Extension of the Adler-Bobenko-Suris classification of integrable lattice equations
The classification of lattice equations that are integrable in the sense of
higher-dimensional consistency is extended by allowing directed edges. We find
two cases that are not transformable via the 'admissible transformations' to
the lattice equations in the existing classification.Comment: 14 pages, 2 figure
Generalized isothermic lattices
We study multidimensional quadrilateral lattices satisfying simultaneously
two integrable constraints: a quadratic constraint and the projective Moutard
constraint. When the lattice is two dimensional and the quadric under
consideration is the Moebius sphere one obtains, after the stereographic
projection, the discrete isothermic surfaces defined by Bobenko and Pinkall by
an algebraic constraint imposed on the (complex) cross-ratio of the circular
lattice. We derive the analogous condition for our generalized isthermic
lattices using Steiner's projective structure of conics and we present basic
geometric constructions which encode integrability of the lattice. In
particular, we introduce the Darboux transformation of the generalized
isothermic lattice and we derive the corresponding Bianchi permutability
principle. Finally, we study two dimensional generalized isothermic lattices,
in particular geometry of their initial boundary value problem.Comment: 19 pages, 11 figures; v2. some typos corrected; v3. new references

Constructing solutions to the Bj\"orling problem for isothermic surfaces by structure preserving discretization
In this article, we study an analog of the Bj\"orling problem for isothermic
surfaces (that are more general than minimal surfaces): given a real analytic
curve in , and two analytic non-vanishing orthogonal
vector fields and along , find an isothermic surface that is
tangent to and that has and as principal directions of
curvature. We prove that solutions to that problem can be obtained by
constructing a family of discrete isothermic surfaces (in the sense of Bobenko
and Pinkall) from data that is sampled along , and passing to the limit
of vanishing mesh size. The proof relies on a rephrasing of the
Gauss-Codazzi-system as analytic Cauchy problem and an in-depth-analysis of its
discretization which is induced from the geometry of discrete isothermic
surfaces. The discrete-to-continuous limit is carried out for the Christoffel
and the Darboux transformations as well.Comment: 29 pages, some figure
Backlund transformations and Hamiltonian flows
In this work we show that, under certain conditions, parametric Backlund
transformations (BTs) for a finite dimensional integrable system can be
interpreted as solutions to the equations of motion defined by an associated
non-autonomous Hamiltonian. The two systems share the same constants of motion.
This observation lead to the identification of the Hamiltonian interpolating
the iteration of the discrete map defined by the transformations, that indeed
will be a linear combination of the integrals appearing in the spectral curve
of the Lax matrix. An application to the Toda periodic lattice is given.Comment: 19 pages, 2 figures. to appear in J. Phys.
Integrable discretizations of some cases of the rigid body dynamics
A heavy top with a fixed point and a rigid body in an ideal fluid are
important examples of Hamiltonian systems on a dual to the semidirect product
Lie algebra . We give a Lagrangian derivation of
the corresponding equations of motion, and introduce discrete time analogs of
two integrable cases of these systems: the Lagrange top and the Clebsch case,
respectively. The construction of discretizations is based on the discrete time
Lagrangian mechanics on Lie groups, accompanied by the discrete time Lagrangian
reduction. The resulting explicit maps on are Poisson with respect to
the Lie--Poisson bracket, and are also completely integrable. Lax
representations of these maps are also found.Comment: arXiv version is already officia
A discrete Laplace-Beltrami operator for simplicial surfaces
We define a discrete Laplace-Beltrami operator for simplicial surfaces. It
depends only on the intrinsic geometry of the surface and its edge weights are
positive. Our Laplace operator is similar to the well known finite-elements
Laplacian (the so called ``cotan formula'') except that it is based on the
intrinsic Delaunay triangulation of the simplicial surface. This leads to new
definitions of discrete harmonic functions, discrete mean curvature, and
discrete minimal surfaces. The definition of the discrete Laplace-Beltrami
operator depends on the existence and uniqueness of Delaunay tessellations in
piecewise flat surfaces. While the existence is known, we prove the uniqueness.
Using Rippa's Theorem we show that, as claimed, Musin's harmonic index provides
an optimality criterion for Delaunay triangulations, and this can be used to
prove that the edge flipping algorithm terminates also in the setting of
piecewise flat surfaces.Comment: 18 pages, 6 vector graphics figures. v2: Section 2 on Delaunay

Menelaus' theorem, Clifford configurations and inversive geometry of the Schwarzian KP hierarchy
It is shown that the integrable discrete Schwarzian KP (dSKP) equation which
constitutes an algebraic superposition formula associated with, for instance,
the Schwarzian KP hierarchy, the classical Darboux transformation and
quasi-conformal mappings encapsulates nothing but a fundamental theorem of
ancient Greek geometry. Thus, it is demonstrated that the connection with
Menelaus' theorem and, more generally, Clifford configurations renders the dSKP
equation a natural object of inversive geometry on the plane. The geometric and
algebraic integrability of dSKP lattices and their reductions to lattices of
Menelaus-Darboux, Schwarzian KdV, Schwarzian Boussinesq and Schramm type is
discussed. The dSKP and discrete Schwarzian Boussinesq equations are shown to
represent discretizations of families of quasi-conformal mappings.Comment: 26 pages, 9 figure
On the structure of the B\"acklund transformations for the relativistic lattices
The B\"acklund transformations for the relativistic lattices of the Toda type
and their discrete analogues can be obtained as the composition of two duality
transformations. The condition of invariance under this composition allows to
distinguish effectively the integrable cases. Iterations of the B\"acklund
transformations can be described in the terms of nonrelativistic lattices of
the Toda type. Several multifield generalizations are presented
Discrete Laplace Cycles of Period Four
We study discrete conjugate nets whose Laplace sequence is of period four.
Corresponding points of opposite nets in this cyclic sequence have equal
osculating planes in different net directions, that is, they correspond in an
asymptotic transformation. We show that this implies that the connecting lines
of corresponding points form a discrete W-congruence. We derive some properties
of discrete Laplace cycles of period four and describe two explicit methods for
their construction
Darboux Transformations, Infinitesimal Symmetries and Conservation Laws for Nonlocal Two-Dimensional Toda Lattice
The technique of Darboux transformation is applied to nonlocal partner of
two-dimensional periodic A_{n-1} Toda lattice. This system is shown to admit a
representation as the compatibility conditions of direct and dual
overdetermined linear systems with quantized spectral parameter. The
generalization of the Darboux transformation technique on linear equations of
such a kind is given. The connections between the solutions of overdetermined
linear systems and their expansions in series at singular points neighborhood
are presented. The solutions of the nonlocal Toda lattice and infinite
hierarchies of the infinitesimal symmetries and conservation laws are obtained.Comment: 12 pages, infinitesimal symmetries and conservation laws are adde
