Current and future perspectives of positronium and muonium spectroscopy as dark sectors probe

    Get PDF
Positronium and Muonium are purely leptonic atoms and hence free of an internal sub-structure. This qualifies them as potentially well suited systems to probe the existence of physics beyond the Standard Model. We hence carry out a comprehensive study of the sensitivity of current Positronium and Muonium precision spectroscopy to several new physics scenarios. By taking properly into account existing experimental and astrophysical probes, we define clear experimental targets to probe new physics via precise spectroscopy. For Positronium we find that, in order for the spectroscopy bounds to reach a sensitivity comparable to the electron gyromagnetic factor, an improvement of roughly five orders of magnitude from state-of-the-art precision is required, which would be a challenge based on current technology. More promising is instead the potential reach of Muonium spectroscopy: in the next few years experiments like Mu-MASS at PSI will probe new regions of the parameter space testing the existence of medium/short range (MeV and above) spin-dependent and spin-independent dark forces between electrons and muons.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures. Quantity v/s quality of scientific publications: an analysis for main cities of Spain (2001-2007)

Since the last quarter of the 20th century, most of the world population has experimented an important process of globalization, mainly due to; the accelerated knowledge production, the increase of intangible capital on a macroeconomic scale, the increase in levels of innovation, and the ICT revolution that have democratized access to information and knowledge dissemination. This new economic base, located in cities, is supported on knowledge and information as sources of production and competitiveness. The number of scientific publications on indexed journals is a scale, often used to measure the degree of strength of the scientific sector of a particular place. But this scale ignores the quality of the counted works, i.e. the impact they have generated in the scientific world. This work seeks to highlight the dynamics of scientific production in Spain. Specifically, it aims to analyze the quantity and quality of scientific publications in the period between 2001 and 2007. For this analysis, the quantity is measured by the number of scientific papers published by researchers from a city and the quality by the number of times that works signed by scientists from a city, have been cited by researchers around the world. In this study we establish a bibliometric analysis based on: 1) the number of scientific contributions to municipalities of more than 30,000 people whose information is derived from the SCI-E and 2) the number of citations for the top 10 cities with information derived from Scopus. Finally, we contrast the results of the more representatives cities, with the aim of clarify the relationship between the quantity and quality between quantity and quality of the scientific publication. The results suggest a concentration of quantity and quality of the scientific production in the Spanish metropolitan areas. However, we can provide that ranking who have the main cities in the context of national scientific publication is not similar for both parameters.

A methodology for agile software development in a financial company

This article presents an alternative to improve the development process of a company that does not currently use a methodology for development software projects, which has led to delays in deliveries, poor quality of finished products and work overload for some employees. Methodologies to improve are development methodologies that have been proven as successful in development of this kind of projects and allow accomplishing customer requirements both in quality and time, maximizing the resources of the company

Applying MDE tools to defining domain specific languages for model management

    Get PDF
In the model driven engineering (MDE), modeling languages play a central role. They range from the most generic languages such as UML, to more individual ones, called domain-specific modeling languages (DSML). These languages are used to create and manage models and must accompany them throughout their life cycle and evolution. In this paper we propose a domain-specific language for model management, to facilitate the user's task, developed with techniques and tools used in the MDE paradigm.Fil: Pérez, Gabriela. Stopping Criterion for the Mean Shift Iterative Algorithm

Image segmentation is a critical step in computer vision tasks constituting an essential issue for pattern recognition and visual interpretation. In this paper, we propose a new stopping criterion for the mean shift iterative algorithm by using images defined in Zn ring, with the goal of reaching a better segmentation. We carried out also a study on the weak and strong of equivalence classes between two images. An analysis on the convergence with this new stopping criterion is carried out too.Comment: Have 8 pages. Competencias presentes en la formación inicial de profesores de matemáticas. Un estudio desde el currículum oficial

    Get PDF

Potential of a sunflower seed by-product as animal fat replacer in healthier Frankfurters

    Get PDF
Upcycled defatted sunflower seed flour (SUN), a by-product obtained from sunflower oil extraction, was used as an animal fat replacer to develop healthier frankfurters. For that end, animal fat was replaced (~50%) with water and 2% or 4% of SUN. Nutritional composition, technological, structural and sensorial properties were evaluated. SUN incorporation led to a significant increase in protein, minerals (magnesium, potassium, copper and manganese) and a decrease in fat content (~37% less than control with all animal fat). The incorporation of SUN in frankfurters promoted the presence of phenolic compounds. Increasing SUN addition lead to an increasingly (p < 0.05) darker frankfurter colour. Samples with SUN at 4% were firmer than the control according to TPA and sensory analysis results and showed the highest lipid disorder attributed to more lipid interactions in the meat matrix. SUN addition as an animal fat replacer in frankfurters is a feasible strategy to valorise sunflower oil by-products and obtain healthier frankfurters
