RPC Gap Production and Performance for CMS RE4 Upgrade
CMS experiment constructed the fourth Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC) trigger
station composed of 144 RPCs to enhance the high momentum muon trigger
efficiency at both endcap regions. All new CMS endcap RPC gaps are produced in
accordance with QA and QC at the Korea Detector Laboratory (KODEL) in Korea.
All qualified gaps have been delivered to three assembly sites: CERN in
Switzerland, BARC in India, and Ghent University in Belgium for the RPC
detector assembly. In this paper, we present the detailed procedures used in

Distribution of Korean Family Names
The family name distribution in Korea is investigated in comparison with
previous studies in other countries. In Korea, both the family name and its
birthplace, where the ancestor of the family originated, are commonly used to
distinguish one family name from the others. The family name distributions with
and without the information of the regional origins are analyzed by using
different data sets of various sizes, and compared with previous studies
performed in other countries. The growth rate of the family is empirically
obtained. Contrary to commonly used assumptions, the growth rate is found to be

Motivated to serve: An empirical examination of motivation and consequences in the public and nonprofit organizations
This article draws upon a sample of nonprofit and state government managers to examine the role that service motivation plays in both sectors. The research addressed three main questions: 1) what are the main motivational types and constructs of managers in the public and nonprofit sectors? 2) what differences exist between these sectors in terms of level of motivation? And 3) what are the long-term and short-term consequences of different types of motivation? Our findings suggest that in many ways public and nonprofit managers are similar in terms of the importance of intrinsic versus extrinsic rewards. Public and nonprofit managers show both of the similarities and differences in terms of the consequences of motivation leading to increased job engagement and increased civic and volunteer activity. The results provide further evidence about relations among the antecedents, moderators, and consequences as well as the role of motivation, mentoring, and interpersonal communication. Additionally, our research also points to important moderating factors such as mentoring and interpersonal communication that may act to increase both motivation and enhance outcomes. Electrical Investigation of the Oblique Hanle Effect in Ferromagnet/Oxide/Semiconductor Contacts
We have investigated the electrical Hanle effect with magnetic fields applied
at an oblique angle ({\theta}) to the spin direction (the oblique Hanle effect,
OHE) in CoFe/MgO/semiconductor (SC) contacts by employing a three-terminal
measurement scheme. The electrical oblique Hanle signals obtained in
CoFe/MgO/Si and CoFe/MgO/Ge contacts show clearly different line shapes
depending on the spin lifetime of the host SC. Notably, at moderate magnetic
fields, the asymptotic values of the oblique Hanle signals (in both contacts)
are consistently reduced by a factor of cos^2({\theta}) irrespective of the
bias current and temperature. These results are in good agreement with
predictions of the spin precession and relaxation model for the electrical
oblique Hanle effect. At high magnetic fields where the magnetization of CoFe
is significantly tilted from the film plane to the magnetic field direction, we
find that the observed angular dependence of voltage signals in the CoFe/MgO/Si
and CoFe/MgO/Ge contacts are well explained by the OHE, considering the
misalignment angle between the external magnetic field and the magnetization of

The legacies of state corporatism in Korea: regulatory capture in the Sewol ferry tragedy
Regarding the causes of the Sewol ferry accident that claimed 304 lives in April 2014, some scholars have blamed neoliberal reforms such as deregulation and privatization for the safety regulatory failure. Others have highlighted the role of industry influence and corruption. Our analysis shows that regulatory capture was the crucial causal factor; moreover, this capture was institutionalized from the state-corporatist arrangements of the authoritarian period rather than reflecting new arrangements under the democratic era or corruption per se. The delegation of the critical safety regulation enforcement to the shipping industry association was not introduced as a neoliberal reform but in the context of state corporatism of the Park Chung-hee regime. Democratic governments continued to protect the monopoly of the lucrative Incheon–Jeju ferry business, contrary to neoliberal logic. A Wireless Power Transfer Based Implantable ECG Monitoring Device
Implantable medical devices (IMDs) enable patients to monitor their health anytime and receive treatment anywhere. However, due to the limited capacity of a battery, their functionalities are restricted, and the devices may not achieve their intended potential fully. The most promising way to solve this limited capacity problem is wireless power transfer (WPT) technology. In this study, a WPT based implantable electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring device that continuously records ECG data has been proposed, and its effectiveness is verified through an animal experiment using a rat model. Our proposed device is designed to be of size 24 x 27 x 8 mm, and it is small enough to be implanted in the rat. The device transmits data continuously using a low power Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication technology. To charge the battery wirelessly, transmitting (Tx) and receiving (Rx) antennas were designed and fabricated. The animal experiment results clearly showed that our WPT system enables the device to monitor the ECG of a heart in various conditions continuously, while transmitting all ECG data in real-time.11Ysciescopu
