Fostering Collaboration between Preservice Educational Leadership and School Counseling Graduate Candidates
The purpose of this mixed-method study was to examine the perspectives of educational leadership and school counselor (SC) pre-service candidates on SC utilization in PreK-12 schools, barriers to implementing effective SC programs and professional SC identities, roles and responsibilities. Candidates (n = 105) participated in a collaborative class, where they engaged in group reflections and completed a survey. Emerging themes included time constraints, negative school culture, poor principal-counselor relationships, lack of communication and shared leadership

Attitudes about Inclusion: Through the Lens of Practitioners and Novices
The purpose of this study was to examine the attitudes of preservice and inservice education students, towards inclusion in school settings. Graduate students working on their New York State teacher certification in early childhood special education (n= 152) completed a survey, Attitudes Toward Inclusion. The survey addressed the following: attitudes towards various disabilities; perceptions of preparedness to modify instruction for students with disabilities and to meet their needs; willingness to include students with more severe disabilities in their classrooms; placement issues; and impact on general education students. The findings revealed three major themes: 1) inclusion for some students with special needs, as long as their disabilities are not severe; 2) social and learning benefits of inclusion; and 3) successful inclusion requires leadership and support. Recommendations for teacher preparation and program implementation are provided
Selective Inguinal Lymphadenectomy in the Treatment of Invasive Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Vulva
En bloc radical vulvectomy with bilateral inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy has now been replaced by radical wide excision and selective inguinal lymphadenectomy based on the stage and location of invasive vulvar cancer. Early stage lateral cancers can be effectively treated by radical wide excision and ipsilateral superficial inguinal lymphadenectomy. Lymph node mapping using perilesional injection of radiocolloid and blue dye may identify sentinel lymph nodes which can be removed, thereby avoiding the morbidity of full inguinal lymphadenectomy in selected patients with early stage disease
Domain structure of bulk ferromagnetic crystals in applied fields near saturation
We investigate the ground state of a uniaxial ferromagnetic plate with
perpendicular easy axis and subject to an applied magnetic field normal to the
plate. Our interest is the asymptotic behavior of the energy in macroscopically
large samples near the saturation field. We establish the scaling of the
critical value of the applied field strength below saturation at which the
ground state changes from the uniform to a branched domain magnetization
pattern and the leading order scaling behavior of the minimal energy.
Furthermore, we derive a reduced sharp-interface energy giving the precise
asymptotic behavior of the minimal energy in macroscopically large plates under
a physically reasonable assumption of small deviations of the magnetization
from the easy axis away from domain walls. On the basis of the reduced energy,
and by a formal asymptotic analysis near the transition, we derive the precise
asymptotic values of the critical field strength at which non-trivial
minimizers (either local or global) emerge. The non-trivial minimal energy

Layerless fabrication with continuous liquid interface production
Despite the increasing popularity of 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing (AM), the technique has not developed beyond the realm of rapid prototyping. This confinement of the field can be attributed to the inherent flaws of layer-by-layer printing and, in particular, anisotropic mechanical properties that depend on print direction, visible by the staircasing surface finish effect. Continuous liquid interface production (CLIP) is an alternative approach to AM that capitalizes on the fundamental principle of oxygen-inhibited photopolymerization to generate a continual liquid interface of uncured resin between the growing part and the exposure window. This interface eliminates the necessity of an iterative layer-by-layer process, allowing for continuous production. Herein we report the advantages of continuous production, specifically the fabrication of layerless parts. These advantages enable the fabrication of large overhangs without the use of supports, reduction of the staircasing effect without compromising fabrication time, and isotropic mechanical properties. Combined, these advantages result in multiple indicators of layerless and monolithic fabrication using CLIP technology
Jamming Model for the Extremal Optimization Heuristic
Extremal Optimization, a recently introduced meta-heuristic for hard
optimization problems, is analyzed on a simple model of jamming. The model is
motivated first by the problem of finding lowest energy configurations for a
disordered spin system on a fixed-valence graph. The numerical results for the
spin system exhibit the same phenomena found in all earlier studies of extremal
optimization, and our analytical results for the model reproduce many of these

Probability of Fallopian Tube and Ovarian Detection with Transvaginal Ultrasonography in Normal Women
Objective: Some ovarian malignancies may originate in the fallopian tube. The feasibility of ultrasonographically visualizing the fallopian tube is presented. Methods: In total, 549 normal women participated in the fallopian tube visualization trial, while ovarian visualization was studied in 43,521. Chi-square analysis, t-tests and multivariate analysis determined significance and interactions. Results: Ovaries were observed in 82.7% while fallopian tubes were detected in 77.2% of women and 85.2% of the time when an ovary was detected. Age, BMI or parity was not significantly different when one or both fallopian tubes were visualized. Elevated BMI had slightly greater influence than age in limiting visualization of the fallopian tubes in multivariate analysis. Conclusion: Fallopian tubes can often be identified sonographically. Ovarian visualization provides the strongest indicator favoring fallopian tube detection. Thus, ultrasonographic examinations for adnexal cancer could include evaluation of fallopian tubes even in women \u3e 60 years and in women with BMI ≥ 25
Catheter-based intervention for pulmonary vein stenosis due to fibrosing mediastinitis: The Mayo Clinic experience
AbstractIntroductionFibrosing mediastinitis (FM) is a rare but fatal disease characterized by an excessive fibrotic reaction in the mediastinum, which can lead to life-threatening stenosis of the pulmonary veins (PV). Catheter-based intervention is currently the only viable option for therapy. However, the current literature on how best to manage these difficult cases, especially in regards to sequential interventions and their potential complications is very limited.MethodsWe searched through a database of all patients who have undergone PV interventions at the Earl H. Wood Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory in Mayo Clinic, Rochester. From this collection, we selected patients that underwent PV intervention to relieve stenosis secondary to FM.ResultsEight patients were identified, with a mean age of 41years (24–59years). Five were men, and three were women. Three patients underwent balloon angioplasty alone, and five patients had stents placed. The majority of patients had acute hemodynamic and symptomatic improvement. More than one intervention was required in five patients, four patients had at least one episode of restenosis, and four patients died within four weeks of their first PV intervention.ConclusionsWe describe the largest reported case series of catheter-based intervention for PV stenosis in FM. Although catheter-based therapy improved hemodynamics, short-term vascular patency, and patient symptoms, the rate of life-threatening complications, restenosis, and mortality associated with these interventions was found to be high. Despite these associated risks, catheter-based intervention is the only palliative option available to improve quality of life in severely symptomatic patients with PV stenosis and FM. Patients with PV stenosis and FM (especially those with bilateral disease) have an overall poor prognosis in spite of undergoing these interventions due to the progressive and recalcitrant nature of the disease.
