    A Paradigmatic and Methodological Examination of Market Orientation Research

    Research on market orientation has evolved for more than two decades, and is now ripe for reflection on its paradigmatic and methodological moorings. We review market orientation research to understand research paradigms adopted in the studies using an operations research paradigm framework, and compare and contrast methodologies and research designs used in the literature. This study used the citation pearl-growing method to identify and review 137 studies on market orientation. The study finds a dominance of the positivist paradigm in the extant research, particularly in the North American journals. There have only been a few interpretive studies on market orientation in the past two decades. This study makes a case for methodological pluralism in the research on market orientation. The findings will benefit academia and practitioners in understanding the past research trends and identify potential future research areas. The review adds value to the literature in terms of presenting an overview of market orientation research, where the research field stands today, and where it is heading in the future

    Short-term progression of optic disc and macular changes in optic nerve head drusen

    Purpose: To quantify in patients with optic nerve head drusen (ONHD)changes after 1-year observation in: (i) optic disc and (ii) macular optical coherence tomography (OCT) parameters and (iii) the effect of age at enrolment in the study. Design: Prospective, cross-sectional observational study using Spectral Domain-OCT (Copernicus; OPTOPOL Technology S.A., Zawiercie, Poland) imaging was carried out in 35 patients with ONHD (age–42.8 ± 19.9 years; males = 15; females = 20) at baseline and after 12 months follow-up. Results: Patients with ONHD had significant thinning of the surface nerve fibre layer in the central (p = 0.03), superior (p = 0.05) and inferior (p = 0.04) areas; mean ppRNFL thinning (p = 0.0 4) and ppRNFL thinning in the nasal segment (p = 0.028). Retinal thinning in the central (p = 0.001), inner (p = 0.01) and outer (p = 0.002) temporal, outer superior (p = 0.03) and inferior (p = 0.02) areas; borderline ganglion cell layer thinning (p = 0.051) and outer nuclear layer (p = 0.03) thinning in the central retina and outer segment layer thinning nasally (p = 0.01) between the first and the second visit in macula. Correlation of the difference in optic disc and macular parameters with the age at enrolment did not reveal any significance. Conclusions: Statistically detectable thinning of the optic nerve and macula structures occurred already after 12 months. The proximity of optic nerve changes to the vascular arcades can possibly be explained by involvement of retinal vessels in the pathophysiology of ONHD

    Schools’ air quality monitoring for health and education: methods and protocols of the SAMHE initiative and project

    Background: Children spend significant amounts of time at school, making the school environment a potentially important contributor to air quality exposure.  Aim: The SAMHE initiative has a dual aim: 1) to develop and test a bespoke citizen science framework for collecting environment and indoor air quality data in classrooms, alongside contextual data capable of enriching analysis, at an unprecedented scale; and, 2) to simultaneously use these methods to raise awareness among communities regarding their exposure to air pollution in the school environment.  Methodology: To achieve this dual aim, the SAMHE project was initiated to deploy more than 2 000 low-cost indoor air quality monitors in school classrooms. A Web App has been co-designed with schools to support collecting a large comprehensive dataset (including school buildings characteristics, operation, and behavioural patterns) and to enable students and teachers to interact with the data gathered in their school. Results and outlook: We present the design of the interface and visuals that have been co-designed with 20+ schools and tested with 120+ schools. Within one week of the SAMHE launch week, 537 schools had registered to join the project, and at the time of writing (just seven weeks later) this number had grown to around 800 schools. This highlights the potential for this novel initiative to provide a step-change in the way that indoor air quality datasets are gathered at a national and, potentially, international level while simultaneously enabling schools to better manage their indoor environment and empowering students and teachers to reduce their environmental health risks.</p

    Time domain astronomy with the THESEUS satellite

    THESEUS is a medium size space mission of the European Space Agency, currently under evaluation for a possible launch in 2032. Its main objectives are to investigate the early Universe through the observation of gamma-ray bursts and to study the gravitational waves electromagnetic counterparts and neutrino events. On the other hand, its instruments, which include a wide field of view X-ray (0.3-5 keV) telescope based on lobster-eye focussing optics and a gamma-ray spectrometer with imaging capabilities in the 2-150 keV range, are also ideal for carrying out unprecedented studies in time domain astrophysics. In addition, the presence onboard of a 70 cm near infrared telescope will allow simultaneous multiwavelegth studies.
