The impact of deregulation and re-regulation on bank efficiency: evidence from Asia
Following the 1997 crisis, banking sector reforms in Asia have been characterised by the emphasis on prudential regulation, associated with increased financial liberalisation. Using a panel data set of commercial banks from eight major Asian economies over the period 2001-2010, this study explores how the coexistence of liberalisation and prudential regulation affects banks’ cost characteristics. Given the presence of heterogeneity of technologies across countries, we use a stochastic frontier approach followed by the estimation of a deterministic meta-frontier to provide ‘true’ estimates of bank cost efficiency measures. Our results show that the liberalization of bank interest rates and the increase in foreign banks' presence have had a positive and significant impact on technological progress and cost efficiency. On the other hand, we find that prudential regulation might adversely affect bank cost performance. When designing an optimal regulatory framework, policy makers should combine policies which aim to foster financial stability without hindering financial intermediation
Role of hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC 4000) in the protection of the polymorphs of Piroxicam extended release tablets
The present study deals with the influence of hydroxypropylmethylcellulose 4000 in the protection of Piroxicam polymorphs which could appear during the processes of formulation of extended release tablets.
The physico-chemical tests and the dissolution profiles of polymorphs and tablets showed that the metolose incorporated in the tablets at a rate equivalent to 5% could possibly act doubly; initially by protecting the piroxicam polymorphism transition (form II) during compression, then modulating its in vitro release (extended release)
Application of Modeling in the Optimization of Sidi Okba Wellfield (W. Biskra)
AbstractThe existence and expansion of arid region, after being accepted as a natural inevitability, is now the subject of many studies, essentially devoted to the problem of their recharges water. Also, the exploitation and use of groundwater were they high specificity in the water economy. For the region of Sidi Okba (in W. Biskra), which experienced a major agricultural development which required extensive drilling, six (08) holes capturing the Mio-Pliocene water table, the latter is more extensive supply sources more stable than surface water. In this research, we will try to restore the hydraulic head of the water table using the MODFLOW computer code. This numerical model was developed on the basis of an overall synthesis of acquired data. This data is geometric and hydrodynamic order to better manage these resources. Map of lowering is drawn using Surfer.8.0. The Excel Solver is application used to optimize the operation of capturing the water table. This work has identified the main groundwater flow in the deep aquifer (Mio-Pliocene) and deducts the possibility of further exploitation in boreholes serving the city of Sidi Okba
