Today, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Public Service logics, are spreading within the management of for-profit public service networks in France (EDF, France Telecom, la SNCF…) ; networks that have been historically privatized or on the way to becoming The aim of this research is to bring an understanding to how these logics are opposed, juxtaposed and articulated in a managerial context that is dominated by a logic of maximized shareholder value progressively. In this perspective, we create several scenarios implementing of CSR approach(s). Them, we study in depth the case of company France Telecom and of its CRS approach. Our results indicate that the official CSR approach for France Telecom is disconnected from public service logics, placing more importance on short term logics. Nevertheless, in a decentralized and autonomous way, innovative CSR initiatives progressively emerge… Some are based on the spirit of Public Service, while seeking to improve the profitability of the company

Impact of coordination of intertie transformer tap changers on active power losses assessed by Big Bang Big Crunch algorithm

Abstract: Power utilities worldwide face significant technical power losses. There are two categories of power losses: technical and non-technical losses. Technical losses occur on the transmission and distribution lines, transformer windings, and capacitors. These include active power losses which are caused by resistive components and reactive power losses which are caused by reactive components. Transformer tap changers play a key role in the minimization of power losses. Many researchers have already investigated the effect of transformer tap changers on power systems. However, none of their publications have assessed the impact of transformer tap changers on power flows in the context of interties to minimize active power losses using BBBC algorithm. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of intertie transformer tap changers on active power losses using BBBC algorithm...M.Phil. (Electrical Engineering in Power and Energy Systems

Background: Vitamin A deficiency (VAD) is a widespread public health problem in developing nations affecting greatly pregnant and lactating women. The intake of Vitamin A rich foods highly recommended to reduce the prevalence in these vulnerable groups are greatly influenced by the level of education, geographic origin and differences in food habits. Aims of the Study: To evaluate the Influence of socio-economic, cultural, geographic origin, and demographic factors on vitamin A (VA) intake of lactating mothers in Ngaoundere, Cameroon. Method: A total of 100 lactating mothers attending pediatric consultations at four major health structures in Ngaoundere were involved in the survey. A questionnaire was used to get information on socio-economic, cultural, demographic factors, geographic origin, anthropometric parameters and culinary practices. Dietary intake was assessed using a 24-hour dietary recall method. Meals potentially rich in VA consumed by these women were collected, their carotenoids contents quantified and VA activity determined. Results: Average VA intake of lactating women of Northern origin was significantly (p< 0.05) lower (595.2±60.4μg/day) than that of women of Southern origin (737.6±55.6μg/day), although both were below the recommended intake of 850μg/day. VA intake was also higher in the more educated women. Marital status, number of children, age of the mother and body mass index did not significantly influence the daily VA intake of the women. Lactating women of Northern origin, with three or more children and having no formal education, are more at risk of acute VA Deficiency. Conclusion: While the level of education influenced the VA intake in lactating women from the Northern Region, the age of the baby influenced those from the Southern Region

Objective: The sexual stimulatory effect of aqueous stem bark extract of Xylopia aethiopica which is commonly used traditionally for the treatment of fertility-related problems in males is reported in this work. Methods: The present study investigated the effect of 14 d oral administration of 1 ml/kg distilled water (control), 100, 200 and 300 mg/kg of body weight of the stem bark extract on some fertility parameters of the Swiss male rats. So, all the target organs (testis, epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicle and prostate) were weighed. The sperm motility and sperm count in testis, epididymis and vas deferens were determined. Serum and tissue protein, as well as cholesterol, were evaluated. The serum testosterone level was also assessed. Results: The extract did not produced significant change in the mobility of sperm, the sperm count in vas deferens, the relative weight of body and accessory organs at all doses. The daily sperm production (DSP) and the weight of prostate significantly increased at a dose of 100 mg/kg (p<0.01) while the sperm count in cauda epididymis increased at a dose of 200 mg/kg. The testicular and serum cholesterol significantly increased (p<0.001) at the dose of 100 mg/kg whereas the testicular and serum proteins increased (p<0.001) at the dose of 200 mg/kg. The serum testosterone level increased following 14 d of treatment (p<0.01) at the dose of 100 mg/kg.Conclusion: The results suggest that Xylopia aethiopica may have the potentials of being developed into a male fertility enhancing drug

Is thyroid stimulating hormone titration mandatory in the routine work-up of African males from infertile couples?

Background: The impact of thyroid hormones on male reproductive function is still insufficiently understood. The objectives of this study were to determine the frequency of thyroid dysfunction in men from infertile couples and to establish an association between TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) values and sperm parameters. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional analytical study on a consecutive series of men managed for couple infertility in two reference hospitals of Yaoundé from November 2017 to May 2018. For each participant, a questionnaire was administered, TSH was assayed using electro-chemo-luminescence and sperm analyzed. Statistical methods used were the Mann-Whitney test and the Spearman correlation coefficient with a significance threshold of 5%.Results: Overall, 123 men were recruited. The median age was 44 years old [38-50 years]; 60 (48.79%) patients had couple infertility lasting between 1 and 5 years. Primary infertility of the couple was the most common (82 cases, 66.70%). After sperm analysis, 86 patients (70%) had one or more anomalies. TSH titration revealed 03 (2.44%) cases of subclinical hyperthyroidism, 05 (4.06%) subclinical hypothyroidism and 115 (93.50%) euthyroidism. Significant associations were found between TSH and sperm parameters in the group of patients with thyroid dysfunction, but none in the euthyroid group. Conclusions: Frequency of dysthyroidism is low among African males from infertile couples. We noted significant correlations between TSH values and sperm parameters. The low frequency of thyroid dysfunction would be against a TSH titration in the routine work-up of these patients

Ectodermal dysplasia are rare genetic diseases characterized by the absence or dysplasia of some tissues of ectodermal origin. We present a case of a young boy seen at the age of seven and a half years for late eruption of teeth, morphologic abnormalities of the teeth and a feeling of exaggerated heat. The diagnosis of anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia was discussed. The absence of sweat glands on the skin biopsy slides was in favor of the diagnosis. Dental prostheses were put in place which the aim of permitting the child to eat normally and have a better self image
