Curated by Sam Yates and Hideki Kimura, professor of art at Kyoto City University of Arts, Redefining the Multiple unites 13 printmakers from Japan who bring the techniques and concepts of printmaking to a wide range of contemporary and traditional media. Of the selected participants, four make three-dimensional objects and installations, two paint with printmaking tools and techniques, three use digital photography and technology, while others utilize traditional and recognizable printmaking methods. The featured artists are: Hideki Kimura, Junji Amano, Kouseki Ono, Koichi Kiyono, Shuji Chiaki, Toshinao Yoshioka, Shunsuke Kano, Naruki Oshima, Marie Yoshiki, Nobauki Onishi, Shoji Miyamoto, Arata Nojima, and Saori Miyake

Duodenoportal fistula caused by peptic ulcer after extended right hepatectomy for hilar cholangiocarcinoma

BACKGROUND: A fistula between the duodenum and the main portal vein near a peptic ulcer is extremely rare, and only two cases of duodenal ulcers have been reported in the past. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 68-year-old man with a diagnosis of anemia who had a history of extended right hepatectomy for hilar cholangiocarcinoma 20 months previously. The first endoscopic examination revealed a giant peptic ulcer with active bleeding at the posterior wall of the duodenal bulbs, and hemostasis was performed. Endoscopic treatment and transarterial embolization were performed repeatedly because of uncontrollable bleeding from the duodenal ulcer. Nevertheless, he died of sudden massive hematemesis on the 20(th )hospital day. At autopsy, communication with the main portal vein and duodenal ulcer was observed. CONCLUSION: It should be borne in mind that the main portal vein is exposed at the front of the hepatoduodenal ligament in cases with previous extrahepatic bile duct resection

A Viral Mechanism for Inhibition of p300 and PCAF Acetyltransferase Activity

AbstractNucleosomal histone modification is believed to be a critical step in the activation of RNA polymerase II–dependent transcription. p300/CBP and PCAF histone acetyltransferases (HATs) are coactivators for several transcription factors, including nuclear hormone receptors, p53, and Stat1 α, and participate in transcription by forming an activation complex and by promoting histone acetylation. The adenoviral E1A oncoprotein represses transcriptional signaling by binding to p300/CBP and displacing PCAF and p/CIP proteins from the complex. Here, we show that E1A directly represses the HAT activity of both p300/CBP and PCAF in vitro and p300-dependent transcription in vivo. Additionally, E1A inhibits nucleosomal histone modifications by the PCAF complex and blocks p53 acetylation. These results demonstrate the modulation of HAT activity as a novel mechanism of transcriptional regulation

Broadband X-ray Spectral Study of Nuclear Structure in Local Obscured Radio Galaxies

Radio galaxies are a key population to understand the importance of relativistic jets in AGN feedback. We present the results of a systematic, broadband X-ray spectral analysis of hard X-ray selected radio galaxies to investigate their nuclear structures. In this study, we focus on the seven most radio-loud, X-ray obscured narrow line radio galaxies in the \textit{Swift}/BAT 70 month AGN catalog. The spectra from 0.5 keV up to 66 keV obtained with \textit{Suzaku} and \textit{NuSTAR} of six objects are newly analyzed here by utilizing the X-ray clumpy torus model (XCLUMPY), whereas we refer to Ogawa et al. (2021) for the results of Centaurus A. We find that these radio galaxies have similar torus covering fractions compared with radio quiet AGNs at the same Eddington ratios (3<logλEdd<1-3 < \log \lambda_{\rm Edd} < -1). This result implies that (1) the torus structure is not an important factor that determines the presence of jets and (2) AGN jets have physically little effect on the torus.Comment: 10 pages (4 tables/14 figures in the main text), accepted in MNRA

The p400 Complex Is an Essential E1A Transformation Target

AbstractHere, we report the identification of a new E1A binding protein complex that is essential for E1A-mediated transformation. Its core component is a SWI2/SNF2-related, 400 kDa protein (p400). Other components include the myc- and p/CAF-associated cofactor, TRRAP/PAF400, the DNA helicases TAP54α/β, actin-like proteins, and the human homolog of the Drosophila Enhancer of Polycomb protein. An E1A mutant, defective in p400 binding, is also defective in transformation. Certain p400 fragments partially rescued this phenotype, underscoring the role of E1A-p400 complex formation in the E1A transforming process. Furthermore, E1A and c-myc each alter the subunit composition of p400 complexes, implying that physiological p400 complex formation contributes to transformation suppression

Nuclear Receptor Coactivator ACTR Is a Novel Histone Acetyltransferase and Forms a Multimeric Activation Complex with P/CAF and CBP/p300

AbstractWe report here the identification of a novel cofactor, ACTR, that directly binds nuclear receptors and stimulates their transcriptional activities in a hormone- dependent fashion. ACTR also recruits two other nuclear factors, CBP and P/CAF, and thus plays a central role in creating a multisubunit coactivator complex. In addition, and unexpectedly, we show that purified ACTR is a potent histone acetyltransferase and appears to define a distinct evolutionary branch to this recently described family. Thus, hormonal activation by nuclear receptors involves the mutual recruitment of at least three classes of histone acetyltransferases that may act cooperatively as an enzymatic unit to reverse the effects of histone deacetylase shown to be part of the nuclear receptor corepressor complex
