Clinical Significance of Peripheral Blood T Lymphocyte Subsets in Helicobacter pylori-Infected Patients
Background. Helicobacter pylori chronically colonizes gastric/duodenal mucosa and induces gastroduodenal disease and vigorous humoral and cellular immune responses. Methods. In order to clarify the immunological changes induced by this infection, we determined the percentage and, as indicated, ratios of the following cells in peripheral blood of 45 H. pylori-infected patients and 21 control subjects: CD4+ T cell, CD8+ T cells, T helper 1 cells (Th1), T helper 2 cells (Th2), CD4+CD25+ T cells, Foxp3+ regulatory T cells (Tregs), CD4/CD8 ratio, and Th1/Th2 ratio.
Results. The percentage of CD8+ T cells was significantly lower in H. pylori-infected patients (mean ± SD; 18.0 ± 7.1%) compared to control subjects (mean ± SD; 23.2 ± 7.8%) (P < 0.05). The CD4/CD8 ratio was significantly higher in H. pylori-infected patients (mean ± SD; 3.1 ± 2.4) compared to control subjects (mean ± SD; 2.1 ± 1.0) (P < 0.05). The Th1/Th2 ratio was significantly lower in H. pylori-infected patients (mean ± SD; 10.0 ± 8.5) compared to control subjects (mean ± SD; 14.5 ± 9.0) (P < 0.05). The percentage of CD4+CD25+ T cells in H. pylori-infected patients (mean ± SD; 13.2 ± 6.2%) was significantly higher than that in control subjects (mean ± SD; 9.8 ± 3.4%) (P < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference in Tregs. Conclusion. Tregs did not decrease, but the activation of humoral immunity and Th2 polarization were observed in the peripheral blood of H. pylori-infected patients. In some cases, these changes may induce systemic autoimmune diseases
Hot debris dust around HD 106797
Photometry of the A0 V main-sequence star HD 106797 with AKARI and
Gemini/T-ReCS is used to detect excess emission over the expected stellar
photospheric emission between 10 and 20 micron, which is best attributed to hot
circumstellar debris dust surrounding the star. The temperature of the debris
dust is derived as Td ~ 190 K by assuming that the excess emission is
approximated by a single temperature blackbody. The derived temperature
suggests that the inner radius of the debris disk is ~ 14 AU. The fractional
luminosity of the debris disk is 1000 times brighter than that of our own
zodiacal cloud. The existence of such a large amount of hot dust around HD
106797 cannot be accounted for by a simple model of the steady state evolution
of a debris disk due to collisions, and it is likely that transient events play
a significant role. Our data also show a narrow spectral feature between 11 and
12 micron attributable to crystalline silicates, suggesting that dust heating
has occurred during the formation and evolution of the debris disk of HD

In Vitro Assessment of Factors Affecting the Apparent Diffusion Coefficient of Ramos Cells Using Bio-phantoms
The roles of cell density, extracellular space, intracellular factors, and apoptosis induced by the molecularly targeted drug rituximab on the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values were investigated
using bio-phantoms. In these bio-phantoms, Ramos cells (a human Burkittセs lymphoma cell line) were encapsulated in gellan gum. The ADC values decreased linearly with the increase in cell density, and declined steeply when the extracellular space became less than 4 μm. The analysis of ADC values after destruction of the cellular membrane by sonication indicated that approximately 65% of the ADC values of normal cells originate from the cell structures made of membranes and that the remaining 35% originate from intracellular components. Microparticles, defined as particles smaller than the normal cells, increased in number after rituximab treatments, migrated to the extracellular space and significantly decreased the ADC values of bio-phantoms during apoptosis. An in vitro study using bio-phantoms was conducted to quantitatively clarify the roles of cellular factors and of extracellular space in determining the ADC values yielded by tumor cells and the mechanism by which apoptosis changes those values
Actin Family in INO80 Complex
Nuclear actin family proteins, comprising of actin and actin-related proteins (Arps), are essential functional components of the multiple chromatin remodeling complexes. The INO80 chromatin remodeling complex, which is evolutionarily conserved and has roles in transcription, DNA replication and repair, consists of actin and actin-related proteins Arp4, Arp5, and Arp8. We generated Arp5 knockout (KO) and Arp8 KO cells from the human Nalm-6 pre-B cell line and used these KO cells to examine the roles of Arp5 and Arp8 in the transcriptional regulation mediated by the INO80 complex. In both of Arp5 KO and Arp8 KO cells, the oxidative stress-induced expression of HMOX1 gene, encoding for heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), was significantly impaired. Consistent with these observations, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assay revealed that oxidative stress caused an increase in the binding of the INO80 complex to the regulatory sites of HMOX1 in wild-type cells. The binding of INO80 complex to chromatin was reduced in Arp8 KO cells compared to that in the wild-type cells. On the other hand, the binding of INO80 complex to chromatin in Arp5 KO cells was similar to that in the wild-type cells even under the oxidative stress condition. However, both remodeling of chromatin at the HMOX1 regulatory sites and binding of a transcriptional activator to these sites were impaired in Arp5 KO cells, indicating that Arp5 is required for the activation of the INO80 complex. Collectively, these results suggested that these nuclear Arps play indispensable roles in the function of the INO80 chromatin remodeling complex
Detection of an H-alpha Emission Line on a Quasar, RX J1759.4+6638, at z=4.3 with AKARI
We report the detection of an H-alpha emission line in the low resolution
spectrum of a quasar, RX J1759.4+6638, at a redshift of 4.3 with the InfraRed
Camera (IRC) onboard the AKARI. This is the first spectroscopic detection of an
H-alpha emission line in a quasar beyond z=4. The overall spectral energy
distribution (SED) of RX J1759.4+6638 in the near- and mid-infrared wavelengths
agrees with a median SED of the nearby quasars and the flux ratio of
F(Ly-alpha)/F(H-alpha) is consistent with those of previous reports for

Near-infrared and Mid-infrared Spectroscopy with the Infrared Camera (IRC) for AKARI
The Infrared Camera (IRC) is one of the two instruments on board the AKARI
satellite. In addition to deep imaging from 1.8-26.5um for the pointed
observation mode of the AKARI, it has a spectroscopic capability in its
spectral range. By replacing the imaging filters by transmission-type
dispersers on the filter wheels, it provides low-resolution (lambda/d_lambda ~
20-120) spectroscopy with slits or in a wide imaging field-of-view
(approximately 10'X10'). The IRC spectroscopic mode is unique in space infrared
missions in that it has the capability to perform sensitive wide-field
spectroscopic surveys in the near- and mid-infrared wavelength ranges. This
paper describes specifications of the IRC spectrograph and its in-orbit
