The intra-articular use of ropivacaine for the control of post knee arthroscopy pain
AIMS: The purpose of this prospective randomised study is to evaluate the efficacy, safety and the appropriate dose of the ropivacaine in the control of post-knee arthroscopy pain. METHODS: We randomised 60 patients in two groups to receive 10 ml/7.5 mg/ml ropivacaine (Group B) or 20 ml/7.5 mg/ml (Group A) at the end of a routine knee arthroscopy. We monitored the patient's blood pressure, heart rate, allergic reactions, headache, nausea, we assessed the pain using the visual analogue score at intervals of 1,2,3,4 and 6 hours after the operation. and we recorded the need for extra analgesia. RESULTS: The intraarticular use of the ropivacaine provided excellent control of pain after knee arthroscopy. At two hours post-operatively there wasn't any difference between the two groups. Afterwards, the Group A showed increased pain and need for supplementary medication. CONCLUSION: We believe that intraarticular use of ropivacaine is effective to reduce post-operative pain minimising the use of systematic analgesia
A randomised controlled trial for the effectiveness of intra-articular Ropivacaine and Bupivacaine on pain after knee arthroscopy: the DUPRA (DUtch Pain Relief after Arthroscopy)-trial
In this double-blinded, randomised clinical trial, the aim was to compare the analgesic effects of low doses of intra-articular Bupivacaine and Ropivacaine against placebo after knee arthroscopy performed under general anaesthesia. A total of 282 patients were randomised to 10 cc NaCl 0.9%, 10 cc Bupivacaine 0.5% or 10 cc Ropivacaine 0.75%. Patients received the assigned therapy by intra-articular injection after closure of the portal. Pain and satisfaction were measured at one, 4 h and 5-7 days after arthroscopy with Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) -scores. NSAID consumption was also recorded. One-h NRS-scores at rest were higher in the NaCl group compared with the Bupivacaine group (P <0.01), 1 h NRS-scores in flexion were higher in the NaCl group compared with the Bupivacaine (P <0.01) and Ropivacaine (P <0.01) groups. NRS-satisfaction at 4 h was higher for the Bupivacaine group compared with the NaCl group (P = 0.01). Differences in NRS-scores were significant but low in magnitude. NSAID consumption was lower in the Bupivacaine group compared with the NaCl group (P <0.01). The results of this randomised clinical trial demonstrate improved analgesia after administration of low doses of intra-articular Bupivacaine and Ropivacaine after arthroscopy of the knee. Considering reports of Bupivacaine and Ropivacaine being chondrotoxic agents and the relatively small improvement on patient comfort found in this trial, it is advised to use systemic anaesthetic instead of intra-articular Bupivacaine or Ropivacaine for pain relief after knee arthroscopy.
Search for time-dependent B0s - B0s-bar oscillations using a vertex charge dipole technique
We report a search for B0s - B0s-bar oscillations using a sample of 400,000
hadronic Z0 decays collected by the SLD experiment. The analysis takes
advantage of the electron beam polarization as well as information from the
hemisphere opposite that of the reconstructed B decay to tag the B production
flavor. The excellent resolution provided by the pixel CCD vertex detector is
exploited to cleanly reconstruct both B and cascade D decay vertices, and tag
the B decay flavor from the charge difference between them. We exclude the
following values of the B0s - B0s-bar oscillation frequency: Delta m_s < 4.9
ps-1 and 7.9 < Delta m_s < 10.3 ps-1 at the 95% confidence level.Comment: 18 pages, 3 figures, replaced by version accepted for publication in

Combined Tevatron upper limit on gg->H->W+W- and constraints on the Higgs boson mass in fourth-generation fermion models
Report number: FERMILAB-PUB-10-125-EWe combine results from searches by the CDF and D0 collaborations for a standard model Higgs boson (H) in the process gg->H->W+W- in p=pbar collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV. With 4.8 fb-1 of integrated luminosity analyzed at CDF and 5.4 fb-1 at D0, the 95% Confidence Level upper limit on \sigma(gg->H) x B(H->W+W-) is 1.75 pb at m_H=120 GeV, 0.38 pb at m_H=165 GeV, and 0.83 pb at m_H=200 GeV. Assuming the presence of a fourth sequential generation of fermions with large masses, we exclude at the 95% Confidence Level a standard-model-like Higgs boson with a mass between 131 and 204 GeV.We combine results from searches by the CDF and D0 collaborations for a standard model Higgs boson (H) in the process gg→H→W+W- in pp̅ collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at √s=1.96 TeV. A Randomized Controlled Trial of Intraarticular Ropivacaine for Pain Management Immediately Following Total Knee Arthroplasty
Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a commonly performed procedure for the treatment of end-stage arthritis of the knee. Pain control following TKA is difficult to manage in some patients. We examined the use of a postoperative intraarticular injection of 100 mL of 0.2% (200 mg) ropivacaine in a double-blind, prospective, placebo-controlled pilot study to evaluate its use as a pain control modality. All patients received general anesthesia. Postoperatively, patients were placed on intravenous patient-controlled analgesia with morphine. The ropivacaine group showed an early trend in lower visual analog scale (VAS) scores when compared with the placebo group. Patients receiving ropivacaine used a similar amount of narcotics compared with the placebo group. Intraarticular ropivacaine used for pain control after TKA demonstrated no statistically significant difference in lowering VAS scores or narcotic usage; therefore, intraarticular ropivacaine as a single modality is not recommended for effective pain management
Search for time-dependent Bs0-Bs0 oscillations using exclusively reconstructed Ds±s mesons
A search for B0s-B0s oscillations is performed using a sample of 400 000 hadronic Z0 decays collected by the SLAC Large Detector experiment. The B0s candidates are reconstructed in the B0s→D-sX channel with D-s→Ππ-, K*0K-. The B0s production flavor is determined using the large forward-backward asymmetry of polarized Z0→bb decays and charge information in the hemisphere opposite that of the B0s candidate. The decay flavor is tagged by the charge of the D±s. From a sample of 361 candidates with an average B0s purity of 40%, we exclude the following values of the oscillation frequency: Δms<1.4 ps-1 and 2.4<Δms <5.3 ps-1 at the 95% confidence level
