    ANTICIPATED AMOUNT VERIFICATION

    The present disclosure provides a system and a method for verifying an anticipated amount of a digital financial transaction. The disclosure proposes including a request for an anticipated amount verification (AAV) associated with the transaction, while forwarding a transaction request from a merchant to an issuer via an acquirer and a payment processing platform. Thereafter, the issuer generates an AAV response indicating whether the transaction is eligible for the anticipated amount. Further, the issuer communicates the AAV response to the merchant, via the payment processing platform and the acquirer. Based on the AAV response the merchant determines whether the transaction is eligible for the anticipated amount. Said AAV allows to avoid any potential declining of the transaction by the issuer due to non-sufficient fund (NSF) or any other related issues. Therefore, the present disclosure allows to increase approval rates of transactions authorization by reducing NSFs or any other issues

    On Taungurung Land: Sharing History and Culture is the first monograph to examine how the Taungurung Nation of central Victoria negotiated with protectors and pastoralists to retain possession of their own country for as long as possible. Historic accounts, to date, have treated the histories of Acheron and Mohican Aboriginal stations as preliminary to the establishment of the more famous Coranderrk on Wurundjeri land. Instead of 'rushing down the hill' to Coranderrk, this book concentrates upon the two foundational Aboriginal stations on Taungurung Country. A collaboration between Elder Uncle Roy Patterson and Jennifer Jones, the book draws upon Taungurung oral knowledge and an unusually rich historical record. This fine-grained local history and cultural memoir shows that adaptation to white settlement and the preservation of culture were not mutually exclusive. Uncle Roy shares generational knowledge in this book in order to revitalise relationships to place and establish respect and mutual practices of care for Country

    Collection, Care, and Use of Living Animals in the High School Biology Laboratory

    Biology is a study of living things and things that may have once been alive. It is "living things" which present the biology teacher with his problems, for the maintenance of living things requires time and care. With this in mind, this report has been written for the purpose of being used as an aid in helping to maintain a living laboratory. It presents successfully tried methods for collecting and culturing cotpmon laboratory animals according to works of leading authorities in the field. In addition, mention is made of the usefulness of each organism. In compiling the report, the data was gleaned from periodicals, biological supply house bulletins, and various texts which contained material relevant to the subject. Many invertebrates and some classes of vertebrates can be cultured in the laboratrory or classroom, providing living forms for activities in behavior, nature study, classification, reproduction, and variation, or comparative studies of organ systems, circulation of blood, and observation of the heart beat. Furthermore, many of these animals serve as food for other animals which often are reared in the laboratory. The best ways for maintaining living things are those methods which reproduce the most favorable field conditions and eliminate natural enemies where possible. Diet and temperature control are the factors most responsible for success in keeping organisms in a healthy state.     A category-specific advantage for numbers in verbal short-term memory: Evidence from semantic dementia

    This study explored possible reasons for the striking difference between digit span and word span in patients with semantic dementia. Immediate serial recall (ISR) of number and non-number words was examined in four patients. For every case, the recall of single-digit numbers was normal whereas the recall of non-number words was impaired relative to controls. This difference extended to multi-digit numbers, and remained even when frequency, imageability, word length, set size and size of semantic category were matched for the numbers and words. The advantage for number words also applied to the patients' reading performance. Previous studies have suggested that semantic memory plays a critical role in verbal short-term memory (STM) and reading: patients with semantic dementia show superior recall and reading of words that are still relatively well known compared to previously known but now semantically degraded words. Additional assessments suggested that this semantic locus was the basis of the patients' category-specific advantage for numbers. Comprehension was considerably better for number than non-number words. Number knowledge may be relatively preserved in semantic dementia because the cortical atrophy underlying the condition typically spares the areas of the parietal lobes thought to be crucial in numerical cognition but involves the inferolateral temporal-lobes known to support general conceptual knowledge. © 2003 Elsevier Ltd.     Progressive associative phonagnosia: A neuropsychological analysis

    AbstractThere are few detailed studies of impaired voice recognition, or phonagnosia. Here we describe two patients with progressive phonagnosia in the context of frontotemporal lobar degeneration. Patient QR presented with behavioural decline and increasing difficulty recognising familiar voices, while patient KL presented with progressive prosopagnosia. In a series of neuropsychological experiments we assessed the ability of QR and KL to recognise and judge the familiarity of voices, faces and proper names, to recognise vocal emotions, to perceive and discriminate voices, and to recognise environmental sounds and musical instruments. The patients were assessed in relation to a group of healthy age-matched control subjects. QR exhibited severe impairments of voice identification and familiarity judgments with relatively preserved recognition of difficulty-matched faces and environmental sounds; recognition of musical instruments was impaired, though better than recognition of voices. In contrast, patient KL exhibited severe impairments of both voice and face recognition, with relatively preserved recognition of musical instruments and environmental sounds. Both patients demonstrated preserved ability to analyse perceptual properties of voices and to recognise vocal emotions. The voice processing deficit in both patients could be characterised as associative phonagnosia: in the case of QR, this was relatively selective for voices, while in the case of KL, there was evidence for a multimodal impairment of person knowledge. The findings have implications for current cognitive models of voice recognition

    Tracking cortical entrainment in neural activity: auditory processes in human temporal cortex.

    A primary objective for cognitive neuroscience is to identify how features of the sensory environment are encoded in neural activity. Current auditory models of loudness perception can be used to make detailed predictions about the neural activity of the cortex as an individual listens to speech. We used two such models (loudness-sones and loudness-phons), varying in their psychophysiological realism, to predict the instantaneous loudness contours produced by 480 isolated words. These two sets of 480 contours were used to search for electrophysiological evidence of loudness processing in whole-brain recordings of electro- and magneto-encephalographic (EMEG) activity, recorded while subjects listened to the words. The technique identified a bilateral sequence of loudness processes, predicted by the more realistic loudness-sones model, that begin in auditory cortex at ~80 ms and subsequently reappear, tracking progressively down the superior temporal sulcus (STS) at lags from 230 to 330 ms. The technique was then extended to search for regions sensitive to the fundamental frequency (F0) of the voiced parts of the speech. It identified a bilateral F0 process in auditory cortex at a lag of ~90 ms, which was not followed by activity in STS. The results suggest that loudness information is being used to guide the analysis of the speech stream as it proceeds beyond auditory cortex down STS toward the temporal pole.This work was supported by an EPSRC grant to William D.     Ecology Drives the Worldwide Distribution of Human Diseases

    Identifying the factors underlying the origin and maintenance of the latitudinal diversity gradient is a central problem in ecology, but no consensus has emerged on which processes might generate this broad pattern. Interestingly, the vast majority of studies exploring the gradient have focused on free-living organisms, ignoring parasitic and infectious disease (PID) species. Here, we address the influence of environmental factors on the biological diversity of human pathogens and their global spatial organization. Using generalized linear multivariate models and Monte Carlo simulations, we conducted a series of comparative analyses to test the hypothesis that human PIDs exhibit the same global patterns of distribution as other taxonomic groups. We found a significant negative relationship between latitude and PID species richness, and a nested spatial organization, i.e., the accumulation of PID species with latitude, over large spatial scales. Additionally, our results show that climatic factors are of primary importance in explaining the link between latitude and the spatial pattern of human pathogens. Based on our findings, we propose that the global latitudinal species diversity gradient might be generated in large part by biotic interactions, providing strong support for the idea that current estimates of species diversity are substantially underestimated. When parasites and pathogens are included, estimates of total species diversity may increase by more than an order of magnitude
