Ultrafast photoinduced enhancement of nonlinear optical response in 15-atom gold clusters on indium tin oxide conducting film
We show that the third order optical nonlinearity of 15-atom gold clusters is
significantly enhanced when in contact with indium tin oxide (ITO) conducting
film. Open and close aperture z-scan experiments together with non-degenerate
pump-probe differential transmission experiments were done using 80 fs laser
pulses centered at 395 nm and 790 nm on gold clusters encased inside
cyclodextrin cavities. We show that two photon absorption coefficient is
enhanced by an order of magnitude as compared to that when the clusters are on
pristine glass plate. The enhancement for the nonlinear optical refraction
coefficient is ~3 times. The photo-induced excited state absorption using
pump-probe experiments at pump wavelength of 395 nm and probe at 790 nm also
show an enhancement by an order of magnitude. These results attributed to the
excited state energy transfer in the coupled gold cluster-ITO system are
different from the enhancement seen so far in charge donor-acceptor complexes
and nanoparticle-conjugate polymer composites.Comment: To appear in Optics Express (2013);

Most of the content on YouTube has been uploaded by individuals, although media corporations including CBS, the BBC, VEVO, Hulu, and other organizations offer some of their material via the site, as part of the YouTube partnership program. Unregistered users can watch videos, while registered users can upload an unlimited number of videos. Videos considered to contain offensive content are available only to registered users at least 18 years old. In November 2006, YouTube, LLC was bought by Google for US$1.65 billion, and now operates as a subsidiary of Google

Million frames per second infrared imaging system
An infrared imaging system has been developed for measuring the temperature increase during the dynamic deformation of materials. The system consists of an 8×8 HgCdTe focal plane array, each with its own preamplifier. Outputs from the 64 detector/preamplifiers are digitized using a row-parallel scheme. In this approach, all 64 signals are simultaneously acquired and held using a bank of track and hold amplifiers. An array of eight 8:1 multiplexers then routes the signals to eight 10 MHz digitizers, acquiring data from each row of detectors in parallel. The maximum rate is one million frames per second. A fully reflective lens system was developed, consisting of two Schwarszchild objectives operating at infinite conjugation ratio. The ratio of the focal lengths of the objectives determines the lens magnification. The system has been used to image the distribution of temperature rise near the tip of a notch in a high strength steel sample (C-300) subjected to impact loading by a drop weight testing machine. The results show temperature rises at the crack tip up to around 70 K. Localization of temperature, and hence, of deformation into "U" shaped zones emanating from the notch tip is clearly seen, as is the onset of crack propagation
CFD simulation using FLUENT and RANS3D - A validation exercise
The present work involves two-dimensional numerical simulation of three benchmark problems like (i) Laminar flow in a lid driven cavity (ii) Turbulent flow past a backward facing step and (iii) turbulent flow past NACA0012 aerofoil, using in-house flow solution code RANS3D and the commercially available FLUENT code. The results obtained using these codes are compared with the available measurement data and/or other computations
Anomalous size dependent rheological behavior of alumina based nanofluids
This paper was presented at the 2nd Micro and Nano Flows Conference (MNF2009), which was held at Brunel University, West London, UK. The conference was organised by Brunel University and supported by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, IPEM, the Italian Union of Thermofluid dynamics, the Process Intensification Network, HEXAG - the Heat Exchange Action Group and the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.Rheological behaviour of Alumina (Al2O3) based nanofluids (NFs) has been studied and found to be exhibit unexpected behaviour. Two base-fluids viz, water and ethylene glycols (EG). Three particle sizes (11, 45 and 150 nm), varying over an order of magnitude, were used to analyze the effect of particle size. The experimental data has shown typical Newtonian behavior for both W based and EG based alumina NFs The viscosity of EG based NFs is found to be anomalously reduced compared to the base fluid. This
reduction in viscosity may be due to hygroscopic nature of EG or due to the presence of water in as-received high concentration sample also, as told by some researchers. However, this phenomenon was absent for water based NFs. The inter-related effects of particle size, concentration and mode of dispersion (mono or
poly-dispersed) were investigated. To eliminate the effect of size variation, mono dispersed NFs are obtained by centrifuging and re-suspension of parent NFs. Particle migration under shear is attributed to the reduction of viscosity. The increase in bulk viscosity with particle size reduction is attributed to the surface forces acting between the particles and the medium in a suspension
What Patients Want to Know about Imaging Examinations: A Multiinstitutional U.S. Survey in Adult and Pediatric Teaching Hospitals on Patient Preferences for Receiving Information before Radiologic Examinations
Purpose
To identify what information patients and parents or caregivers found useful before an imaging examination, from whom they preferred to receive information, and how those preferences related to patient-specific variables including demographics and prior radiologic examinations.
Materials and Methods
A 24-item survey was distributed at three pediatric and three adult hospitals between January and May 2015. The χ2 or Fisher exact test (categorical variables) and one-way analysis of variance or two-sample t test (continuous variables) were used for comparisons. Multivariate logistic regression was used to determine associations between responses and demographics.
Results
Of 1742 surveys, 1542 (89%) were returned (381 partial, 1161 completed). Mean respondent age was 46.2 years ± 16.8 (standard deviation), with respondents more frequently female (1025 of 1506, 68%) and Caucasian (1132 of 1504, 75%). Overall, 78% (1117 of 1438) reported receiving information about their examination most commonly from the ordering provider (824 of 1292, 64%), who was also the most preferred source (1005 of 1388, 72%). Scheduled magnetic resonance (MR) imaging or nuclear medicine examinations (P < .001 vs other examination types) and increasing education (P = .008) were associated with higher rates of receiving information. Half of respondents (757 of 1452, 52%) sought information themselves. The highest importance scores for pre-examination information (Likert scale ≥4) was most frequently assigned to information on examination preparation and least frequently assigned to whether an alternative radiation-free examination could be used (74% vs 54%; P < .001).
Conclusion
Delivery of pre-examination information for radiologic examinations is suboptimal, with half of all patients and caregivers seeking information on their own. Ordering providers are the predominant and preferred source of examination-related information, with respondents placing highest importance on information related to examination preparation
Qualitative observation of reversible phase change in astrochemical ethanethiol ices using infrared spectroscopy
Here we report the first evidence for a reversible phase change in an ethanethiol ice prepared under astrochemical conditions. InfraRed (IR) spectroscopy was used to monitor the morphology of the ice using the Ssingle bondH stretching vibration, a characteristic vibration of thiol molecules. The deposited sample was able to switch between amorphous and crystalline phases repeatedly under temperature cycles between 10 K and 130 K with subsequent loss of molecules in every phase change. Such an effect is dependent upon the original thickness of the ice. Further work on quantitative analysis is to be carried out in due course whereas here we are reporting the first results obtained
Serum Lipid Profile and Electrocardiographic Changes in Young Smokers
Smoking represents an important and rapidly growing global cause of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity.Cigarrette smoking is one of the major modifiable risk factors of cardiovascular disease, unless smokers are able to quit, approximately 40% of them will die prematurely.The need of the hour is timely intervention through smoking cessation.Our study was carried out in young smokers to demonstrate the effects of smoking on lipid profile and electrocardiographic changes. We aimed to study the effect of smoking on lipid profile and electrocardiographic changes in young smokers.The study design was a cross sectional study comprising 75 male smokers and 75 healthy controls.Smoking history and physical examination was done .Fasting sample was analysed for lipid profile and electrocardiograph of all subjects were recorded.The statistical anaylsis between mean values were evaluated by student‘t' test. Statistical significance was assessed by chi-square test, p<0.001 was considered to be significant.The mean pulse rate, the mean systolic blood pressure, abnormal lipid profile and prolonged Qt interval were significantly higher in smokers (p<0.001).We demonstrated significant lipid abnormalities and electrocardiographic changes in young smokers who form an important risk group and target population in whom smoking cessation counseling should be carried out to decrease long term cardiovascular risk
Raman Evidence for Superconducting Gap and Spin-Phonon Coupling in Superconductor Ca(Fe0.95Co0.05)2As2
Inelastic light scattering studies on single crystal of electron-doped
Ca(Fe0.95Co0.05)2As2 superconductor, covering the tetragonal to orthorhombic
structural transition as well as magnetic transition at TSM ~ 140 K and
superconducting transition temperature Tc ~ 23 K, reveal evidence for
superconductivity-induced phonon renormalization; in particular the phonon mode
near 260 cm-1 shows hardening below Tc, signaling its coupling with the
superconducting gap. All the three Raman active phonon modes show anomalous
temperature dependence between room temperature and Tc i.e phonon frequency
decreases with lowering temperature. Further, frequency of one of the modes
shows a sudden change in temperature dependence at TSM. Using first-principles
density functional theory-based calculations, we show that the low temperature
phase (Tc < T < TSM) exhibits short-ranged stripe anti-ferromagnetic ordering,
and estimate the spin-phonon couplings that are responsible for these phonon
anomalies
