Effect of aluminum phosphate additions on composition of three-component plasma-sprayed solid lubricant
Image analysis (IA) and electron microprobe X-ray analysis (EMXA) were used to characterize a plasma-sprayed, self-lubricating coating, NASA LUBE PS106, specified by weight percent as 35NiCr-35Ag-30CaF2. To minimize segregation of the powder mixture during the plasma-spraying procedure, monoaluminum phosphate was added to form agglomerate particles. Three concentrations of AlPO4 were added to the mixtures: 1.25, 2.5, and 6.25 percent by weight. Analysis showed that 1.25 wt% AlPO4 yielded a CaF2 deficiency, 2.5 wt% kept the coating closest to specification, and 6.25 wt% yielded excess CaF2 as well as more impurities and voids and a deficiency in silver. Photomicrographs and X-ray maps are presented. The methods of IA and EMXA complement each other, and the reasonable agreement in the results increases the confidence in determining the coating composition
Steps in modular specifications for concurrent modules
© 2015 Published by Elsevier B.V.The specification of a concurrent program module is a difficult problem. The specifications must be strong enough to enable reasoning about the intended clients without reference to the underlying module implementation. We survey a range of verification techniques for specifying concurrent modules, in particular highlighting four key concepts: auxiliary state, interference abstraction, resource ownership and atomicity. We show how these concepts combine to provide powerful approaches to specifying concurrent modules
Role of IAC in large space systems thermal analysis
Computer analysis programs to evaluate critical coupling effects that can significantly influence spacecraft system performance are described. These coupling effects arise from the varied parameters of the spacecraft systems, environments, and forcing functions associated with disciplines such as thermal, structures, and controls. Adverse effects can be expected to significantly impact system design aspects such as structural integrity, controllability, and mission performance. One such needed design analysis capability is a software system that can integrate individual discipline computer codes into a highly user-oriented/interactive-graphics-based analysis capability. The integrated analysis capability (IAC) system can be viewed as: a core framework system which serves as an integrating base whereby users can readily add desired analysis modules and as a self-contained interdisciplinary system analysis capability having a specific set of fully integrated multidisciplinary analysis programs that deal with the coupling of thermal, structures, controls, antenna radiation performance, and instrument optical performance disciplines
Signatures of non-gaussianity in the isocurvature modes of primordial black hole dark matter
Primordial black holes (PBHs) are black holes which may have formed very
early on during the radiation dominated era in the early universe. We present
here a method by which the large scale perturbations in the density of
primordial black holes may be used to place tight constraints on
non-gaussianity if PBHs account for dark matter (DM). The presence of
local-type non-gaussianity is known to have a significant effect on the
abundance of primordial black holes, and modal coupling from the observed CMB
scale modes can significantly alter the number density of PBHs that form within
different regions of the universe, which appear as DM isocurvature modes. Using
the recent \emph{Planck} constraints on isocurvature perturbations, we show
that PBHs are excluded as DM candidates for even very small local-type
non-gaussianity, and remarkably the constraint on
is almost as strong. Even small non-gaussianity is excluded if DM is
composed of PBHs. If local non-Gaussianity is ever detected on CMB scales, the
constraints on the fraction of the universe collapsing into PBHs (which are
massive enough to have not yet evaporated) will become much tighter.Comment: 23 pages, 11 figures. V2: minor corrections and changes, matches
