Comment on ``Intermittent Synchronization in a Pair of Coupled Chaotic Pendula"
The main aim of this comment is to emphasize that the conditional Lyapunov
exponents play an important role in distinguishing between intermittent and
persistent synchronization, when the analytic criteria for asymptotic stability
are not uniformly obeyed.Comment: 2 pages, RevTeX 4, 1 EPS figur
Treatment of multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis in children: The role of bedaquiline and delamanid
Multidrug-resistant (MDR) tuberculosis (TB) has been emerging at an alarming rate over the last few years. It has been estimated that about 3% of all pediatric TB is MDR, meaning about 30,000 cases each year. Although most children with MDR-TB can be successfully treated, up to five years ago effective treatment was associated with a high incidence of severe adverse effects and patients with extensively drug-resistant (XDR) TB had limited treatment options and no standard regimen. The main objective of this manuscript is to discuss our present knowledge of the management of MDR-and XDR-TB in children, focusing on the characteristics and available evidence on the use of two promising new drugs: bedaquiline and delamanid. PubMed was used to search for all of the studies published up to November 2020 using key words such as “bedaquiline” and “delamanid” and “children” and “multidrug-resistant tuberculosis” and “extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis”. The search was limited to articles published in English and providing evidence-based data. Although data on pediatric population are limited and more studies are needed to confirm the efficacy and safety of bedaquiline and delamanid, their use in children with MDR-TB/XDR-TB appears to have good tolerability and efficacy. However, more evidence on these new anti-TB drugs is needed to better guide their use in children in order to design effective shorter regimens and reduce adverse effects, drug interactions, and therapeutic failure
Development in Web-based Laboratory Sessions
The laboratory experiments can help the undergraduate students to gain a better understanding the theoretical problem. This paper proposes an educational tool made up a user-friendly interface controlling experimental boards and instrumentation device with a new approach based on FieldPointTM module and the web publishing tool of the LabVIEW. The proposed system allows students to improve their knowledge in the field of optical sensing devices, virtual instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and signal processing
Intermittent generalized synchronization in unidirectionally coupled chaotic oscillators
A new behavior type of unidirectionally coupled chaotic oscillators near the
generalized synchronization transition has been detected. It has been shown
that the generalized synchronization appearance is preceded by the intermitted
behavior: close to threshold parameter value the coupled chaotic systems
demonstrate the generalized synchronization most of the time, but there are
time intervals during which the synchronized oscillations are interrupted by
non-synchronous bursts. This type of the system behavior has been called
intermitted generalized synchronization (IGS) by analogy with intermitted lag
synchronization (ILS) [Phys. Rev. E \textbf{62}, 7497 (2000)].Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, using epl.cls; published in Europhysics Letters.

Plankton lattices and the role of chaos in plankton patchiness
Spatiotemporal and interspecies irregularities in planktonic populations have been widely observed. Much research into the drivers of such plankton patches has been initiated over the past few decades but only recently have the dynamics of the interacting patches themselves been considered. We take a coupled lattice approach to model continuous-in-time plankton patch dynamics, as opposed to the more common continuum type reaction-diffusion-advection model, because it potentially offers a broader scope of application and numerical study with relative ease. We show that nonsynchronous plankton patch dynamics (the discrete analog of spatiotemporal irregularity) arise quite naturally for patches whose underlying dynamics are chaotic. However, we also observe that for parameters in a neighborhood of the chaotic regime, smooth generalized synchronization of nonidentical patches is more readily supported which reduces the incidence of distinct patchiness. We demonstrate that simply associating the coupling strength with measurements of (effective) turbulent diffusivity results in a realistic critical length of the order of 100 km, above which one would expect to observe unsynchronized behavior. It is likely that this estimate of critical length may be reduced by a more exact interpretation of coupling in turbulent flows
The LAUE project for broadband gamma-ray focusing lenses
We present the LAUE project devoted to develop an advanced technology for
building a high focal length Laue lens for soft gamma--ray astronomy (80-600
keV). The final goal is to develop a focusing optics that can improve the
current sensitivity in the above energy band by 2 orders of magnitude.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, presented at the SPIE conference on "Optics for

Synchronization of Coupled Systems with Spatiotemporal Chaos
We argue that the synchronization transition of stochastically coupled
cellular automata, discovered recently by L.G. Morelli {\it et al.} (Phys. Rev.
{\bf 58 E}, R8 (1998)), is generically in the directed percolation universality
class. In particular, this holds numerically for the specific example studied
by these authors, in contrast to their claim. For real-valued systems with
spatiotemporal chaos such as coupled map lattices, we claim that the
synchronization transition is generically in the universality class of the
Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation with a nonlinear growth limiting term.Comment: 4 pages, including 3 figures; submitted to Phys. Rev.
