The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between the dimensions of Sense of Coherence and Goal Setting. A sample of 80 management consultants participated in the study. Confirmatory reliabilities of the dimensions used in the Goal Setting Questionnaire (independent variable) and Sense of Coherence 29 item Orientation to Life Questionnaire (dependent variable), ranged from 0,54 to 0,97. A canonical correlation of 0,569 (DF = 39; p = 0,021) was obtained between the dimensions of these two questionnaires

Merino-, Karakoel-. English Title: Reproductive patterns of five sheep breeds under extensive conditionsEnglish AbstractMerino, Karakul, Dorper, Blackhead Persian and Namaqua Mrikaner ewes were tested for oestrus twice daily over a period of six years to evaluate their reproductive patterns under the semi-arid conditions of the North Western Cape. It was found that the Merino and Karakul exhibited sexual activity from February to August and January to August respectively. In the case of the Narnaqua Mrikaner sexual activity was reduced during December only. The Blackhead-Persian exhibited cycles for a slightly shorter period but at a high-level than the Namaqua Afrikaner. Although the breeding season of the Dorper was of an intermediate type, this breed showed oestrous activity at the highest level of the five breeds evaluated. Except for the Namaqua Mrikaner, sexual activity during the non-breeding season increased with age up to 108 months

    Gamma-Ray Pulsars

Gamma-ray photons from young pulsars allow the deepest insight into the properties and interactions of high-energy particles with magnetic and photon fields in a pulsar magnetosphere. Measurements with the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory have led to the detection of nearly ten gamma-ray pulsars. Although quite a variety of individual signatures is found for these pulsars, some general characteristics can be summarized: (1) the gamma-ray lightcurves of most high-energy pulsars show two major peaks with the pulsed emission covering more than 50% of the rotation, i.e. a wide beam of emission; (2) the gamma-ray spectra of pulsars are hard (power law index less than 2), often with a luminosity maximum around 1 GeV. A spectral cutoff above several GeV is found; (3) the spectra vary with rotational phase indicating different sites of emission; and (4) the gamma-luminosity scales with the particle flux from the open regions of the magnetosphere (Goldreich-Julian current).Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures, 2 tables. A function-based typology for Earth’s ecosystems

As the United Nations develops a post-2020 global biodiversity framework for the Convention on Biological Diversity, attention is focusing on how new goals and targets for ecosystem conservation might serve its vision of ‘living in harmony with nature’1,2. Advancing dual imperatives to conserve biodiversity and sustain ecosystem services requires reliable and resilient generalizations and predictions about ecosystem responses to environmental change and management3. Ecosystems vary in their biota4, service provision5 and relative exposure to risks6, yet there is no globally consistent classification of ecosystems that reflects functional responses to change and management. This hampers progress on developing conservation targets and sustainability goals. Here we present the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Global Ecosystem Typology, a conceptually robust, scalable, spatially explicit approach for generalizations and predictions about functions, biota, risks and management remedies across the entire biosphere. The outcome of a major cross-disciplinary collaboration, this novel framework places all of Earth’s ecosystems into a unifying theoretical context to guide the transformation of ecosystem policy and management from global to local scales. This new information infrastructure will support knowledge transfer for ecosystem-specific management and restoration, globally standardized ecosystem risk assessments, natural capital accounting and progress on the post-2020 global biodiversity framework

Historiese en sosiale oorsprong(e) van apokaliptiek

Historical and social origin(s) of apocalyipticism How and where did apocalyptic literature originate? What is the relation between apocalyptic literature on the one hand, and prophesy and wisdom literature on the other? Should apocalyptic literature be regarded as a deviation from prophetic literature, or is it a linear development thereof? Wherein lies the difference between prophetic and apocalyptic eschatology? In this artcle a literary study is done to find answers to these questions and it is concluded that apocalypticism does not have a single dominant origin, but that its origins lie in a complexity of factors. The researcher can find a description of these factors only in each unique apocalyptic work. Many historical and cultural factors played a role in the origin of apocalyptic works. A single social background cannot be posited for apocalyptic literature either. The worldview expressed by apocalyptic works does not necessarily represent that of marginalized groups as apocalypticism is rather a way of thinking which permeated the entire Jewish community
