    Boundary operators in the O(n) and RSOS matrix models

    We study the new boundary condition of the O(n) model proposed by Jacobsen and Saleur using the matrix model. The spectrum of boundary operators and their conformal weights are obtained by solving the loop equations. Using the diagrammatic expansion of the matrix model as well as the loop equations, we make an explicit correspondence between the new boundary condition of the O(n) model and the "alternating height" boundary conditions in RSOS model.Comment: 29 pages, 4 figures; version to appear in JHE

    Career advancement, career enhancement, and personal growth of Pepperdine University\u27s Educational Leadership Academy graduate program alumni

    The purpose of this phenomenological study was two-fold: (a) to explore and describe the perceived impact of Pepperdine University\u27s Educational Leadership Academy (ELA) on 2003-2006 ELA graduates\u27 career advancement, career enhancement, and personal growth; and (b) to obtain ELA graduates\u27 suggestions for ELA program improvement to better prepare graduates for career advancement, career enhancement, and personal growth. This study used a qualitative phenomenological methodology design for data collection and analysis. Audio-recorded semi-structured telephone interviews were conducted with 30 individuals who graduated from the ELA program from 2003-2006. Ten key interview questions were asked to examine the career advancement, career enhancement, and personal growth of ELA graduates as well as to explore program strengths and solicit ideas for program improvement. The findings from this study indicated that ELA graduates: (a) enrolled in ELA to earn their degree and credential, to advance their careers, and increase their career mobility; (b) advanced to new leadership and or new administrative positions; (c) perceived ELA\u27s greatest career advancement impact was advancement to new leadership/administrative positions and increased knowledge, skills, and experience; (d) perceived ELA\u27s greatest career enhancement impact was a greater understanding and appreciation of the role of educational administration and enhanced confidence in professional skills; (e) perceived ELA\u27s greatest personal growth impact were the development and or enhancement of professional skills, confidence, professional growth and goals, and a greater understanding and appreciation for the role of educational administration; (f) perceived program curriculum and professors as program strengths; and (g) suggested focusing on daily logistics of educational administration and further career support as areas of ELA program improvement. It was concluded that: (a) the ELA program had a strong positive impact on ELA graduates; (b) career advancement was a priority motivator for enrolling in the ELA program; (c) ELA graduates perceive career enhancement, career advancement, and personal growth to be nearly synonymous; and (d) overall, ELA graduates were highly satisfied with the ELA curriculum. A recommendation offered to improve the curriculum related to increasing opportunities for management/operational learning and experience. A recommendation related to career advancement was to provide students and graduates with additional career support

    Boundary changing operators in the O(n) matrix model

    We continue the study of boundary operators in the dense O(n) model on the random lattice. The conformal dimension of boundary operators inserted between two JS boundaries of different weight is derived from the matrix model description. Our results are in agreement with the regular lattice findings. A connection is made between the loop equations in the continuum limit and the shift relations of boundary Liouville 3-points functions obtained from Boundary Ground Ring approach.Comment: 31 pages, 4 figures, Introduction and Conclusion improve

    Laptop applications for retail newspaper advertising

    PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to identify the means of using a laptop application in the creation of target market advertising for daily newspaper independent publications. More specific purposes were: (1) how to provide a sales representative with templates and guidelines to ensure that the primary function, selling, is maintained; (2) to train the sales representative on the hardware and software applications; (3) to analyze the productivity of the production department and the sales representative in relation to the laptop application; (4) to analyze the response to the laptop application by the customers and their involvement in the creation of their advertisement. PROCEDURE: The procedure of this project is formulated within the framework of conventional historical research. The following objectives were undertaken to accomplish the goal of this project. Using the Multi-Ad Services application Creator© a series of templates were created consisting of approximately 18 different advertising layouts. Four clients of The Syracuse Newspaper\u27s publication Auto Finder were selected to be initial targets of this project. The client base would be expanded each week. Training on the hardware and Multi-Ad Creator© application would take place as the same time as visits to the clients. This technique was used to accomplish the goal of training for both the sales representative and the client. To determine the success of this project a questionnaire was formulated. The areas that were surveyed included the sales representative, members of the production staff responsible for composition of the publication and clients. An additional survey was distributed to the clients to determine if the project was a success for their business. This included questions relating to the success of the advertising, quality and other media used to sell the clients automobiles. FINDINGS: The most important findings were: 1. A successful means of providing a sales representative with templates and guidelines that ensured that the primary function, selling, was maintained. 2. The training of the sales rep on the hardware and software applications must be limited to on-the-job training. It is more successful if the employee has a basic knowledge of computers, however this is not critical. 3. The analysis of the productivity in the production department and the sales representative in relation to the laptop application was significant in relationship to the amount of time allowed for the testing of the project. Productivity has increased as much as 20 percent with the sales representative and 10 percent in the production department. The production department anticipates further increases in productivity as this program is expanded. 4. The response to the laptop application by the customers and their involvement in the creation of their advertisement has been determined to be effective. The effectiveness is based on the customer\u27s response to a questionnaire. CONCLUSIONS: The following conclusions were derived from the study 1. A Laptop Applications for Retail Newspaper Advertising (LARNA) is a cost effective method of increasing productivity in both the sales department and the production departments. 2. The Laptop Applications for Retail Newspaper Advertising (LARNA) is a concept that can be used through out the newspaper industry in a variety of specific areas. 3. The next step is to determine a means of transmitting the information from the sales representative on his rounds to the production facility

    Structure of the two-boundary XXZ model with non-diagonal boundary terms

    We study the integrable XXZ model with general non-diagonal boundary terms at both ends. The Hamiltonian is considered in terms of a two boundary extension of the Temperley-Lieb algebra. We use a basis that diagonalizes a conserved charge in the one-boundary case. The action of the second boundary generator on this space is computed. For the L-site chain and generic values of the parameters we have an irreducible space of dimension 2^L. However at certain critical points there exists a smaller irreducible subspace that is invariant under the action of all the bulk and boundary generators. These are precisely the points at which Bethe Ansatz equations have been formulated. We compute the dimension of the invariant subspace at each critical point and show that it agrees with the splitting of eigenvalues, found numerically, between the two Bethe Ansatz equations.Comment: 9 pages Latex.
