This study was undertaken basically to evaluate the financial performance of banks in a deregulated banking environment using an ordinary Least Square (OLS) method of regression analysis to analyze the results of First bank of Nigeria plc. The data set for this research constitutes an annual time series data spanning from 2001 – 2010. The selection of this timing was informed by the era of bank consolidation in Nigeria and from the fact that the banking sector has already been liberalized even before this period. The objective of this research is to find out the effect of the nominal lending rate, the exchange rate and the credit volume on banks financial performances in terms of their profitability. The data sources were mainly from a ten year financial summary of First bank of Nigeria Plc and CBN Statistical Bulletin, various years. The empirical evidence of the study revealed that the nominal lending rate and credit volume impacted positively to the profit of first bank Nigerian Plc, while the Exchange rate showed a negative significance. In summary, it was garnered that the variables employed are statistically significant as over 98 percent of them were explained at the long run. The researcher, therefore, submits that greater policy sensitivity towards the creation of credits and regulation of exchange rate volatility is urgently needed so that enough funds will be made available for potential investors in the Nigerian banking system. This study was designed to determine the effect of globe game on students' interest and achievement in longitude and latitude. Three research questions and three null hypotheses were formulated. Design for the study was a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group's pre-test and post-test design. The sample for this study comprised of Two hundred and eighty four S S11 students. Six secondary schools were drawn through a stratified random sampling technique. Three schools (one male, one female and one co-educational) were assigned to the treatment group while the remaining three schools were assigned to the control group. The treatment group was taught longitude and latitude using the globe game approach while the control group was taught longitude and latitude using the conventional method. Longitude and Latitude Achievement Test was used to collect data on the achievement of students, the Longitude and Latitude Interest Scale was also used to collect data on interest of students in longitude and latitude. Research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation while hypotheses were tested using the Analysis of co-variance (ANCOVA) at an alpha level of 0.05. The result revealed that globe game approach is superior to the conventional method in facilitating interest and achievement but no significant interaction between gender and instructional method. The researchers therefore, recommended that globe game approach should be used in secondary school system. Keywords: Globe Game, longitude and attitude. Dynamic model and control of power converters for grid connected renewable energy systems

    Get PDF
Abstract: In order to investigate certain dynamic events of a grid connected renewable energy system (RES), a systematic model and control is developed. The RES with its converter is taken as a controlled dc current source and the grid side converter model is based on approximate power balance of the dc-link and the ac-side. Here an AC-side decoupled current controller in dq reference frame and simplified net dc-bus voltage controllers are implied. Among different dynamic events that is studied, the response of the system during three-phase to ground fault, step change in reference DC voltage, active and reactive power change are studied and presented

Stability improvement of a HVDC transmission link bewteen weak AC systems by Multi-terminal scheme

    Get PDF
Abstract High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) schemes are becoming a more attractive solution as they have been used extensively in interconnected weak power AC systems. But, the problem of voltage stability for weak AC systems interconnected by a DC link is critical especially during islanding conditions. The approach to improve more on the stability of such system would be to device a means of injecting locally controlled dc power on the dc-link transmission corridor forming a radial multi-terminal HVDC. However, continuous injection of DC power on the dc line of the VSC HVDC link though will increase the power transfer capability of the system but should have a limit otherwise it will lead to instability of the system. In this paper, a detailed VSC HVDC model and a simple analytical technique using the principle of uniform loading to determine penetration limit is presented. The techniques is applied to our case study and validated with a simulation result. Critical contingencies such as sudden island conditions, threephase to ground fault are simulated with and without DC power penetration. Results show the stability support on the AC side networks by DC power injection on the dc-link
