    AI in marketing, consumer research and psychology: A systematic literature review and research agenda

    This study is the first to provide an integrated view on the body of knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) published in the marketing, consumer research, and psychology literature. By leveraging a systematic literature review using a data-driven approach and quantitative methodology (including bibliographic coupling), this study provides an overview of the emerging intellectual structure of AI research in the three bodies of literature examined. We identified eight topical clusters: (1) memory and computational logic; (2) decision making and cognitive processes; (3) neural networks; (4) machine learning and linguistic analysis; (5) social media and text mining; (6) social media content analytics; (7) technology acceptance and adoption; and (8) big data and robots. Furthermore, we identified a total of 412 theoretical lenses used in these studies with the most frequently used being: (1) the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology; (2) game theory; (3) theory of mind; (4) theory of planned behavior; (5) computational theories; (6) behavioral reasoning theory; (7) decision theories; and (8) evolutionary theory. Finally, we propose a research agenda to advance the scholarly debate on AI in the three literatures studied with an emphasis on cross-fertilization of theories used across fields, and neglected research topics

    The impact of service robots on customer satisfaction online ratings: The moderating effects of rapport and contextual review factors

    Recent research has established a positive relationship between the use of service robots powered by artificial intelligence in hospitality firms and customer satisfaction online ratings, a particularly important form of electronic word of mouth. However, it is not clear if and how this relationship is augmented or diminished by moderating factors. In this study, we examined four potential moderators by using machine learning and natural language processing techniques to analyze 20,166 online reviews of hotels that had implemented service robots. We had four key findings. First, a positive service robot-satisfaction rating relationship was further enhanced by improved customer-service robot rapport during the service encounter. Second, higher customer effort focused on service robots in a review reduced the service robot-satisfaction rating relationship. Third, posting reviews using a mobile device (vs. other devices) showed higher satisfaction ratings. Finally, customers' prior experience in writing online reviews was unrelated to the service robot-satisfaction rating relationship. Taken together, these results suggest that service robots should be designed to be interactive and encourage customers to build rapport, for example, by service robots engaging in conversational flows. Moreover, customers should be nudged to use their mobile devices to post timely reviews on their positive human–robot interactions

    mRNA-Expression of KRT5 and KRT20 Defines Distinct Prognostic Subgroups of Muscle-Invasive Urothelial Bladder Cancer Correlating with Histological Variants

    Recently, muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) has been subclassified by gene expression profiling, with a substantial impact on therapy response and patient outcome. We tested whether these complex molecular subtypes of MIBC can be determined by mRNA detection of keratin 5 (KRT5) and keratin 20 (KRT20). Reverse transcriptase quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was applied to quantify gene expression of KRT5 and KRT20 using TaqMan (R)-based assays in 122 curatively treated MIBC patients (median age 68.0 years). Furthermore, in silico analysis of the MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) cohort (GSE48277 + GSE47993) was performed. High expression of KRT5 and low expression of KRT20 were associated with significantly improved recurrence-free survival (RFS) and disease-specific survival disease specific survival (DSS: 5-year DSS for KRT5 high: 58%; 5-year DSS for KRT20 high: 29%). KRT5 and KRT20 were associated with rates of lymphovascular invasion and lymphonodal metastasis. The combination of KRT5 and KRT20 allowed identification of patients with a very poor prognosis (KRT20(+)/KRT5(-), 5-year DSS 0%, p < 0.0001). In silico analysis of the independent MDACC cohorts revealed congruent results (5-year DSS for KRT20 low vs. high: 84% vs. 40%, p = 0.042). High KRT20-expressing tumors as well as KRT20(+)/KRT- tumors were significantly enriched with aggressive urothelial carcinoma variants (micropapillary, plasmacytoid, nested)

    Zusammenfassung: Ziele: "Activated leukocyte cell adhesion molecule" (ALCAM) ist ein Oberflächenimmunglobulin und wird in vielen Mammakarzinomen exprimiert. Es wird vermutet, dass ALCAM in der Tumorgenese und -progression eine Rolle spielt. Die Bedeutung des Adhäsionsmoleküls ALCAM für das Ansprechen auf eine taxanfreie adjuvante Chemotherapie wurde untersucht. Material und Methoden: Gewebeproben von 162Patientinnen mit Mammakarzinomen wurden im Hinblick auf die Expression des ALCAM-Proteins untersucht. Immunhistologische Untersuchungen (IHC) und Western-Blot-Analysen (WB) wurden mit einem monoklonalen Antikörper gegen ALCAM durchgeführt. Die Proteinmengen im WB wurden densitometrisch quantifiziert und mit klinischen sowie histologischen Parametern korreliert. Die Ergebnisse wurden auf mRNA-Ebene mithilfe der Microarray-Analysen (Affymetrix) validiert. Ergebnisse: In der normalen Brustdrüse wird ALCAM in den luminalen und den basalen Epithelzellen exprimiert. Die WB-Analysen von Mammakarzinomen zeigen eine positive Korrelation der ALCAM-Expression mit dem Östrogenrezeptorstatus (p=0,04). Bei Patientinnen, die eine taxanfreie Chemotherapie erhalten haben, ist eine hohe ALCAM-Expression (WB, Affymetrix) prädikitiv für das Ansprechen einer Chemotherapie. Der mediane mRNA-Level von ALCAM war bei Patientinnen, die während des Beobachtungszeitraums noch lebten, 4,5-fach höher als bei Patientinnen, die verstarben. Schlussfolgerung: Ein hoher ALCAM-Gehalt korreliert positiv mit dem Östrogenrezeptorstatus. Außerdem ist ALCAM ein prädiktiver Faktor für das Ansprechen einer taxanfreien Chemotherapi

    DNA self-assembly-driven positioning of molecular components on nanopatterned surfaces.

    We present a method for the specific, spatially targeted attachment of DNA molecules to lithographically patterned gold surfaces-demonstrated by bridging DNA strands across nanogap electrode structures. An alkanethiol self-assembled monolayer was employed as a molecular resist, which could be selectively removed via electrochemical desorption, allowing the binding of thiolated DNA anchoring oligonucleotides to each electrode. After introducing a bridging DNA molecule with single-stranded ends complementary to the electrode-tethered anchoring oligonucleotides, the positioning of the DNA molecule across the electrode gap, driven by self-assembly, occurred autonomously. This demonstrates control of molecule positioning with resolution limited only by the underlying patterned structure, does not require any alignment, is carried out entirely under biologically compatible conditions, and is scalable

    Tight--binding description of the quasiparticle dispersion of graphite and few--layer graphene

    A universal set of third--nearest neighbour tight--binding (TB) parameters is presented for calculation of the quasiparticle (QP) dispersion of NN stacked sp2sp^2 graphene layers (N=1...N=1... \infty) with ABAB stacking sequence. The QP bands are strongly renormalized by electron--electron interactions which results in a 20% increase of the nearest neighbour in--plane and out--of--plane TB parameters when compared to band structure from density functional theory. With the new set of TB parameters we determine the Fermi surface and evaluate exciton energies, charge carrier plasmon frequencies and the conductivities which are relevant for recent angle--resolved photoemission, optical, electron energy loss and transport measurements. A comparision of these quantitities to experiments yields an excellent agreement. Furthermore we discuss the transition from few layer graphene to graphite and a semimetal to metal transition in a TB framework.Comment: Corresponding author: A.     Transport through open quantum dots: making semiclassics quantitative

    We investigate electron transport through clean open quantum dots (quantum billiards). We present a semiclassical theory that allows to accurately reproduce quantum transport calculations. Quantitative agreement is reached for individual energy and magnetic field dependent elements of the scattering matrix. Two key ingredients are essential: (i) inclusion of pseudo-paths which have the topology of linked classical paths resulting from diffraction in addition to classical paths and (ii) a high-level approximation to diffractive scattering. Within this framework of the pseudo-path semiclassical approximation (PSCA), typical shortcomings of semiclassical theories such as violation of the anti-correlation between reflection and transmission and the overestimation of conductance fluctuations are overcome. Beyond its predictive capabilities the PSCA provides deeper insights into the quantum-to-classical crossover.Comment: 20 pages, 19 figure

    An amphitropic cAMP-binding protein in yeast mitochondria

    ABSTRACT: We describe the first example of a mitochondrial protein with a covalently attached phos-phatidylinositol moiety acting as a membrane anchor. The protein can be metabolically labeled with both stearic acid and inositol. The stearic acid label is removed by phospholipase D whereupon the protein with the retained inositol label is released from the membrane. This protein is a cAMP receptor of the yeast Saccharomyces cereuisiae and tightly associated with the inner mitochondrial membrane. However, it is converted into a soluble form during incubation of isolated mitochondria with Ca2+ and phospholipid (or lipid derivatives). This transition requires the action of a proteinaceous, N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive component of the intermembrane space and is accompanied by a decrease in the lipophilicity of the cAMP receptor. We propose that the component of the intermembrane space triggers the amphitropic behavior of the mitochondrial lipid-modified CAMP-binding protein through a phospholipase activity. Only in recent years specific fatty acids have been recog-nized to play important roles in the association of proteins with membranes. Both noncovalent and covalent interactions be-tween fatty acids and proteins have been reported. Among the latter are GTP-binding proteins (Molenaar et al., 1988)
