Shoulder pathologies are prevalent and reduce the quality of life. Due to the shoulder joint's complexity, healthcare professionals face challenges to evaluate, diagnose, and treat these pathologies. On the other hand, the acquisition, presentation, and analysis of patient data in healthcare is complex and hindered by the absence of standardization and interoperability in Database Management Systems. Hence, in this study, we propose a web platform based on openEHR structures that incorporates user interface forms for registering patient physical examinations. The benefits of implementing this approach include structured and standardized data collection, and better communication and information exchange between different systems. This work has been supported by FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia) within the R&D Units Project Scope: UIDB/00319/2020. Portugal has made many efforts to approximate schooling levels to the European average. In the area of Physiotherapy, the number of schools has been increasing. This phenomenon, associated with the economic/financial crisis, triggered an increase in unemployment, particularly among the youth. In this context, internships appear as an attempt to facilitate youth integration in the labor market. The present work aims to verify empirically whether the implementation of internships facilitates integration into the labor market for physiotherapists, and if this varies depending on the sociodemographic characteristics of trainees. Additionally, it aims to verify whether such integration differs between the types of internships that can be made: the so-called professional or volunteer internships. To achieve these objectives, a questionnaire was designed in an application site "Gmail", called "Google docs", which was sent and published on pages related to Physiotherapy. A total of 338 questionnaires were answered in the period between 27.11.2011 and 20.02.2012. From the statistical analysis of the data obtained, it is concluded that internships are not statistically determining factors for integration in the labor market. It is also concluded that physiotherapists who underwent professional internships are more likely to be working on the local of the internships than those who did volunteer internships

Nanoemulsions and thermosensitive nanoemulgels of phenytoin and fosphenytoin for intranasal administration: Formulation development and in vitro characterization

Phenytoin is a low solubility anticonvulsant drug. It has, nonetheless, other possible therapeutic indications, such as neuropathic pain, including trigeminal neuralgia, or wound healing. Its use has decreased due to side effects, but nasal/intranasal administration could significantly increase drug safety and efficacy. The aim of this work was to develop and study nanoemulsions and thermosensitive nanoemulgels of phenytoin and fosphenytoin, in combination, for intranasal administration, with immediate and sustained release profiles. Nanoemulsions were prepared by adding the aqueous phase, containing gelling polymers in the case of nanoemulgels, to emulsion preconcentrates, followed, in the optimized procedure, by premix membrane emulsification. Formulation design and optimization was guided by drug strength, rheological behavior, osmolality, mean droplet size and polydispersity. Fosphenytoin interfered significantly with Carbopol but not with Pluronic's gelation, and allowed to achieve drug strengths equivalent to 22 or 27 mg/g of phenytoin in lead nanoemulsions, and 16.7 mg/g of phenytoin in the lead nanoemulgel. The final selected low viscosity nanoemulsions had an immediate or prolonged fosphenytoin release profile, depending of anhydrous phase proportion (10% or 40%, respectively). The thermosensitive nanoemulgel, with 10% anhydrous phase, showed prolonged drug release. Future studies will establish whether they are more suited for topical effects or therapeutic brain delivery.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    OpenEHR based bariatric surgery follow-up

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than one billion people in the world are obese, and this number is still increasing. When this disease becomes a high risk to the individual's health and the non-invasive approach does not result in weight loss, it is usual to resort to an invasive intervention, bariatric surgery. Due to all the specifications, as well as the multidisciplinary treatment inherent to this procedure, the need for a specialized environment emerges. In this context, the main objective of this topic focuses on the development of a platform for registration and monitoring of bariatric surgery. For this purpose, a web platform was created, which integrates openEHR forms for the registration of appointments regarding this intervention, and uses openEHR modeling to build the interoperable template. The development of this project aims to provide greater ease and speed in patient care, assisting health professionals in their daily lives. This work has been supported by “FCT–Fundac¸ao para a Ciência e Tecnologia” within the R&D Units Project ˆ Scope: UIDB/00319/2020. Tectonic evolution of the Juvenile Tonian Serra da Prata magmatic arc in the Ribeira belt, SE Brazil: Implications for early west Gondwana amalgamation

    Get PDF
The evolution of the Ribeira belt resulted from the progressive amalgamation of several terranes against the eastern margin of the São Francisco Craton between ca. 620 and 580 Ma. This work brings new field, U-Pb geochronology, geochemistry and isotopic (Sm-Nd and Sr) data on the evolution primitive rocks from the Serra da Prata magmatic arc and their relationships with the previously described Rio Negro arc. The new U-Pb data allow the distinction of two episodes of arc generation: the Serra da Prata Arc (856–838 Ma) and the Rio Negro Arc (790–620 Ma). Rocks from the oldest stage are composed of metaluminous calc-alkaline diorites, tonalites and granodiorites, and geochemical signatures compatible with magmatic arc scenarios. Their rocks are associated to a metamorphosed volcano-sedimentary of intra or back-arc basin setting platform carbonates, amphibolites (basaltic lavas) and psammitic rocks of the Italva group. Whole-rock Nd and Sr isotope data indicate more primitive contribution than earliest stage: initial εNd = −3.7 to +5.2, TDM = 1.68–0.92 Ga and ⁸⁷Sr/⁸⁶Sr initial ratios between 0.7061 and 0.7113. The second stage – Rio Negro arc – yielded more mature arc signatures: initial εNd = −8.4 to −2.5, TDM = 1.93–1.33 Ga and ⁸⁷Sr/⁸⁶Sr initial ratios between 0.7098 and 0.7211. The new data have been interpreted as an evolution of a Tonian primitive intra-oceanic stage of the magmatic arc generation, followed by more continental or transitional arcs during the Rio Negro stage. The data from both arc stages contrast with the younger Serra da Bolívia and Rio Doce continental arcs (570–590 Ma) developed in a proximal location. The data are similar to other Tonian-Ediacaran magmatic arcs: the Goiás arc in the Brasília Belt (ca. 862–630 Ma) and the São Gabriel arc (ca. 840–690 Ma), located respectively along the western margin of the São Francisco and Rio de La Plata cratons. In a Western Gondwana scenario, the juvenile signature indicates intra-oceanic tectonic settings. The combination of the older Tonian arcs with the more evolved Cryogenian to Ediacaran arcs within the Neoproterozoic belts, suggests more than 200 m.y. of subduction around the older cratonic blocks that made up Western Gondwana

Evaluation of the Extraction Temperature Influence on Polyphenolic Profiles of Vine-Canes (Vitis vinifera) Subcritical Water Extracts

This work focused on evaluating the possibility of using vineyard pruning wastes from two Portuguese Vitis vinifera varieties; Touriga Nacional (TN) and Tinta Roriz (TR), as new potential ingredients for the nutraceutical industry. An environmentally friendly extraction technique; namely subcritical-water extraction (SWE), was employed. The overall results indicate that phenolic acids were the major class of compounds quantified; being gallic acid the principal one. The highest value for total phenolic content (TPC) was obtained for the TR extract at 250 °C (181 ± 12 mg GAE/g dw). In terms of antioxidant activity; the DPPH values for the extracts obtained at 250 °C were approximately 4-fold higher than the ones obtained at 125 °C; with TR extract presenting the highest value (203 ± 22 mg TE/g dw). Thus, the TR extract obtained through SWE at 250 °C was selected to evaluate the scavenging activity and the in vitro effects on cells due to the best results achieved in the previous assays. This extract presented the ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species (O2●-, HOCl and ROO●). No adverse effects were observed in HFF-1 viability after exposure to extract concentrations below 100 μg/mL. This work demonstrated that vine-canes extracts could be a potential ingredient to nutraceutical industryO.D. is thankful for the research grant from project PTDC/BII-BIO/30884/2017—POCI-01-0145-FEDER-030884.
