Airoscope telemetry system

The AIROscope (Ames Infrared Observatory telescope) telemetry system is described from signal conditioning on the gondola to display and storage at the ground station. All analog and digital data from the systems and experiments on the gondola go to a PCM encoder which formats the data into 10-bit words. Therefore, 0.1-percent resolution is inherently available for experimental data. The coded bit stream directly modulates the carrier of the FM transmitter. To insure reliable transmission over a 650-km range an 11-watt FM transmitter operating at 1483.5 MHz is used on the gondola. Modulation is narrow band FM with a maximum deviation of plus or minus 500 kHz. The maximum modulation frequency is determined by the data bit rate which could be as high as 500 kbps. Presently, a rate of 20.48 kbps is used. The ground station receiving system includes a steerable antenna (19-db gain), preamplifier (21-db gain) and receiver. All data are recorded on a tape recorder. The recorded signal then can be played back through the PCM decommutator unit at a later time for detailed data analysis by the experimenter

The Fermilab Tevatron offers unique opportunities to perform measurements of the heavier B hadrons that are not accessible at the Upsilon(4S) resonance. Searching for Doubly-Charged Higgs Bosons at Future Colliders

Doubly-charged Higgs bosons ($\Delta^{--}/\Delta^{++}$) appear in several extensions to the Standard Model and can be relatively light. We review the theoretical motivation for these states and present a study of the discovery reach in future runs of the Fermilab Tevatron for pair-produced doubly-charged Higgs bosons decaying to like-sign lepton pairs. Three Spelling Measures As Correlates of Reading Ability in Underprepared College Freshmen

If a significant relationship were found between spelling abilities using varied measures and reading levels using an easily administered reading test, a remedial program for spelling should have a positive effect upon reading skills as well by tapping common cognitive processes and by cultivating those language competencies which are common to both reading and spelling. Such information would be of particular value to support facilities in colleges which serve large minority populations

What do Women Want? Men, Women, and Job Satisfaction in the Public Service

Research in organizational behavior and public administration has long considered differences between men and women at work. Research indicates that men and women often communicate differently, prefer different approaches to organizational structure and design, and view rewards through different lenses. As women become better represented in public organizations, and at higher levels, it becomes even more important to explore sex-based differences. This paper seeks to uncover differences between men and women when it comes to determinants of job satisfaction. We use the existing literature to develop a series of hypotheses about the different factors that predict job satisfaction for the sexes. We test these hypotheses using data from a survey of health and human services managers, finding that there are more commonalities than differences when it comes to what satisfies men and women at work. In this paper we report a new tablet-based app to support carers and older people to reminisce, think creatively and learn through reflection. Creativity support is offered though a service that implements the creativity triggers technique adapted to a model of person-centered dementia care

Constrained Dynamics of Universally Coupled Massive Spin 2-spin 0 Gravities

The 2-parameter family of massive variants of Einstein's gravity (on a Minkowski background) found by Ogievetsky and Polubarinov by excluding lower spins can also be derived using universal coupling. A Dirac-Bergmann constrained dynamics analysis seems not to have been presented for these theories, the Freund-Maheshwari-Schonberg special case, or any other massive gravity beyond the linear level treated by Marzban, Whiting and van Dam. Here the Dirac-Bergmann apparatus is applied to these theories. A few remarks are made on the question of positive energy. Being bimetric, massive gravities have a causality puzzle, but it appears soluble by the introduction and judicious use of gauge freedom.Comment: 6 pages; Talk given at QG05, Cala Gonone (Italy), September 200
