Recursive Thick Modeling and the Choice of Monetary Policy in Mexico
By following the spirit in Favero and Milani (2005), we use recursive thick modeling to take into account model uncertainty for the choice of optimal monetary policy. We consider an open economy model and generate multiple models for only the aggregate demand and aggregate supply. Models are constructed by matching the rankings of aggregate demand and aggregate supply and adding other specifications for the rest of the variables. The main results show that recursive thick modeling with equal and different weights approximates the recent historical behavior of nominal interest rates in Mexico better than recursive thin modelingmodel uncertainty, optimal control, out-of-bag, thin modeling and thick modeling
The Galaxy-Halo/Subhalo connection: Mass relations and implications for some satellite occupational distributions
We infer the local stellar-to-halo/subhalo mass relations (MRs) for central
and satellite galaxies separately. We constraint this relations by using
several combinations of observational data, consisting of the total galaxy
stellar mass function, its decomposition into centrals and satellites, and the
projected two-point correlation functions measured in different stellar mass
bins. The differences among the resulting MRs are within the model-fit
uncertainties (which are very small, smaller than the intrinsic scatter between
galaxy and halo mass), no matter what combination of data are used. We also
constrain the values of the intrinsic scatter around the central-halo (CH) and
satellite-subhalo (SS) MRs assuming them to be constant: sigma_c= 0.168+-0.051
dex and sigma_s = 0.172+-0.057 dex, respectively. The CH and SS MRs are
actually different, in particular when we take the subhalo mass at the
present-day epoch instead of at their accretion time. We calculate several
population statistics. We find that the central galaxy is not on average within
the mass distribution of the most-massive satellite, even for cluster-sized
halos, i.e., centrals are not a mere realization of the high-end of the
satellite mass function; however for > 3x10^13 msun halos, ~15% of centrals
could be. We also find that the probabilities of MW-sized halos of having N
Magellanic-Clouds (MCs)-sized satellites agree well with observational
measures; for a halo mass of 2x10^12 msun, the probability to have 2 MCs is
5.4%, but if we exclude those systems with satellites larger than the MCs, then

Sketch-based Influence Maximization and Computation: Scaling up with Guarantees
Propagation of contagion through networks is a fundamental process. It is
used to model the spread of information, influence, or a viral infection.
Diffusion patterns can be specified by a probabilistic model, such as
Independent Cascade (IC), or captured by a set of representative traces.
Basic computational problems in the study of diffusion are influence queries
(determining the potency of a specified seed set of nodes) and Influence
Maximization (identifying the most influential seed set of a given size).
Answering each influence query involves many edge traversals, and does not
scale when there are many queries on very large graphs. The gold standard for
Influence Maximization is the greedy algorithm, which iteratively adds to the
seed set a node maximizing the marginal gain in influence. Greedy has a
guaranteed approximation ratio of at least (1-1/e) and actually produces a
sequence of nodes, with each prefix having approximation guarantee with respect
to the same-size optimum. Since Greedy does not scale well beyond a few million
edges, for larger inputs one must currently use either heuristics or
alternative algorithms designed for a pre-specified small seed set size.
We develop a novel sketch-based design for influence computation. Our greedy
Sketch-based Influence Maximization (SKIM) algorithm scales to graphs with
billions of edges, with one to two orders of magnitude speedup over the best
greedy methods. It still has a guaranteed approximation ratio, and in practice
its quality nearly matches that of exact greedy. We also present influence
oracles, which use linear-time preprocessing to generate a small sketch for
each node, allowing the influence of any seed set to be quickly answered from

A non-Markovian optical signature for detecting entanglement in coupled excitonic qubits
We identify an optical signature for detecting entanglement in experimental
nanostructure systems comprising coupled excitonic qubits. This signature owes
its strength to non-Markovian dynamical effects in the second-order temporal
coherence function of the emitted radiation. We calculate autocorrelation and
cross-correlation functions for both selective and collective light excitation,
and prove that the coherence properties of the emitted light do indeed carry
information about the entanglement of the initial multi-qubit state.
We also show that this signature can survive in the presence of a noisy

Strategies for the control of Rhipicephalus microplus ticks in a world of conventional acaricide and macrocyclic lactone resistance
Infestations with the cattle tick, Rhipicephalus microplus, constitute the most important ectoparasite problem for cattle production in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide, resulting in major economic losses. The control of R. microplus is mostly based on the use of conventional acaricides and macrocyclic lactones. However, the intensive use of such compounds has resulted in tick populations that exhibit resistance to all major acaricide chemical classes. Consequently, there is a need for the development of alternative approaches, possibly including the use of animal husbandry practices, synergized pesticides, rotation of acaricides, pesticide mixture formulations, manual removal of ticks, selection for host resistance, nutritional management, release of sterile male hybrids, environmental management, plant species that are unfavourable to ticks, pasture management, plant extracts, essential oils and vaccination. Integrated tick management consists of the systematic combination of at least two control technologies aiming to reduce selection pressure in favour of acaricide-resistant individuals, while maintaining adequate levels of animal production. The purpose of this paper is to present a current review on conventional acaricide and macrocyclic lactone resistance for better understanding and control of resistant ticks with particular emphasis on R. microplus on cattle
The far-IR spectrum of Sagittarius B2 region: Extended molecular absorption, photodissociation and photoionization
We present large scale 9'x 27'(25 pc x 70 pc) far-IR observations around Sgr
B2 using the Long-wavelength spectrometer (LWS) on board the Infrared Space
Observatory (ISO). The spectra are dominated by the strong continuum emission
of dust, the widespread molecular absorption of light hydrides (OH, CH and H2O)
and the fine structure lines of [NII], [NIII], [OIII], [CII] and [OI]. The
molecular richness in the outer layers of Sgr B2 is probed by the ISO-LWS
Fabry-Perot (35 km s^-1) detections towards Sgr B2(M), where more that 70 lines
from 15 molecular and atomic species are observed at high signal to noise

Controlled nucleation of topological defects in the stripe domain patterns of Lateral multilayers with Perpendicular Magnetic Anisotropy: competition between magnetostatic, exchange and misfit interactions
Magnetic lateral multilayers have been fabricated on weak perpendicular
magnetic anisotropy amorphous Nd-Co films in order to perform a systematic
study on the conditions for controlled nucleation of topological defects within
their magnetic stripe domain pattern. A lateral thickness modulation of period
is defined on the nanostructured samples that, in turn, induces a lateral
modulation of both magnetic stripe domain periods and average
in-plane magnetization component . Depending on lateral multilayer
period and in-plane applied field, thin and thick regions switch independently
during in-plane magnetization reversal and domain walls are created within the
in-plane magnetization configuration coupled to variable angle grain boundaries
and disclinations within the magnetic stripe domain patterns. This process is
mainly driven by the competition between rotatable anisotropy (that couples the
magnetic stripe pattern to in-plane magnetization) and in-plane shape
anisotropy induced by the periodic thickness modulation. However, as the
structural period becomes comparable to magnetic stripe period ,
the nucleation of topological defects at the interfaces between thin and thick
regions is hindered by a size effect and stripe domains in the different

High Angular Resolution Observations of the Collimated Jet Source Associated with a Massive Protostar in IRAS 16547-4247
A triple radio source recently detected in association with the luminous
infrared source IRAS 16547-4247 has been studied with high angular resolution
and high sensitivity with the Very Large Array at 3.6 and 2 cm. Our
observations confirm the interpretation that the central object is a thermal
radio jet, while the two outer lobes are most probably heavily obscured HH
objects. The thermal radio jet is resolved angularly for the first time and
found to align closely with the outer lobes. The opening angle of the thermal
jet is estimated to be , confirming that collimated outflows can
also be present in massive protostars. The proper motions of the outer lobes
should be measurable over timescales of a few years. Several fainter sources
detected in the region are most probably associated with other stars in a young
