Three-dimensional Dirac oscillator in a thermal bath
The thermal properties of the three-dimensional Dirac oscillator are
considered. The canonical partition function is determined, and the
high-temperature limit is assessed. The degeneracy of energy levels and their
physical implications on the main thermodynamic functions are analyzed,
revealing that these functions assume values greater than the one-dimensional
case. So that at high temperatures, the limit value of the specific heat is
three times bigger.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures. Text improved, references added. Revised to match

Aging in coherent noise models and natural time
Event correlation between aftershocks in the coherent noise model is studied
by making use of natural time, which has recently been introduced in complex
time-series analysis. It is found that the aging phenomenon and the associated
scaling property discovered in the observed seismic data are well reproduced by
the model. It is also found that the scaling function is given by the
-exponential function appearing in nonextensive statistical mechanics,
showing power-law decay of event correlation in natural time.Comment: 4 pages and 5 figure
Relation Discovery from Web Data for Competency Management
This paper describes a technique for automatically discovering associations between people and expertise from an analysis of very large data sources (including web pages, blogs and emails), using a family of algorithms that perform accurate named-entity recognition, assign different weights to terms according to an analysis of document structure, and access distances between terms in a document. My contribution is to add a social networking approach called BuddyFinder which relies on associations within a large enterprise-wide "buddy list" to help delimit the search space and also to provide a form of 'social triangulation' whereby the system can discover documents from your colleagues that contain pertinent information about you. This work has been influential in the information retrieval community generally, as it is the basis of a landmark system that achieved overall first place in every category in the Enterprise Search Track of TREC2006
Conformal transformation in bowtie nanoantennas and nanocavities: unveiling hidden symmetries
In this work, bowtie nanoantennas and nanocavities are analyzed using the conformal transformation technique. Their performance is studied in terms of the non-radiative Purcell enhancement and self-induced optical forces experienced by quantum emitters. It is demonstrated how these two geometrically different plasmonic nanoparticles can share the same non-radiative Purcell spectra. This hidden symmetric response is unveiled by properly applying the conformal transformation technique, demonstrating that both nanoparticles share the same transformed geometry
Impact of plasmonic bowtie nanoantennas and nanocavities on the dynamics of nearby nanoemitters
Metallic nanoparticles exert a strong influence on the electrodynamics and mechanical dynamics of nanoemitters in their vicinity. Transformation optics can provide analytical descriptions and physical insight on these scenarios. As a case of study, we discuss the use of conformal transformation to understand the nonradiative Purcell enhancement and the optical forces experienced by nanoemitters nearby bowtie nanocavities and nanoantennas

Stochasticity and evolutionary stability
In stochastic dynamical systems, different concepts of stability can be
obtained in different limits. A particularly interesting example is
evolutionary game theory, which is traditionally based on infinite populations,
where strict Nash equilibria correspond to stable fixed points that are always
evolutionarily stable. However, in finite populations stochastic effects can
drive the system away from strict Nash equilibria, which gives rise to a new
concept for evolutionary stability. The conventional and the new stability
concepts may apparently contradict each other leading to conflicting
predictions in large yet finite populations. We show that the two concepts can
be derived from the frequency dependent Moran process in different limits. Our
results help to determine the appropriate stability concept in large finite
populations. The general validity of our findings is demonstrated showing that
the same results are valid employing vastly different co-evolutionary
processes
