Review of the field, analytical and statistical methods used in the determination and handling of rare-earth elements in soil-plant system
y asiáticos. Cabe señalar que la investigación en los países latinoamericanos es muy escasa;
This study concerns a detailed review of published papers on rare-earth elements (REEs)
in soil-plant system. Such studies have been carried out mainly in Europe and Asia and are
relatively scarse in Latin American countries. Nevertheless, the interest in evaluating the uptake
of REEs in soil-plant system is continually increasing. This is due to the fact that fertilizers contain
high concentrations of these elements. Different techniques have been used for sampling,
experimental work and REE determinations. However, we consider that the data handling has
been rather statistically deficient. This review elaborates on the following points: (i) general
characteristics of the REEs; (ii) bibliographical review of sampling and analytical techniques
actually used in 37 papers with an emphasis on the statistical deficiencies; (iii) examples of
the application of statistical methods (confidence interval of the mean and significance tests
of Fisher F and Student t) based on two of the compiled papers. The first application showed
that the original authors did not apply any statistical methodology to evaluate their data quality
and that there are systematic differences between the data analyzed in their laboratory and the
certified values of the reference material. The application of significance tests to the data from
the second paper demonstrated that there are significant differences in the mean values of Ce
and Eu (only these two elements were exemplified) in plants from different sites.Fil: Hernández-Martínez, J. Lucero.

Weather, Crime, and Mental Illness
ABSTRACT - A simple count of disturbed incidents in the mentally ill and total radio transmissions of the Minneapolis Police Departmenf were collected daily over a six-month period. These were correlated with calendar time, temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure for the same period. Separate comparisons were made of all these measures for December 1959 with those of other Decembers. All the weather variables correlated linearly and significantly with the behavior v.ariables; temperature and humidity, positively; barometric pressure negatively. Calendar time for the half year correlated linearly and negatively. December 1959 had a higher crime and mental disturbance rate than other Decembers; this was accompanied by higher temperature and humidity
Computing prime factors with a Josephson phase qubit quantum processor
A quantum processor (QuP) can be used to exploit quantum mechanics to find
the prime factors of composite numbers[1]. Compiled versions of Shor's
algorithm have been demonstrated on ensemble quantum systems[2] and photonic
systems[3-5], however this has yet to be shown using solid state quantum bits
(qubits). Two advantages of superconducting qubit architectures are the use of
conventional microfabrication techniques, which allow straightforward scaling
to large numbers of qubits, and a toolkit of circuit elements that can be used
to engineer a variety of qubit types and interactions[6, 7]. Using a number of
recent qubit control and hardware advances [7-13], here we demonstrate a
nine-quantum-element solid-state QuP and show three experiments to highlight
its capabilities. We begin by characterizing the device with spectroscopy.
Next, we produces coherent interactions between five qubits and verify bi- and
tripartite entanglement via quantum state tomography (QST) [8, 12, 14, 15]. In
the final experiment, we run a three-qubit compiled version of Shor's algorithm
to factor the number 15, and successfully find the prime factors 48% of the
time. Improvements in the superconducting qubit coherence times and more
complex circuits should provide the resources necessary to factor larger
composite numbers and run more intricate quantum algorithms.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
clínicamente inevitable (37%), infección nosocomial (15%), proceso no relacionado a episodios anteriores
Spatial Mapping and Modeling of Reported Dengue Incidences in Luzon
Dengue, the most rapidly spreading mosquito-borne viral infection, has significantly spread worldwide in recent decades - flourishing both in affluent and impoverished locations of tropical and subtropical countries. In 2012, the Philippines ranked fourth out of the ten Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries in having the highest number of dengue cases. The following study intends to analyze the spatial distribution of dengue incidences across all Luzon provinces in 2018. It aims to determine significant correlates that affect dengue incidences, map the incidence rate of dengue cases, and explore the clustering of recorded dengue cases. Poisson and Negative Binomial (NB) regression analyses and Multiple Linear Regression Models (MLRM) were applied to determine the significant correlations affecting dengue incidence rates. Simultaneously, spatial mapping was utilized to visualize and detect clustering in the provinces through dengue count, incidence ratios, and standard incidence ratios (SIR). MLRM and NB showed that rainfall and poverty incidence are significant correlates of dengue counts and incidence, and Nueva Ecija and Tarlac were observed to be provinces with distinct dengue count and SIR greater than 1, as well as provinces found in clusters. With the provided results, health organizations can provide health programs and allocate more funds in areas with SIR greater than 1 to prevent dengue spreading
