Outsourcing property management perspective : universities in the District of Perak Tengah / Nurul Sahida Fauzi ... [et al.]
Outsourcing is the most popular property management practice especially when the management demanded a
portion of skilled labor. Generally, the scope of the outsource property management differs from one organization to another. Due to that, sometimes none of these areas hit the desired objectives of outsourcing since they are absent of clear policies by the organization. Furthermore there is lack of awareness on the existence of these entities. The study on outsource property management perspective in universities have never been discussed. This discrepancy needs to be addressed as universities are the starting place to inculcate this awareness since the services provided will indirectly affect the students and staff performances. Thus, this study is carried out (1) to identify the types of outsource property management used by universities in the district of Perak Tengah (Universiti Teknologi Mara, UiTM (Perak) and Universiti Teknologi Petronas, UTP), (2) to gauge the extent of awareness among the students and staff towards the services provided; and (3) to measure the level of satisfaction amongst the respondents on the services provided. This study hopes to contribute towards the awareness of the existence of property management outsourcing and to improve the quality and sustainability of the property management profession. The quantitative method of data collection is used in this study. Structured questionnaires were randomly distributed among students and staff of both universities. Data from the questionnaire was analysed using the SPSS software. The results revealed that 63% of the respondents are aware of the existence of
property management outsourcing in their area while 38% are not. Mean analysis showed most of the respondents
are satisfied with the services provided where the mean score achieved lies within the range of (3.50 ≤ value ˂
4.50). This implies that even though they are not aware of the existence of property management outsourcing in
their area, they still scored a high level of satisfaction with the services provided
A HOLISTIC MODEL OF EMPLOYEE’S UNDERSTANDING IN THE MANAGEMENT OF ISLAMIC ORGANIZATIONS
Abstract. As a country with a majority of Muslim population and recognizes Islam as the official religion, Malaysia is indeed has a large number of Islamic-based organizations offering shariah-compliant products and services. However, such organizations have been receiving criticism from the client and the public on the aspect of management executed by employee. They claimed that the execution of duties among the employee in the Islamic organization does not reflect the nature of the organization itself. The rapid development of such an organization requires a solid understanding among the employee in charge of the task entrusted. However, previous studies have found that the understanding of employee in carrying out their duties in the Islamic organization is quite unsatisfactory. Therefore, this study takes the initiative to study the understanding of the employee in the implementation of Islamic management in Islamic organization. The study was conducted using the qualitative method. The sample of this study consisted of 11 executives in three Islamic organizations. Among the organizations are Islamic Banking, Takaful and Islamic Property Management Company. The location of the study involved selected organizations in three states of the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia namely Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang. The study is expected to produce a holistic model of employee understanding in the management of an Islamic organization. The model involves several phases that aim to ensure that employee understanding covers all aspects such as goals, implementation and impact.Key words: employee understanding, Islamic management, Islamic organisation, Malaysia
The eartquake effect of single storey RC building structure due to surrounding earthquake in Malaysia
Nowadays, earthquake had happened in Malaysia. So, a study of earthquake was carrying out for Malaysia which is for single storey concrete building. For this study,
there are two software being used to get data of effect of single storey building due to surrounding earthquake and not surrounding earthquake which are ESTEEM software
and SAP 2000 software. ESTEEM software and SAP 2000 software have differences step to use it and advantage of using the software to the engineer or users. ESTEEM software and SAP 2000 software produce differences of result and this research is carry out to know why there are difference between this two software. This is to determine comparative analysis using ESTEEM software and SAP 2000 software. By using SAP 2000, the best mode, shape of three vibration analysis can be determined. ESTEEM software and SAP 2000 software can insert of earthquake data but there are still differences of this each software. SAP 2000 using Acheh's data of earthquake but for ESTEEM software insert for angle of earthquake or waves which will come to the building
Driving Behaviour of Elderly Drivers in Malaysia
Aging of population has increased in most developed countries. In year 2030, the aging population in Malaysia will reach 15% of the population. This situation contributes to the increasing number of older drivers on the road. Thus, it is important to identify the needs and safety aspects of driving among the elderly. The objective of this study was to determine the characteristics of basic driving skills among older drivers and their driving behavior. An instrument adapted from Driver Behavior Questionnaire (DBQ) was used to collect survey data. A total of 240 car drivers aged 50 years and above completed the questionnaire. For observation data, 150 respondents were chosen in order to observe their driving skills especially at intersections and parking areas. A Correlation analysis and Chi-Square test were performed to study the relationship between their age and driving skills. Results showed majority of the respondents demonstrated that they had knowledge of basic driving skills. Observation study at parking areas showed that selection of parking space, in and out parking skills, time taken to park, vehicle position and number of passengers were significant towards gender. While, observation at intersections showed that only vehicle distance was significant towards gender. Three variables (the older drivers being comfortable driving on the left lane, older drivers were often honked during driving and older drivers being slow responding to hazards such as pedestrians at the crossing) were correlated and significant at p<0.05 . This study recommended providing older drivers with priority lanes, special parking areas and car sticker tagging “older driver†in addition to supervising their licenses, conducting driving class sessions and undergoing medical examination for them
Legislative provisions for waṣiyyah wājibah in Malaysia and Indonesia: to what extent do they differ in practice?
Purpose: This research aims to examine and compare differences in waṣiyyah wājibah (obligatory bequest) (WW) practices in Malaysia and Indonesia. Design/methodology/approach: This is an exploratory qualitative research, employing a thematic analysis approach. Six Muslim Wills (State) Enactments [Enakmen Wasiat Orang Islam (Negeri)] in Malaysia, Islamic Law Compilation (Kompilasi Hukum Islam) in Indonesia, two fatwas (ruling in religious matters) and one court case from each country are analysed. Data is collected from official government websites and other reliable search engines. Findings: First, the findings show that the WW practice in both countries is similar regarding the quantum of the beneficiaries' entitlement. However, the practice varies between both countries in terms of the types of beneficiaries and how the bequest is distributed. Second, this study shows the potential of WW as an estate planning instrument to complement the existing instruments in each country, especially when addressing family members who are not entitled to succeed by farāʾiḍ (Islamic inheritance law). Practical implications: The provision of relevant laws and regulations regarding WW needs to be formulated to guarantee the well-being of dependants. The differences in practice between the two countries can be a guideline to expand the WW scope and context to other Muslim countries. Originality/value: This study is the first attempt to compare WW between two Muslim-majority countries focusing on relevant laws, court cases and regulations
Rainfall-induced landslides in Cameron Highland area, Malaysia
Cameron Highland is classified as one of the landslide-prone areas in Malaysia due
to its hilly landform. It has been discovered that the landslides in Cameron Highland were
mainly triggered by the intense rainfall since the area encountered high amount of rainfall
throughout the year. This study is carried out to evaluate the correlation between the rainfall
intensity- duration (I-D) and the landslide occurrences in the Cameron Highland area. Twelve
cases of landslides in the study area had been selected for conducting the analysis of rainfall
intensity- duration (I-D) that triggers the landslides. The important variables from the analysis
such as the maximum rainfall intensity (I) and the duration of rainfall series (D) have been
applied to establish the empirical rainfall intensity-duration (I-D) threshold for Cameron
Highland landslide areas. Based on the study, by utilising the logarithmic scale graph and
applying a power-law model from the general equation of I= αD-β
, the empirical I-D threshold
for Cameron Highland landslide was determined as I = 29.088D-0.075 (I = rainfall intensity in
mm/hr and D = duration in hour). The empirical (I-D) threshold can be a functional
mechanism for the Early Warning System (EWS) once it is further developed, that enable the
relevant authority to prepare mitigation measures such as evacuation, spreading information to
the civilian in order to prevent major losses and casualties due to the landslide event
