Health-related quality of life in the WA HIV Cohort: 2008
Quality of life (QOL) is an important outcome of HIV treatment and a priority in the management of HIV. A new Patient-Reported Outcomes (PRO) questionnaire to measure the QOL in people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) from different cultures and language groups has been developed. The instrument, PROQOL-HIV, has undergone psychometric validation in 791 individuals from 8 countries including 99 people from the WA HIV Cohort Study
A point mass in an isotropic universe: III. The region
McVittie's solution of Einstein's field equations, representing a point mass
embedded into an isotropic universe, possesses a scalar curvature singularity
at proper radius . The singularity is space-like and precedes, in the
expanding case, all other events in the space-time. It is shown here that this
singularity is gravitationally weak, and the possible structure of the region
is investigated. A characterization of this solution which does not

Prospective genetic screening decreases the incidence of Abacavir hypersensitivity reactions in the Western Australian HIV cohort study
Abacavir therapy is associated with significant drug hypersensitivity in ∼8% of recipients, with retrospective studies indicating a strong genetic association with the HLA-B*5701 allelle. In this prospective study, involving 260 abacavir-naive individuals (7.7% of whom were positive for HLA-B*5701), we confirm the usefulness of genetic risk stratification, with no cases of abacavir hypersensitivity among 148 HLA-B*5701–negative recipients
Validation of the exercise self-efficacy scale (ESE-S) for increased adherence to physical activity
Background: Various self-efficacy instruments have been used to predict exercise behavior. Many of these scales have been shown tobe valid and reliable measures for the strength dimension of self-efficacy, but have overlooked the construct’s dimensions of magnitude and generality. This study established the Exercise Self-Efficacy Scale (ESE-S), a measure of the strength, generality, and magnitude dimensions of exercise self-efficacy, as a valid tool towards the promotion and adherence of routine physical activity.Methods: Using a non-experimental, cross-sectional design, the ESE-S was administered to individuals aged 18 and older (n=270) whowere conveniently recruited from a large city located in Ohio. Participants were employees of a large, national company and consentedto participate in an employee wellness campaign over a two-day period. Participants completed the 24-item ESE-S onetime and demographic data were not collected. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to examine the 4-factor hypothesized structure of the ESE-S.Results: The confirmatory analysis showed that the data did not conform to the factorial structure as originally hypothesized, but didretain a 4-four factor solution. Final factors identified from the confirmatory analysis were internal strength, external strength, generality, and magnitude.Conclusions: This study confirmed a 4-factor, 21-item factorial structure. Although the structure differed from that hypothesized, theresults showed that the tool was a valid and reliable instrument to measure the dimensions of exercise self-efficacy commonly overlooked within the literature. Public health professionals and researchers can use the instrument to measure exercise self-efficacy and develop self-efficacy based exercise promotion programs
Chasing the second gamma-ray bright isolated neutron star: 3EG J1835+5918/RX J1836.2+5925
The EGRET telescope aboard NASAs Compton GRO has repeatedly detected 3EG
J1835+5918, a bright and steady source of high-energy gamma-ray emission with
no identification suggested until recently. The long absence of any likely
counterpart for a bright gamma-ray source located 25 degrees off the Galactic
plane initiated several attempts of deep observations at other wavelengths. We
report on counterparts in X-rays on a basis of a 60 ksec ROSAT HRI image. In
order to conclude on the plausibility of the X-ray counterparts, we reanalyzed
data from EGRET at energies above 100 MeV and above 1 GeV, including data up to
CGRO observation cycle 7. The gamma-ray source location represents the latest
and probably the final positional assessment based on EGRET data. The X-ray
counterparts were studied during follow-up optical identification campaigns,
leaving only one object to be likely associated with the gamma-ray source 3EG
J1835+5918. This object, RX J1836.2+5925, has the characteristics of an
isolated neutron star and possibly of a radio-quiet pulsar.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures. To appear in the Proceedings of the 270.

Bulk and surface energetics of lithium hydride crystal: benchmarks from quantum Monte Carlo and quantum chemistry
We show how accurate benchmark values of the surface formation energy of
crystalline lithium hydride can be computed by the complementary techniques of
quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) and wavefunction-based molecular quantum chemistry.
To demonstrate the high accuracy of the QMC techniques, we present a detailed
study of the energetics of the bulk LiH crystal, using both pseudopotential and
all-electron approaches. We show that the equilibrium lattice parameter agrees
with experiment to within 0.03 %, which is around the experimental uncertainty,
and the cohesive energy agrees to within around 10 meV per formula unit. QMC in
periodic slab geometry is used to compute the formation energy of the LiH (001)
surface, and we show that the value can be accurately converged with respect to
slab thickness and other technical parameters. The quantum chemistry
calculations build on the recently developed hierarchical scheme for computing
the correlation energy of a crystal to high precision. We show that the
hierarchical scheme allows the accurate calculation of the surface formation
energy, and we present results that are well converged with respect to basis
set and with respect to the level of correlation treatment. The QMC and
hierarchical results for the surface formation energy agree to within about 1

Taxing Corporate Distributions of Appreciated Property: Repeal of General Utilities Doctrine, Releif Measures and Entity Reclassification Proposals
Professor Wolfman presents the case for outright repeal of General Utilities and its statutory offspring. Professor Wolfman traces the history of the doctrine and its procedural infirmities, and then describes how several Code sections may be eliminated or simplified. Mr. Nolan argues against the repeal of General Utilities where there is a sale or distribution of assets in complete liquidation, and further argues that the current taxation regime fosters the important social and economic policies that Congress has adopted. Mr. Hobbett discusses the reasons given for entity reclassification, and suggests that preservation of partnership status for publicly traded partnerships would offer an opportunity to experiment with full integration treatment for entities that might resemble corporations. Mr. Hobbett concludes that, if General Utilities were repealed, taxpayers would choose the partnership as an appropriate full integration system
