Bifurcation analysis based on a material model with stress-rate dependency and non-associated flow rule for fracture prediction in metal forming
Recent increasing application of advanced high-strength metals causes grow-ing demand for accurate fracture prediction in metal forming simulation. However, since the construction of objective and reliable fracture prediction method is generally difficult, essential progress in fundamental theory that supports evolution of fracture rediction framework is required.
In this study, a fracture prediction framework based on the bifurcation theory is pre- sented. The main achievement is a novel material model based on stress-rate dependency related with non-associate flow rule. This model is based on non-associated flow rule with independent arbitrary higher-order yield function and plastic potential function for any anisotropic materials. And this formulation is combined with the stress-rate depen- dency plastic constitutive equation, which is known as Ito-Goya model, to construct a generalized plastic constitutive model in which non-normality and non-associativity are reasonably considered. Then, by adopting the three-dimensional bifurcation theory, which is known as the 3D localized bifurcation theory, more accurate prediction of the initiation of shear band is realized, leading to general and reliable construction of forming limit dia- gram. Then, by using virtual material data, numerical simulation is carried out to exhibit fracture limit diagram for demonstrating the generality and reliability of the proposed methodology. In particular, the effect of stress-rate dependency on the bifurcation analy- sis is investigated, and the order of the yield function is used to investigate the influence on the forming limit prediction
Practical study on a new type Buckling-Restrained-Brace
p. 303-311A number of a new type Buckling-Restrained-Brace (T-BRB) using steel mortar planks
have been applied to various structures (spatial structures, steel bridges and steel towers) as well as multi-story buildings. The brace has two buckling restraining parts (steel mortar planks), clipping a core plate being under axial forces. These parts are welded together and restrain the core plate of plastic behavior, avoiding the out-of-plane deformation and the buckling. The size of steel mortar plank can be designed corresponding to energy absorption demands, irrespectively the sizes of both end-connections. This paper introduces the applications of a new type BRB to various structures.Oya, T.; Fukasawa, T.; Fujiwara, M.; Kuroiwa, Y.; Arai, J. (2009). DISPENSABLE ROLE OF AIRE IN cDCs
Aire, the defect of which is responsible for the development of autoimmunity, is predominantly expressed in medullary thymic epithelial cells, and it controls a wide variety of genes, including those of tissue-restricted Ags, for establishing thymic tolerance. Aire is also expressed from APCs in the periphery, called extrathymic Aire-expressing cells (eTACs), and their complementing role to thymic tolerance has been suggested. eTACs are composed of two distinct classes of APCs, conventional dendritic cell (cDC)–type and group 3 innate lymphoid cell (ILC3)-like–type expressing retinoic acid receptor–related orphan receptor γt (RORγt). Although the essential role of Aire in the latter in the Th17-mediated immune response against Candida albicans has been reported, the role of Aire in the cDC-type eTACs for this action has not been examined. Furthermore, the significance of Aire in the production of the transcriptome of the cDC-type eTACs remains unknown. We have approached these issues using a high-fidelity Aire-reporter mouse strain. We found that although the cDC-type eTACs dominated ILC3-like–type eTACs in number and they served as efficient APCs for the immune response against an exogenous Ag as well as for the C. albicans–specific Th17 immune response, loss of Aire in cDC-type eTACs showed no clear effect on these functions. Furthermore, loss of Aire showed no major impact on the transcriptome from cDC-type eTACs. These results suggested that Aire in cDC-type eTACs may not have a cell-intrinsic role in the immune response in contrast to the role of Aire in ILC3-like–type eTACs
Sunitinib Versus Sorafenib as Initial Targeted Therapy for mCC-RCC With Favorable/Intermediate Risk: Multicenter Randomized Trial CROSS-J-RCC
Purpose: The present study compared the efficacy of sunitinib and sorafenib as first-line treatment of metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma (mCC-RCC) with favorable or intermediate Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) risk.
Patients and methods: Treatment-naive patients with mCC-RCC were randomized to receive open-label sunitinib followed by sorafenib (SU/SO) or sorafenib followed by sunitinib (SO/SU). The primary endpoint was first-line progression-free survival (PFS). The secondary endpoints were total PFS and overall survival (OS).
Results: Of the 124 patients enrolled at 39 institutions from February 2010 to July 2012, 120 were evaluated. The median first-line PFS duration was 8.7 and 7.0 months in the SU/SO and SO/SU groups, respectively (hazard ratio [HR], 0.67; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.42-1.08). The total PFS and OS were not significantly different between the SU/SO and SO/SU groups (27.8 and 22.6 months; HR, 0.73; 95% CI, 0.428-1.246; and 38.4 and 30.9 months; HR, 0.934; 95% CI, 0.588-1.485, respectively). The subgroup analysis revealed that the total PFS with SU/SO was superior to the total PFS with SO/SU in the patients with favorable MSKCC risk and those with
Conclusions: No statistically significant differences were found in first-line PFS, total PFS, or OS between the 2 treatment arms (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier, NCT01481870)
Hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy for acoustic neuromas: safety and effectiveness over 8 years of experience.
Little information is available about long-term outcomes of hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (hypo-FSRT) for acoustic neuromas. In this study, the safety and effectiveness of hypo-FSRT for unilateral acoustic neuroma were reviewed over 8 years of experience at our institution
The radiosensitizing effect of doranidazole on human colorectal cancer cells exposed to high doses of irradiation
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>This paper investigates the effects of a new radiosensitizer, doranidazole, and enhancing irradiation on colorectal cancer cells.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The radiosensitizing effect of doranidazole was determined using colony formation and propidium iodide (PI) assays to measure cell growth inhibition and the cell killing effect of human colorectal cancer cell lines exposed to high doses of γ-ray irradiation under hypoxic conditions <it>in vitro</it>. Fluorescence staining and cell migration assays were also used to assess the radiosensitizing effect.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Cell proliferation evaluated by clonogenic survival curves was significantly inhibited by 5 mmol/L doranidazole, particularly at doses ranging from 10 to 30 Gy of irradiation. The radiosensitizing effect of doranidazole on colorectal cancer cells occurs in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Doranidazole also inhibited the mobility of cell invasion and migration.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Doranidazole can enhance the killing effect and the cell growth inhibition of colorectal cancer after high-dose irradiation in a time and dose-dependent manner.</p
