    Get PDF

HSI-MSER: Hyperspectral Image Registration Algorithm based on MSER and SIFT

    Get PDF
Image alignment is an essential task in many applications of hyperspectral remote sensing images. Before any processing, the images must be registered. The Maximally Stable Extremal Regions (MSER) is a feature detection algorithm which extracts regions by thresholding the image at different grey levels. These extremal regions are invariant to image transformations making them ideal for registration. The Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) is a well-known keypoint detector and descriptor based on the construction of a Gaussian scale-space. This article presents a hyperspectral remote sensing image registration method based on MSER for feature detection and SIFT for feature description. It efficiently exploits the information contained in the different spectral bands to improve the image alignment. The experimental results over nine hyperspectral images show that the proposed method achieves a higher number of correct registration cases using less computational resources than other hyperspectral registration methods. Results are evaluated in terms of accuracy of the registration and also in terms of execution timeMinisterio de Ciencia e Innovación, Government of Spain PID2019-104834GB-I00; Consellería de Cultura, Educación e Universidade (Grant Number: ED431C 2018/19 and 2019-2022 ED431G-2019/04); Junta de Castilla y León under Project VA226P20; 10.13039/501100008530-European Regional Development Fund; Ministerio de Universidades, Government of Spain (Grant Number: FPU16/03537)S

Influence of the sputtering flow regime on the structural properties and magnetic behavior of Fe-Ga thin films (Ga ∼ 30 at.%)

In this paper we analyze the structure of Fe-Ga layers with a Ga content of ∼30 at.% deposited by the sputtering technique under two different regimes. We also studied the correlation between the structure and magnetic behavior of the samples. Keeping the Ar pressure fixed, we modified the flow regime from ballistic to diffusive by increasing the distance between the target and the substrate. X-ray diffraction measurements have shown a lower structural quality when growing in the diffusive flow. We investigated the impact of the growth regime by means of x-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) measurements and obtained signs of its influence on the local atomic order. Full multiple scattering and finite difference calculations based on XAFS measurements point to a more relevant presence of a disordered A2 phase and of orthorhombic Ga clusters on the Fe-Ga alloy deposited under a diffusive regime; however, in the ballistic sample, a higher presence of D0_3/B2 phases is evidenced. Structural characteristics, from local to long range, seem to determine the magnetic behavior of the layers. Whereas a clear in-plane magnetic anisotropy is observed in the film deposited under ballistic flow, the diffusive sample is magnetically isotropic. Therefore, our experimental results provide evidence of a correlation between flow regime and structural properties and its impact on the magnetic behavior of a rather unexplored compositional region of Fe-Ga compounds

The aesthetical perception of a beach as a recreational place is closely linked to the sand color. This is one of the most perceptible characteristics of a beach. Sand color can be altered after a nourishment work. This type of works is becoming more and more popular since they represent a good tool for preserving beaches from erosion. However, only little (or none) attention has been paid to sand color during nourishment works. Colors of the sands from the Belgian coast were determined in the Cielab space, together with their granulometry and composition. Color coordinates range between 50 and 60 for L*, 0.5 to 4.0 for a*, and 10.5 to 16.5 for b*. The composition shows a dominant quartz fraction, followed by shell fragments and finally rock fragments. Granulometry is rather homogeneous, being the grain distribution for the east part of the coast narrower than for the west coast. This work describes the methodology for performing colorimetric analysis in sand beaches before a nourishment work, together with the main acceptance criteria when choosing the appropriate sand for replacement

Registration is a fundamental previous task in many applications of hyperspectrometry. Most of the algorithms developed are designed to work with RGB images and ignore the execution time. This paper presents a phase correlation algorithm on GPU to register two remote sensing hyperspectral images. The proposed algorithm is based on principal component analysis, multilayer fractional Fourier transform, combination of log-polar maps, and peak processing. It is fully developed in CUDA for NVIDIA GPUs. Different techniques such as the efficient use of the memory hierarchy, the use of CUDA libraries, and the maximization of the occupancy have been applied to reach the best performance on GPU. The algorithm is robust achieving speedups in GPU of up to 240.6×This work was supported in part by the Consellería de Cultura, Educacion e Ordenación Universitaria under Grant GRC2014/008 and Grant ED431G/08 and in part by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, Government of Spain under Grant TIN2013-41129-P and Grant TIN2016-76373-P. Surf-Based Registration for Hyperspectral Images

The alignment of images, also known as registration, is a relevant task in the processing of hyperspectral images. Among the feature-based registration methods, Speeded Up Robust Features (SURF) has been proposed as a computationally efficient approach. In this paper HSI–SURF is proposed. This is a method to register hyperspectral remote sensing images based on SURF that takes advantage of the full spectral information of the images. In this sense, the proposed method selects specific bands of the images and adapts the keypoint descriptor and the matching stages to benefit from the spectral information, thus increasing the effectiveness of the registration. This work was supported in part by the Consellería de Educación, Universidade e Formación Profesional [grant numbers GRC2014/008, ED431C 2018/19, and ED431G/08] and Ministerio de Economía y Empresa, Government of Spain [grant number TIN2016-76373-P] and by Junta de Castilla y Leon - ERDF (PROPHET Project) [grant number VA082P17].
