Inherited Agglomeration Effects in Hedge Fund Spawns
This paper studies inherited agglomeration effects, which we define as human capital that managers acquire while working in an industry hub that may be transferred to a spinoff. We test for inherited agglomeration effects in the hedge fund industry and find that hedge fund managers who previously worked in New York and London outperform their peers by about one percent per year. The results are driven by managers who worked in investment management positions previously, and are at least as large as traditional agglomeration effects that arise from being located in an industry hub contemporaneously. The evidence suggests that inherited agglomeration effects are an important, but as yet overlooked, factor influencing the performance of new firms
Formation of Ultracold Heteronuclear Dimers in Electric Fields
The formation of ultracold molecules via stimulated emission followed by a
radiative deexcitation cascade in the presence of a static electric field is
investigated. By analyzing the corresponding cross sections, we demonstrate the
possibility to populate the lowest rotational excitations via photoassociation.
The modification of the radiative cascade due to the electric field leads to
narrow rotational state distributions in the vibrational ground state. External
fields might therefore represent an additional valuable tool towards the
ultimate goal of quantum state preparation of molecules
Chandra Observations of the Dwarf Nova WX Hyi in Quiescence
We report Chandra observations of the dwarf nova WX Hyi in quiescence. The
X-ray spectrum displays strong and narrow emission lines of N, O, Mg, Ne, Si, S
and Fe. The various ionization states implied by the lines suggest that the
emission is produced within a flow spanning a wide temperature range, from T ~
10^6 K to T >~ 10^8 K. Line diagnostics indicate that most of the radiation
originates from a very dense region, with n ~ 10^{13}-10^{14} cm^{-3}. The
Chandra data allow the first tests of specific models proposed in the
literature for the X-ray emission in quiescent dwarf novae. We have computed
the spectra for a set of models ranging from hot boundary layers, to hot
settling flows solutions, to X-ray emitting coronae. WX Hyi differs from other
dwarf novae observed at minimum in having much stronger low temperature lines,
which prove difficult to fit with existing models, and possibly a very strong,
broad O VII line, perhaps produced in a wind moving at a few x 10^3 km/s. The
accretion rate inferred from the X-rays is lower than the value inferred from
the UV. The presence of high-velocity mass ejection could account for this
discrepancy while at the same time explaining the presence of the broad O VII
line. If this interpretation is correct, it would provide the first detection

First Light Measurements with the XMM-Newton Reflection Grating Spectrometers: Evidence for an Inverse First Ionisation Potential Effect and Anomalous Ne A bundance in the Coronae of HR 1099
The RS CVn binary system HR 1099 was extensively observed by the XMM-Newton
observatory in February 2000 as its first-light target. A total of 570 ks of
exposure time was accumulated with the Reflection Grating Spectrometers (RGS).
The integrated X-ray spectrum between 5-35 Angstrom is of unprecedented quality
and shows numerous features attributed to transitions of the elements C, N, O,
Ne, Mg, Si, S, Fe, and Ni. We perform an in-depth study of the elemental
composition of the average corona of this system, and find that the elemental
abundances strongly depend on the first ionisation potential (FIP) of the
elements. But different from the solar coronal case, we find an inverse FIP
effect, i.e., the abundances (relative to oxygen) increase with increasing FIP.
Possible scenarios, e.g., selective enrichment due to Ne-rich flare-like

High loading of polygenic risk for ADHD in children with comorbid aggression
Objective: Although attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is highly heritable, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have not yet identified any common genetic variants that contribute to risk. There is evidence that aggression or conduct disorder in children with ADHD indexes higher genetic loading and clinical severity. The authors examine whether common genetic variants considered en masse as polygenic scores for ADHD are especially enriched in children with comorbid conduct disorder.
Method: Polygenic scores derived from an ADHD GWAS meta-analysis were calculated in an independent ADHD sample (452 case subjects, 5,081 comparison subjects). Multivariate logistic regression analyses were employed to compare polygenic scores in the ADHD and comparison groups and test for higher scores in ADHD case subjects with comorbid conduct disorder relative to comparison subjects and relative to those without comorbid conduct disorder. Association with symptom scores was tested using linear regression.
Results: Polygenic risk for ADD, derived from the meta-analysis, was higher in the independent ADHD group than in the comparison group. Polygenic score was significantly higher in ADHD case subjects with conduct disorder relative to ADHD case subjects without conduct disorder. ADHD polygenic score showed significant association with comorbid conduct disorder symptoms. This relationship was explained by,the aggression items.
Conclusions: Common genetic variation is relevant to ADHD, especially in individuals with comorbid aggression. The findings suggest that the previously published ADHD GWAS meta-analysis contains weak but true associations with common variants, support for which falls below genome-wide significance levels. The findings also highlight the fact that aggression in ADHD indexes genetic as well as clinical severity
The Survey for Ionization in Neutral Gas Galaxies- II. The Star Formation Rate Density of the Local Universe
We derive observed Halpha and R band luminosity densities of an HI-selected
sample of nearby galaxies using the SINGG sample to be l_Halpha' = (9.4 +/-
1.8)e38 h_70 erg s^-1 Mpc^-3 for Halpha and l_R' = (4.4 +/- 0.7)e37 h_70 erg
s^-1 A^-1 Mpc^-3 in the R band. This R band luminosity density is approximately
70% of that found by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. This leads to a local star
formation rate density of log(SFRD) = -1.80 +0.13/-0.07(random) +/-
0.03(systematic) + log(h_70) after applying a mean internal extinction
correction of 0.82 magnitudes. The gas cycling time of this sample is found to
be t_gas = 7.5 +1.3/-2.1 Gyr, and the volume-averaged equivalent width of the
SINGG galaxies is EW(Halpha) = 28.8 +7.2/-4.7 A (21.2 +4.2/-3.5 A without
internal dust correction). As with similar surveys, these results imply that
SFRD(z) decreases drastically from z ~ 1.5 to the present. A comparison of the
dynamical masses of the SINGG galaxies evaluated at their optical limits with
their stellar and HI masses shows significant evidence of downsizing: the most
massive galaxies have a larger fraction of their mass locked up in stars
compared with HI, while the opposite is true for less massive galaxies. We show
that the application of the Kennicutt star formation law to a galaxy having the
median orbital time at the optical limit of this sample results in a star
formation rate decay with cosmic time similar to that given by the SFRD(z)
evolution. This implies that the SFRD(z) evolution is primarily due to the
secular evolution of galaxies, rather than interactions or mergers. This is

The Survey for Ionization in Neutral Gas Galaxies: I. Description and Initial Results
We introduce the Survey for Ionization in Neutral Gas Galaxies (SINGG), a
census of star formation in HI-selected galaxies. The survey consists of
H-alpha and R-band imaging of a sample of 468 galaxies selected from the HI
Parkes All Sky Survey (HIPASS). The sample spans three decades in HI mass and
is free of many of the biases that affect other star forming galaxy samples. We
present the criteria for sample selection, list the entire sample, discuss our
observational techniques, and describe the data reduction and calibration
methods. This paper focuses on 93 SINGG targets whose observations have been
fully reduced and analyzed to date. The majority of these show a single
Emission Line Galaxy (ELG). We see multiple ELGs in 13 fields, with up to four
ELGs in a single field. All of the targets in this sample are detected in
H-alpha indicating that dormant (non-star forming) galaxies with M(HI) > ~3e7
M_sun are very rare. A database of the measured global properties of the ELGs
is presented. The ELG sample spans four orders of magnitude in luminosity
(H-alpha and R-band), and H-alpha surface brightness, nearly three orders of
magnitude in R surface brightness and nearly two orders of magnitude in H-alpha
equivalent width (EW). The surface brightness distribution of our sample is
broader than that of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey spectroscopic sample, the
(EW) distribution is broader than prism-selected samples, and the morphologies
found include all common types of star forming galaxies (e.g. irregular,
spiral, blue compact dwarf, starbursts, merging and colliding systems, and even

LegumeIP: an integrative database for comparative genomics and transcriptomics of model legumes
Legumes play a vital role in maintaining the nitrogen cycle of the biosphere. They conduct symbiotic nitrogen fixation through endosymbiotic relationships with bacteria in root nodules. However, this and other characteristics of legumes, including mycorrhization, compound leaf development and profuse secondary metabolism, are absent in the typical model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. We present LegumeIP (http://plantgrn.noble.org/LegumeIP/), an integrative database for comparative genomics and transcriptomics of model legumes, for studying gene function and genome evolution in legumes. LegumeIP compiles gene and gene family information, syntenic and phylogenetic context and tissue-specific transcriptomic profiles. The database holds the genomic sequences of three model legumes, Medicago truncatula, Glycine max and Lotus japonicus plus two reference plant species, A. thaliana and Populus trichocarpa, with annotations based on UniProt, InterProScan, Gene Ontology and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes databases. LegumeIP also contains large-scale microarray and RNA-Seq-based gene expression data. Our new database is capable of systematic synteny analysis across M. truncatula, G. max, L. japonicas and A. thaliana, as well as construction and phylogenetic analysis of gene families across the five hosted species. Finally, LegumeIP provides comprehensive search and visualization tools that enable flexible queries based on gene annotation, gene family, synteny and relative gene expression

Interpretation of ambiguous situations: evidence for a dissociation between social and physical threat in Williams syndrome
There is increasing evidence that Williams syndrome (WS) is associated with elevated anxiety that is non-social in nature, including generalised anxiety and fears. To date very little research has examined the cognitive processes associated with this anxiety. In the present research, attentional bias for non-social threatening images in WS was examined using a dot-probe paradigm. Participants were 16 individuals with WS aged between 13 and 34 years and two groups of typically developing controls matched to the WS group on chronological age and attentional control ability respectively. The WS group exhibited a significant attention bias towards threatening images. In contrast, no bias was found for group matched on attentional control and a slight bias away from threat was found in the chronological age matched group. The results are contrasted with recent findings suggesting that individuals with WS do not show an attention bias for threatening faces and discussed in relation to neuroimaging research showing elevated amygdala activation in response to threatening non-social scenes in WS
