an adjusted R-squared of 41.31%. Partial support for the hypotheses was demonstrated. Non-mortgage debt was found to be negatively associated with life satisfaction, indicating lack of utility for this type of debt. Mortgage debt, on the other hand, was not negatively or positively associated with life satisfaction. Significant variables contributing to life satisfaction included financial satisfaction, physical health, social control, life expectations, and marital status. The results of this modeling would appear to indicate that outstanding non-mortgage debt has a greater negative impact on life satisfaction than mortgage debt

Moving Forward: Expanding the Digital Marketing and Information Technology Strategy of a Thriving Nonprofit

The purpose of the project was to expand the digital marketing efforts and volunteer reporting and training processes of a thriving nonprofit healthcare organization. In 2015, the organization had an aging Web presence, disparate marketing systems, and inconvenient volunteer reporting and training processes. The project consisted of four central goals: improve website content management and update processes, improve website usability and digital marketing efforts, improve volunteer documentation and reporting processes, and improve volunteer training processes through accessible education resources. Utilizing a modest budget, the project team sought to improve marketing and information technology processes within the organization by implementing modern technology solutions, integrating systems, and providing convenient resources to stakeholders. The project resulted in a responsive website design, a reduction in ongoing website expenses, online event management and self-service ticketing for fundraising events, an email marketing and social media advertising strategy, HIPAA compliant volunteer reporting processes, and an online volunteer training program

Tendency of spherically imploding plasma liners formed by merging plasma jets to evolve toward spherical symmetry

Three dimensional hydrodynamic simulations have been performed using smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) in order to study the effects of discrete jets on the processes of plasma liner formation, implosion on vacuum, and expansion. The pressure history of the inner portion of the liner was qualitatively and quantitatively similar from peak compression through the complete stagnation of the liner among simulation results from two one dimensional radiationhydrodynamic codes, 3D SPH with a uniform liner, and 3D SPH with 30 discrete plasma jets. Two dimensional slices of the pressure show that the discrete jet SPH case evolves towards a profile that is almost indistinguishable from the SPH case with a uniform liner, showing that non-uniformities due to discrete jets are smeared out by late stages of the implosion. Liner formation and implosion on vacuum was also shown to be robust to Rayleigh-Taylor instability growth. Interparticle mixing for a liner imploding on vacuum was investigated. The mixing rate was very small until after peak compression for the 30 jet simulation.Comment: 28 pages, 16 figures, submitted to Physics of Plasmas (2012
