Adolescents’ perceptions about non-suicidal self-injury, suicidal ideation and suicide attempts
Introduction: Non-suicidal self-injury, suicidal thoughts and behaviors present high prevalence rates in adolescence.
Aims: This study aimed to describe adolescents’ perceptions about these
phenomena, and to analyze and compare the differences of these perceptions among adolescents with and without a history of non-suicidal selfinjury, suicidal ideation, and suicide attempts.
Methods: The convenience sample consisted of 452 adolescents in ages between 12 and 18 (M(SD) = 15.59(1.50), 48% male and 52% female. For
data collection, the Free Association Test was used in a survey, and data was
analyzed through content analysis.
Results: Results showed that 10.8% of the participants presented a history of non-suicidal self-injury, 19.9% suicidal ideation, and 2.7% suicide
attempts. Perceptions were grouped into eight dimensions: Consumption of Psychoactive Substances; Death/Suicide; Interpersonal Factors;
Intrapersonal Factors; Moral Judgments; Negative Emotions; Psychological Functions; and Self-Injurious Methods. Further analysis revealed that
adolescents with and without a history of non-suicidal self-injury, suicidal
ideation, and suicide attempts presented differences in their perceptions of
these phenomena.
Conclusions: These findings contribute to the understanding regarding the
perceptions of adolescents about these phenomena and might have implications regarding their prevention and intervention.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Free Non-vascularized Toe Phalangeal Transfers in Symbrachydactyly: Outcome Analysis
Free nonvascularized toe phalangeal transfer is an established surgical option for the reconstruction of hypoplastic digits. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate our experience with this procedure and to assess bone growth and digit function as well foot morbidity. Material and Methods We retrospectively evaluated the clinical records for all children with symbrachydactyly submitted to free nonvascularized toe phalangeal transfer between 2002 and 2017. A total of 8 patients were included. We summoned the patients to na appointment to clinically assess the range ofmotion, the stability, and the alignment of the neo-joint. We radiographically measured the final length and the expected percentage of growth of the transferred phalanx. We also evaluated the foot for comorbidities. Results The mean age at the time of the first surgery was 19 months (range: 8–42
months). A total of 20 phalanges were harvested: 16 total proximal phalanges, 2 middle phalanges, 1 subtotal proximal phalanx, and 1 accessory thumb phalanx. The distal part of one proximal phalanx was trimmed because the skin pocket was too tight. Two patients underwent a secondary procedure to release the syndactyly. One transfer required revision surgery due to distal tip necrosis and exposition of the transferred
phalanx. In the present series, the overall clinical and radiographic outcomes were compatible to those reported in other studies. Discussion The main limitation of the nonvascularized toe phalanx transfer is the
preexisting soft tissue envelope of the finger and the limited growth potential of the transferred bone.
Conclusion Irrespective of the amount of growth achieved in the transferred phalanx,
the actual transfer and growth attained should not be viewed as the end result, but
rather as a means of providing a stable and functional joint.
The present work aimed to verify the effects of Baypamun®HK on the survival of albinic mice, experimentally infected with Toxoplasma gondii RH strain, treated or not with sulfadiazine-pirimetamine, as well as on the formation and the number of brain cysts. Four groups of 20 mices were inoculated with 10(5) tachizoites, subcutaneously, and undergone to different treatments. Serum tests were carried out by indirect immunofluorescence and samples of brain, liver and lung were collected from animals who died for cytological and brain cysts examinations. After 60 days, all survivors were sacrificed.
Quality Assessment of Laser Welding Dual Phase Steels
Since non-conforming parts create waste for industry, generating undesirable costs, it is necessary to set up quality plans that not only guarantee product conformity but also cut the root causes of welding defects by developing the concept of quality at origin. Due to their increasing use in automotive industry, dual phase (DP) steels have been the chosen material for this study. A quality plan for welding DP steel components by laser was developed. This plan is divided into three parts: pre-welding, during and post-welding. A quality assessment regarding mechanical properties, such as hardness, microstructure and tensile strength, was also performed. It was revealed that DP steel does not present considerable weldability problems, except for the usual softening of the heat affected zone (HAZ) and the growth of martensite in the fusion zone (FZ), and the best analysis techniques to avoid failures in these steels are finite element method (FEM), visual techniques during welding procedure and digital image correlation (DIC) for post-weld analysis. The present work was done and funded under the scope of projects UIDB/00481/2020 and

Improving the Mechanical Strength of Ductile Cast Iron Welded Joints Using Different Heat Treatments
The main advantage of welding cast iron is to recover parts by repairing defects induced by casting processes (porosities, etc.), before they enter their working cycle, as well as repair cracks or fractures when already in service. This method contributes to decreased foundry industrial waste and avoids the additional energy costs of their immediate recycling. Therefore, it is necessary to have a welded joint with similar or better characteristics than the parent material. The major problem of welding cast iron is that this material has a very high content of carbon in comparison to steel (≈3%). Therefore, when it is heated by the very high temperatures from arc welding and during its process of solidification, very hard and brittle phases originate, known as ledeburite and martensite, and appear in the partially melted zone and in the heat-affected zone. Eventually, this problem can be solved by implementing heat treatments such as preheat or post weld heat treatments under specific parameters. Therefore, in this study, the aim is to collect data about the effects of heat treatments performed at different temperatures on welded joints of high strength ductile cast iron (SiboDur® 450), and to evaluate the effects of heat treatments performed at diverse temperatures on welded joints of this type of material, using Shield Metal Arc Welding and nickel electrodes. Mechanical strength, hardness, and microstructure were analyzed, showing that the best mechanical strength in the joint (380 MPa) was obtained using two passes of E C Ni-Cl (ISO EN 1071:2015) filler metal and post weld heat treatments (PWHT) of 400 °C for two hours.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
An overview of the quality of service in bluetooth communications in healthcare
Currently, the general public requires devices getting faster and great performance, that is, devices ensuring a better quality of service. One way to achieve these goals is through the use of devices supported by the mobile com-puting with tools to help the search for information. Bluetooth technology is an open standard for wireless communication allowing the transmission of data and information between electronic devices within walking distance, with minimum resource expenditures, safe and rapid transition of data. So, the Bluetooth tech-nology was initially designed to support simple network devices and personal devices such as mobile phones, PDAs and computers, but quickly it were discov-ered other applications in several areas. In this article, it will be performed a lit-erature review on the topic, with the goal to understand how the Bluetooth tech-nology can benefit increases in the Quality of Service and the presentation of some actual and potential biomedical applications.(undefined
Exploring the suicidal continuum: Deliberate self-harm diversity and severity as predictors of suicidal ideation and suicide attempts
Deliberate self-harm (DSH) in adolescence is a predictor of suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs). However, there is still a lack of research systematizing the association between DSH and STBs. Therefore, our main goal was to analyze if DSH diversity and severity predicted suicidal ideation and suicide attempts.
Our sample comprised 237 Portuguese adolescents and young adults with a history of DSH, from community (80.2%, n = 190) and clinical (19.8%, n = 47) settings, aged between 14 and 23 years (M = 17.31, SD=1.36).
Results showed that DSH diversity and severity were significant predictors of suicidal ideation and suicide attempts.
