Optimization of Excitation in FDTD Method and Corresponding Source Modeling

    Get PDF
Source and excitation modeling in FDTD formulation has a significant impact on the method performance and the required simulation time. Since the abrupt source introduction yields intensive numerical variations in whole computational domain, a generally accepted solution is to slowly introduce the source, using appropriate shaping functions in time. The main goal of the optimization presented in this paper is to find balance between two opposite demands: minimal required computation time and acceptable degradation of simulation performance. Reducing the time necessary for source activation and deactivation is an important issue, especially in design of microwave structures, when the simulation is intensively repeated in the process of device parameter optimization. Here proposed optimized source models are realized and tested within an own developed FDTD simulation environment

Performance Improvement of QPSK Signal Predetection EGC Diversity Receiver

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a modification of quadrature phase-shift-keying (QPSK) signal diversity reception with predetection equal gain combiner (EGC). The EGC combining is realized by using the constant modulus algorithm (CMA). Carrier synchronization is performed by the phase locked loop (PLL). Comparative analysis of the modified and ordinary diversity receiver in the presence of carrier frequency offset in the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel, as well as in Rician fading channel is shown. The proposed diversity receiver allows significant frequency offset compared to the diversity receiver that uses only PLL, and the error probability of the proposed receiver is very close to the error probability of the receiver with only PLL and zero frequency offset. The functionality of the proposed diversity receiver, as well as its properties is experimentally verified on a system based on universal software radio peripheral (USRP) hardware. The performed comparison confirms the expected behavior of the system

Jordanian Quantum Deformations of D=4 Anti-de-Sitter and Poincare Superalgebras

We consider a superextension of the extended Jordanian twist, describing nonstandard quantization of anti-de-Sitter (AdSAdS) superalgebra osp(1∣4)osp(1|4) in the form of Hopf superalgebra. The super-Jordanian twisting function and corresponding basic coproduct formulae for the generators of osp(1∣4)osp(1|4) are given in explicit form. The nonlinear transformation of the classical superalgebra basis not modifying the defining algebraic relations but simplifying coproducts and antipodes is proposed. Our physical application is to interpret the new super-Jordanian deformation of osp(1∣4)osp(1|4) superalgebra as deformed D=4 AdSAdS supersymmetries. Subsequently we perform suitable contraction of quantum Jordanian AdSAdS superalgebra and obtain new Îș\kappa-deformation of D=4 Poincare superalgebra, with the bosonic sector describing the light cone Îș\kappa-deformation of Poincare symmetries.Comment: LaTeX,13 pages, comments and references added, to be published in Eur.Phys.J.

A Possible Bifurcation in Atmospheres of Strongly Irradiated Stars and Planets

We show that under certain circumstances the differences between the absorption mean and Planck mean opacities can lead to multiple solutions for an LTE atmospheric structure. Since the absorption and Planck mean opacities are not expected to differ significantly in the usual case of radiative equilibrium, non-irradiated atmospheres, the most interesting situations where the effect may play a role are strongly irradiated stars and planets, and also possibly structures where there is a significant deposition of mechanical energy, such as stellar chromospheres and accretion disks. We have presented an illustrative example of a strongly irradiated giant planet where the bifurcation effect is predicted to occur for a certain range of distances from the star.Comment: 22 pages, 6 figures, submitted to Ap

UWB System Performance Improvement Using Smart Interference Rejection Filter

    Get PDF
In this paper we proposed a smart interference rejection filter in TH-PPM UWB system, which improves the system\'s error probability for an order of magnitude in case of high power OFDM interference. The smart filter is based on an adaptive transversal filter. Based on the fulfillment of certain conditions, the filter activates or deactivates some parts of it

    Noncommutative space-time models

The FRT quantum Euclidean spaces OqNO_q^N are formulated in terms of Cartesian generators. The quantum analogs of N-dimensional Cayley-Klein spaces are obtained by contractions and analytical continuations. Noncommutative constant curvature spaces are introduced as a spheres in the quantum Cayley-Klein spaces. For N=5 part of them are interpreted as the noncommutative analogs of (1+3) space-time models. As a result the quantum (anti) de Sitter, Newton, Galilei kinematics with the fundamental length and the fundamental time are suggested.Comment: 8 pages; talk given at XIV International Colloquium of Integrable Systems, Prague, June 16-18, 200

    Quantitative spectroscopy of Deneb

Quantitative spectroscopy of luminous BA-type supergiants offers a high potential for modern astrophysics. The degree to which we can rely on quantitative studies of this class of stars as a whole depends on the quality of the analyses for benchmark objects. We constrain the basic atmospheric parameters and fundamental stellar parameters as well as chemical abundances of the prototype A-type supergiant Deneb to unprecedented accuracy (Teff = 8525 +/- 75 K, log(g) = 1.10 +/- 0.05 dex, M_spec = 19 +/- 3 M_sun, L = 1.96 +/- 0.32 *10^5 L_sun, R = 203 +/- 17 R_sun, enrichment with CN-processed matter) by applying a sophisticated hybrid NLTE spectrum synthesis technique which has recently been developed and tested. The study is based on a high-resolution and high-S/N spectrum obtained with the Echelle spectrograph FOCES on the Calar Alto 2.2m telescope. Practically all inconsistencies reported in earlier studies are resolved. Multiple metal ionization equilibria and numerous hydrogen lines from the Balmer, Paschen, Brackett and Pfund series are brought into match simultaneously for the stellar parameter determination. Stellar wind properties are derived from H_alpha line-profile fitting using line-blanketed hydrodynamic non-LTE models. A self-consistent view of Deneb is thus obtained, allowing us to discuss its evolutionary state in detail by comparison with the most recent generation of evolution models for massive stars. Body Measures in Endangered Domestic Balkan Donkey Breed

    Get PDF
Information regarding morphology of endangered autochthonous donkey breed in Serbia is insufficient. The aim of the study was to establish 18 morphometric values for the Balkan donkey breed and to explore possible age dependence of the parameters tested. In addition, inter-breed similarity of morphometric parameters was assessed by comparing the data obtained for the Balkan donkey with available morphometric measurements of several previously characterized donkey breeds. The study population included 74 donkeys, divided in two age groups (group A ≀ 3 years; group B > 3 years). Significant morphometric differences (p<0.05) in body length, head length, chest circumference and body weight were found between two age groups. Significant differences in morphological parameters were revealed among the Balkan donkey and other donkey breeds (Catalonian, Croatian and Albanian). However, the smallest distance was between the Balkan donkey and Albanian donkeys as demonstrated by the results of cluster analysis. The results of morphometric analyses showed consistency of the obtained values within the breed, and diversity as compared to other donkey breeds, and, thus, could be taken as referent for the Domestic Balkan donkey. The information gained through this comprehensive morphometric characterization of the Balkan donkey breed provides a basis for conservation and development of the breed standard

Gauge theory on kappa-Minkowski revisited: the twist approach

Kappa-Minkowski space-time is an example of noncommutative space-time with potentially interesting phenomenology. However, the construction of field theories on this space is plagued with ambiguities. We propose to resolve certain ambiguities by clarifying the geometrical picture of gauge transformations on the kappa-Minkowski space-time in the twist approach. We construct the action for the noncommutative U(1) gauge fields in a geometric way, as an integral of a maximal form. The effective action with the first order corrections in the deformation parameter is obtained using the Seiberg-Witten map to relate noncommutative and commutative degrees of freedom.Comment: Based on talks given at QTS7 (Prague), BW2011 (Donji Milanovac), Corfu2011, BlagojevicFest (Divcibare
