Good internal communication increases productivity

Internal communication has become an important factor in today's business world. The increased use of electronic media can, despite their obvious advantages, cause communication problems, i.e. information overload. By avoiding communication problems, the productivity of a company can be increased. The relation between internal communication and productivity has been subject of a number of surveys. Although different survey approaches have been used, all found that there is a positive impact of communication on productivity. Since different communication dimensions have a different impact on an employee's perceived productivity, effective and efficient internal communication has to be managed, therefore, in accordance with the situation of each company and its employees. -- In der heutigen Geschäftswelt gewinnt interne Kommunikation als Wettbewerbsfaktor eine zunehmende Bedeutung. Die vermehrte Anwendung von elektronischen Medien kann jedoch trotz ihrer Vorteile auch zu Kommunikationsproblemen, speziell zu Informationsflut, führen. Indem Kommunikationsprobleme vermieden werden, ist es möglich im Unternehmen die Produktivität zu erhöhen. Dieser Zusammenhang ist Gegenstand verschiedenster Studien, die trotz unterschiedlicher Ansätze alle einen positiven Einfluss von Kommunikation auf die Produktivität herausstellten. Aufgrund verschiedener Stellencharaktere und der damit verbundenen Nutzen bestimmter Informationen, beeinflussen vielfache Arten von Kommunikation die Produktivität von Angestellten unterschiedlich. Ebenso sind Unterschiede zwischen den Angestellten und verschiedenen Unternehmenstypologien zu verzeichnen. Hypothesizing about Reading Recovery

Professor Opitz\u27s article is one of two in this special issue not written by a Reading Recovery trained teacher. The author has examined the literature on Reading Recovery and attempted to puzzle out the reason(s) for its success. Trained Reading Recovery teachers will find both points of agreement and disagreement, and many points on which to establish a discussion. Opitz writes, ...we do not, I believe, know why the program works. Yet as Clay suggests in this issue, answers are learned in the year-long and continuing contact training sessions. Our understanding of why the program works does not come from information or research alone, but from reflec tive practice. Reading Recovery teachers continue to re flect on their learning and practice, and implicit in the whole Reading Recovery process is ongoing research and evaluation. We have chosen the article because it reflects questions raised by those who have searched the literature on Reading Recovery and are contemplat ing involvement in the program. Professor Opitz\u27s hy pothesizing is based on wide reading in the literature about Reading Recovery, and should generate many powerful questions for the dialogue between trained Reading Recovery personnel and educators considering program implementation

The Song in the Tower of Academia

This essay discusses the emergence of the song and the album as significant modern genres. It also follows my experiences of writing and playing songs while seeking to combine critical theory, personal essay, song-writing, music production, and on-line publishing. I have been working toward a form of writing that theorist Walter Benjamin calls “montage practice.” My work is similar to hyper-text prose, and combines recorded original songs with prose writing, photography, and video clips to make an illustrated poetry/ music/ essay form that expands our traditional understanding of genre to include the song and its amplification through the internet. Advances in computer technology and internet accessibility make this possible. My ongoing project has grown in collaboration with a group of musicians, The Karma Refugees, who get together to write and record songs. It has developed into a website where my study of poetry, personal essay, critical theory, and cultural theory meet. This article will include recorded music performance and visual montage

Final Design Report for Human Powered Vehicle Drivetrain Project

The Cal Poly Human Powered Vehicle Club is building a bike to surpass 61.3 mph in 2019. The club and their mentor, George Leone, have proposed a senior project to design, build, and test the drivetrain for this year’s human powered vehicle. Research into human powered vehicles and their drivetrains has shown that the power that a rider can output and the efficiency at which the rider can pedal depend extensively on the design of the drivetrain. Despite the existence of standard bicycle drivetrain designs, the senior project team has found that the best design to meet the club’s requirements is a completely custom drivetrain based on the rider’s dimensions and preferences. The team defined a list of technical specifications that they used to validate the completed final prototype. The final confirmation prototype functioned as intended and all of the specifications were met with the exception of total cost. Details of the team’s design, manufacturing, and testing processes are outlined in this document
