    peer reviewedThe power transfer efficiency of energy harvesting systems is strongly dependent on the power conditioning circuits, especially rectifiers. The voltage drop across rectifier and its leakage current can drastically influence the efficiency. The hybrid energy harvesters impose even more severe constraints on the rectifier. The low Vth transistors and bulk regulation technique are used in this work to mitigated the voltage drop and leakage current, respectively. It has been shown that the bulk regulation stops the current leakage through body of PMOS transistor. A near zero threshold cross connected CMOS rectifier is presented in this work using the standard 180nm UMC technology and experimental analysis are carried out to evaluate the circuit performance. © 2015 ICST

    A L\'evy input fluid queue with input and workload regulation

    We consider a queuing model with the workload evolving between consecutive i.i.d.\ exponential timers {eq(i)}i=1,2,...\{e_q^{(i)}\}_{i=1,2,...} according to a spectrally positive L\'evy process Yi(t)Y_i(t) that is reflected at zero, and where the environment ii equals 0 or 1. When the exponential clock eq(i)e_q^{(i)} ends, the workload, as well as the L\'evy input process, are modified; this modification may depend on the current value of the workload, the maximum and the minimum workload observed during the previous cycle, and the environment ii of the L\'evy input process itself during the previous cycle. We analyse the steady-state workload distribution for this model. The main theme of the analysis is the systematic application of non-trivial functionals, derived within the framework of fluctuation theory of L\'evy processes, to workload and queuing models

    The 2-global flash mfERG in glaucoma: attempting to increase sensitivity by reducing the focal flash luminance and changing filter settings

    Purpose: To test a new 2-flash multifocal electroretinogram (mfERG) paradigm in glaucoma using a reduced light intensity of the m-frame flash as opposed to the global flash, as it has been suggested that this may increase the responses induced by the global flash, which has been the part of the mfERG response where most changes have been noted in glaucoma. Methods: A mfERG was recorded from one eye of 22 primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) patients [16 normal tension glaucoma (NTG), 6 high tension glaucoma (HTG)] and 20 control subjects. A binary m-sequence (2^13-1, L max 100cd/m2, L min <1cd/m2), followed by two global flashes (L max 200cd/m2) at an interval of 26ms (VERIS 6.0™, FMSIII), was used. The stimulus array consisted of 103 hexagons. Retinal signals were amplified (gain=50K) and bandpass filtered at 1-300Hz. For each focal response, the root mean square was calculated. We analyzed 5 larger response averages (central 15° and 4 adjoining quadrants) as well as 8 smaller response averages (central 10° and 7 surrounding response averages of approximately 7° radius each). Three epochs were analyzed: the direct component at 15-45ms (DC) and the following two components induced by the effects of the preceding focal flash on the response to the global flashes at 45-75ms (IC-1) and at 75-105ms (IC-2). Statistical analysis was performed using linear mixed effects models adjusted for age. Results: Responses differed significantly between POAG patients and controls in all central response averages. This difference was larger for the central 10° than for the response average of the central 15°. While these observations held true for all response epochs analyzed, the DC differed least and the IC-1 most when POAG was compared to control. For POAG, the most sensitive differential measure was IC-1 of the central 10° with an area under the ROC curve of 0.78. With a cutoff value of 12.52nV/deg2, 80% of the POAG patients (100% HTG, 69% NTG) were correctly classified as abnormal, while 77% of the control subjects were correctly classified as normal. When the results of the mfERG were compared to the visual fields, there was a tendency for the mfERG to decrease as the mean defect increased. However, this correlation was only significant in the superior nasal quadrant when the IC-1 of the mfERG was compared to the corresponding area of the visual field. Conclusion: When compared to findings from previous studies, reducing the luminance of the m-frame flash in the 2-global flash paradigm did not increase the sensitivity and specificity of the mfERG to detect glaucoma furthe

    We consider a branching random walk on a multi(Q)-type, supercritical Galton-Watson tree which satisfies Kesten-Stigum condition. We assume that the displacements associated with the particles of type Q have regularly varying tails of index α, while the other types of particles have lighter tails than that of particles of type Q. In this article, we derive the weak limit of the sequence of point processes associated with the positions of the particles in the nth generation. We verify that the limiting point process is a randomly scaled scale-decorated Poisson point process (SScDPPP) using the tools developed in \cite{bhattacharya:hazra:roy:2016}. As a consequence, we shall obtain the asymptotic distribution of the position of the rightmost particle in the nth generation

    Zusammenfassung: Eine 43-jährige Patientin wurde uns vorgestellt, da seit 2-3Monaten ihr linkes Augenlid in wechselnder Ausprägung hing. Ferner nahm sie auch Doppelbilder in Extrempositionen oder nach schnellen Augenbewegungen wahr und war lichtempfindlich. Die Diagnose ergab ein Keilbeinmeningeom. Es wurde in der Folge 2-mal innerhalb von 3Monaten mittels Radiopeptidtherapie mit 90Y-DOTATOC (Somatostatin-Analogon) behandelt. Bei unserer Patientin führte diese Therapie zu einer Volumenreduktion des Tumors sowie zu einer klinischen Verbesserung und dann Stabilisierun

    Bone Proteomics Method Optimization for Forensic Investigations

Published by American Chemical Society.The application of proteomic analysis to forensic skeletal remains has gained significant interest in improving biological and chronological estimations in medico-legal investigations. To enhance the applicability of these analyses to forensic casework, it is crucial to maximize throughput and proteome recovery while minimizing interoperator variability and laboratory-induced post-translational protein modifications (PTMs). This work compared different workflows for extracting, purifying, and analyzing bone proteins using liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS)/MS including an in-StageTip protocol previously optimized for forensic applications and two protocols using novel suspension-trap technology (S-Trap) and different lysis solutions. This study also compared data-dependent acquisition (DDA) with data-independent acquisition (DIA). By testing all of the workflows on 30 human cortical tibiae samples, S-Trap workflows resulted in increased proteome recovery with both lysis solutions tested and in decreased levels of induced deamidations, and the DIA mode resulted in greater sensitivity and window of identification for the identification of lower-abundance proteins, especially when open-source software was utilized for data processing in both modes. The newly developed S-Trap protocol is, therefore, suitable for forensic bone proteomic workflows and, particularly when paired with DIA mode, can offer improved proteomic outcomes and increased reproducibility, showcasing its potential in forensic proteomics and contributing to achieving standardization in bone proteomic analyses for forensic applications
