    Unruptured left coronary sinus of Valsalva aneurysm with bicuspid aortic valve stenosis and left ventricular inferior wall ischemia

    Left coronary sinus of Valsalva aneurysm is a rare condition, and combination with aortic valve stenosis is veryun common. The diagnosis by transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) could be difficult and can easily be interpreted as aortic root dilatation only. Even the computed tomography of the chest (CTscan) and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) will not give a definite diagnosis unless we think of this pathology. We report a case of unruptured left coronary sinus of Valsalva aneurysm (ULSVA) in 39-year-old male patient combined with stenosis of bicus pidaortic valve and complete heart block. He has a permanent pacemaker (PPM) implanted and was operated successfully with aortic valve replacement (AVR) and direct closure of the ULSVA

    Dysentery epidemics, caused bу Васt. dysenteriae Sonne have been described rather oflen in the past decade, especially аmong children groups. More rаrеlу а combined course of the dysentery epidemic is reported with epidemic caused bу adenoviral or other etiological factors. In this country, Sheljazkov and Radev, Slanishev, Nedialkova and Belova have observed clinical angina in patients with dysentery. In the literature reviewed wе couldn't find evidence for simultaneous development of dysentery epidemic - Sоnnе and catarrhal inflammation of the upper respiratory ways (CURW). The latter combination was observed in the boarding school of the village G. nеаг Vаrnа.The first dysentery cases occurred on 3 February, 1964 аnd spread rapidly, reaching the peak on 11 February; the illness was controlled on 15 February. The cases with CURW almost coincide with the dynamics just described.lnformation concerning dysentery discase аnd CURW show that CURW morbidity rаtе is higher than that of dysentery. ln part of the patieпts а combination was disclosed of the two affections. The analysis of the widespreading of the illnesses according to classes, sex аnd dormitories enabled us of establishing the following characteristic features:Boys and girls of the lower classes аге involved in а greater degree bу dysentery affections аnd less bу CURW. The contrary is valid for the children of the upper classes. The morbidity гаtе of dysentery among girls is higher as compared to boys, whereas morbidity of CURW - higher among boys and lower among girls.The involvement of children bу dysentery аnd CURW according to dormitories is reverse. For instaпce, in II dormitory where girls live mainly of III and IV classes, the dysentery cases are 60% and CURW - 36%. whereas in IV dormitory, where boys from the VII class lived, the affected bу dysentery аге 25% and bу CURW - 75%

    Inclusive production of charged pions in p+C collisions at 158 GeV/c beam momentum

    The production of charged pions in minimum bias p+C interactions is studied using a sample of 377000 inelastic events obtained with the NA49 detector at the CERN SPS at 158 GeV/c beam momentum. The data cover a phase space area ranging from 0 to 1.8 GeV/c in transverse momentum and from -0.1 to 0.5 in Feynman x. Inclusive invariant cross sections are given on a grid of 270 bins per charge thus offering for the first time a dense coverage of the projectile hemisphere and of the cross-over region into the target fragmentation zone.Comment: 31 pages, 30 figures, submitted to European Journal of Physic

    Upper Limit of D0 Production in Central Pb-Pb Collisions at 158A GeV

    Results are presented from a search for the decays D0 -> Kmin piplus and D0bar -> Kplus pimin in a sample of 3.8x10^6 central Pb-Pb events collected with a beam energy of 158A GeV by NA49 at the CERN SPS. No signal is observed. An upper limit on D0 production is derived and compared to predictions from several models.Comment: REVTEX 5 pages, 4 figure

    Energy dependence of particle ratio fluctuations in central Pb+Pb collisions from sNN=\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}} =~6.3 to 17.3 GeV

    We present measurements of the energy dependence of event-by-event fluctuations in the K/pi and (p + \bar{p})/pi multiplicity ratios in heavy ion collisions at the CERN SPS. The particle ratio fluctuations were obtained for central Pb+Pb collisions at five collision energies, \sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}, between 6.3 and 17.3 GeV. After accounting for the effects of finite-number statistics and detector resolution, we extract the strength of non-statistical fluctuations at each energy. For the K/pi ratio, larger fluctuations than expected for independent particle production are found at all collision energies. The fluctuations in the (p + \bar{p})/pi ratio are smaller than expectations from independent particle production, indicating correlated pion and proton production from resonance decays. For both ratios, the deviation from purely statistical fluctuations shows an increase towards lower collision energies. The results are compared to transport model calculations, which fail to describe the energy dependence of the K/pi ratio fluctuations.Comment: 11 pages, 10 figures, update to published versio

    High p_T Spectra of Identified Particles Produced in Pb+Pb Collisions at 158GeV/nucleon Beam Energy

    Transverse momentum spectra of pi^{+/-}, p, pbar, K^{+/-}, K^0_s and Lambda at midrapidity were measured at high p_T in Pb+Pb collisions at 158GeV/nucleon beam energy by the NA49 experiment. Particle yield ratios (p/pi, K/pi and Lambda/K^0_s) show an enhancement of the baryon/meson ratio for p_T>2GeV/c. The nuclear modification factor R_{CP} is extracted and compared to RHIC measurements and pQCD calculations.Comment: Quark Matter 2005 parallel section proceeding

    Bose-Einstein correlations of pion pairs in central Pb+Pb collisions at CERN SPS energies

    Measurements of Bose-Einstein correlations of pion pairs in central Pb+Pb collisions were performed with the NA49 detector at the CERN SPS for beam energies of 20A, 30A, 40A, 80A, and 158A GeV. Correlation functions were measured in the longitudinally co-moving ``out-side-long'' reference frame as a function of rapidity and transverse momentum in the forward hemisphere of the reaction. Radius and correlation strength parameters were obtained from fits of a Gaussian parametrization. The results show a decrease of the radius parameters with increasing transverse momentum characteristic of strong radial flow in the pion source. No striking dependence on pion-pair rapidity or beam energy is observed. Static and dynamic properties of the pion source are obtained from simultaneous fits with a blast-wave model to radius parameters and midrapidity transverse momentum spectra. Predictions of hydrodynamic and microscopic models of Pb+Pb collisions are discussed.Comment: 22 pages, 23 figure

    Energy dependence of multiplicity fluctuations in heavy ion collisions

    The energy dependence of multiplicity fluctuations was studied for the most central Pb+Pb collisions at 20A, 30A, 40A, 80A and 158A GeV by the NA49 experiment at the CERN SPS. The multiplicity distribution for negatively and positively charged hadrons is significantly narrower than Poisson one for all energies. No significant structure in energy dependence of the scaled variance of multiplicity fluctuations is observed. The measured scaled variance is lower than the one predicted by the grand-canonical formulation of the hadron-resonance gas model. The results for scaled variance are in approximate agreement with the string-hadronic model UrQMD
