Pilot plant for production of fish ensilage and the economics of production
This communication describes the design aspect and functions of individual pieces of equipment of a pilot plant for the production of fish ensilage based on lactic acid fermentation process. Details about the equipment, process flow sheet and equipment layout of the pilot plant have been given. An attempt has been made to prepare an estimate of the cost of production of liquid ensilage and solid feed mix
Sustainable Development and the Philosophy of Grand National Happiness: Socio-Economic and Genetic Paradigm
The issue of development is based, in all forms and levels, on attaining equilibrium of development and environmental sustainability over time. Development is related to enhancement of the quality of human life in terms of increase in economic growth, infrastructure, industrial output, per capita income, adequate social security and polity, which is partly achieved by exploitation of nature or sometimes one section of people for the benefit of another section.Just as a gold medal has another face, development has also a dark hidden face. Development being an economic action tends to cause environmental damage. Environmental degradation disrupts the developmental process in the LDCs by imposing heavy cost on expenses on health as well as reduction on the productivity and human resources. In such a mad race of development, instead of growth statistics, the LDCs should look into a Grand National Happiness Index (GNHI) in framing the regional development co-ordinates. In this paper an attempt is made to highlight the philosophy of GNHI by encompassing socio-economic, genetic and environmental elements
A small scale fish meal dryer
A batch type rotary drum dryer for the production of fish meal suitable for operation in the fishing villages of India has been designed, fabricated and operated successfully. The dyer can be used for production of fish meal from whole lean fish or press-cake from fish body oil extraction plants. The time taken to reach a moisture level below 10% is 5-8 hours depending upon the type of material fed into the dryer
On two-dimensionalization of three-dimensional turbulence in shell models
Applying a modified version of the Gledzer-Ohkitani-Yamada (GOY) shell model,
the signatures of so-called two-dimensionalization effect of three-dimensional
incompressible, homogeneous, isotropic fully developed unforced turbulence have
been studied and reproduced. Within the framework of shell models we have
obtained the following results: (i) progressive steepening of the energy
spectrum with increased strength of the rotation, and, (ii) depletion in the
energy flux of the forward forward cascade, sometimes leading to an inverse
cascade. The presence of extended self-similarity and self-similar PDFs for
longitudinal velocity differences are also presented for the rotating 3D
turbulence case
Affine equivariant rank-weighted L-estimation of multivariate location
In the multivariate one-sample location model, we propose a class of flexible
robust, affine-equivariant L-estimators of location, for distributions invoking
affine-invariance of Mahalanobis distances of individual observations. An
involved iteration process for their computation is numerically illustrated.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figures, 6 table
