    Le Postmodernisme québécois. Tendances actuelles

    Get PDF
The distinctiveness of Quebec postmodernism can be seen in the relationship of theoretical, critical and fictive discourses. On this basis, the author describes the principle axes which define Quebec postmodernism today, notably, experimental writing, the questioning of History, feminism, nihilism and heterogeneity. The analysis of this last concept in Jacques Poulin's Volkswagen Blues demonstrates how the novel addresses contemporary issues of marginal behaviour and of ethnic, racial and sexual identity

Posters, Programs, and Perspectives on Democracy

Kahl and Paterson provide an example of collaboration around a specific, one-time program that both units were interested in bringing to their university, in this case an art installation on the theme of democracy. Although the authors spearheaded the program, they tapped the expertise of colleagues in their units and across campus in order to accomplish their goals. Kahl and Paterson\u27s work also serves as an example of combining active programming, in this case three lectures by campus faculty, with passive programming, an approach where professionals create exhibits or educational displays in a centrally located venue for students and others to browse and absorb at their convenience

Thoughts on Democracy Exhibit: What about the Arts?

Illinois State University, sparked by the striking images at the 2009 ADP National Meeting, hosted the Thoughts on Democracy: Reinterpreting Norman Rockwell’s Four Freedoms Posters Exhibit from February 12 to May 7, 2010. The exhibit included a lecture series of three speakers: “The Impact of Fear on Contemporary Political Dialogue,” “A Manifesto of Power and Ideals: FDR’s Four Freedoms Speech in Historical Perspective” and “Visual Culture and American Modernism in the 1930s and 1940s: Figuration and Abstraction.” We examined how a special effort was made to target the exhibit beyond the traditional social science and humanities audiences for civic and political engagement efforts

Distribution of Legionella Species and Serogroups Isolated by Culture in Patients with Sporadic Community-Acquired Legionellosis: An International Collaborative Survey

    Get PDF
This international collaborative survey identified culture-confirmed legionellosis in 508 patients with sporadic community-acquired legionellosis. Legionella pneumophila constituted 91.5% of the isolates. Serogroup 1 was the predominant serogroup (84.2%), and serogroups 2-13 (7.4%) accounted for the remaining serogroups. The Legionella species most commonly isolated were L. longbeachae (3.9%) and L. bozemanii (2.4%), followed by L. micdadei, L. dumoffii, L. feeleii, L. wadsworthii and L. anisa (2.2% combined). L. longbeachae constituted 30.4% of the community-acquired Legionella isolates in Australia and New Zealan

Experimental and theoretical studies reveal that 1,2,6-thiadiazines act as triplet photosensitizers that produce 1O2 and then undergo a chemoselective [3 + 2] cycloaddition to give an endoperoxide that ring contracts with selective carbon atom excision and complete atom economy. The reaction was optimized under both batch and continuous-flow conditions and is also efficient in green solvents.Publisher PDFPeer reviewe
