Primary Amoebic (Naegleria fowleri) Meningoencephalitis Presenting as Status Epilepticus
Primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) is a rare entity. Usual presenting features are fever, headache and seizures with meningeal signs and this disease carries high mortality rate. We present a case report of PAM presenting as status epilepticus
Rare Coinfection of Scrub Typhus and Malaria in Immunocompetent Person
Scrub Typhus, or tsutsugamushi disease is a febrile illness caused by bacteria of the family Rickettsiaceae and named Orientia tsutsugamushi. Recently it has been found to endemic in Subhimalayan region of India.Malaria is highly endemic in rest of India but its prevalence is low in Subhimalayan region because of the altitude. We report a rare case of a patient having coinfection with scrub typhus and malaria
Short range correlations in relativistic nuclear matter models
Short range correlations are introduced using unitary correlation method in a
relativistic approach to the equation of state of the infinite nuclear matter
in the framework of the Hartree-Fock approximation. It is shown that the
correlations give rise to an extra node in the ground-state wave-function in
the nucleons, contrary to what happens in non-relativistic calculations with a
hard core. The effect of the correlations in the ground state properties of the
nuclear matter and neutron matter is studied. The nucleon effective mass and
equation of state (EOS) are very sensitive to short range correlations. In
particular, if the pion contact term is neglected a softening of the EOS is
predicted. Correlations have also an important effect on the neutron matter EOS
which presents no binding but only a very shallow minimum contrary to the
Walecka model.Comment: 8pages, 4 figure
De Sitter solutions in N=4 matter coupled supergravity
We investigate the scalar potential of gauged N=4 supergravity with matter.
The extremum in the SU(1,1)/U(1) scalars is obtained for an arbitrary number of
matter multiplets. The constraints on the matter scalars are solved in terms of
an explicit parametrisation of an
SO(6,6+n) element. For the case of six matter multiplets we discuss both
compact and noncompact gauge groups.
In an example involving noncompact groups and four scalars we find a
potential with an absolute minimum and a positive cosmological constant.Comment: 14 page
Phase Transition and Hybrid Star in a Nonlinear model
The phase transition between the nuclear matter and the quark matter is
examined. The relativistic mean field theory(RMF) is consider with interacting
nucleons and mesons using TM1 parameter set for the nuclear matter equations of
state. It is found that the trasition point depends on coupling constant
and bag pressure. From the study of the structure of a hybrid
neutron star, it is observed that the star contains quark matter in the
interior and neutron matter on the outer perifery.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, to appear in Int. J. Mod. Phy.
