KNOWLEDGE-BASED NEURAL NETWORK FOR LINE FLOW CONTINGENCY SELECTION AND RANKING

    Get PDF
The Line flow Contingency Selection and Ranking (CS & R) is performed to rank the critical contingencies in order of their severity. An Artificial Neural Network based method for MW security assessment corresponding to line outage events have been reported by various authors in the literature. One way to provide an understanding of the behaviour of Neural Networks is to extract rules that can be provided to the user. The domain knowledge (fuzzy rules extracted from Multi-layer Perceptron model trained by Back Propagation algorithm) is integrated into a Neural Network for fast and accurate CS & R in an IEEE 14-bus system, for unknown load patterns and are found to be suitable for on-line applications at Energy Management Centers. The system user is provided with the capability to determine the set of conditions under which a line-outage is critical, and if critical, then how severe it is, thereby providing some degree of transparency of the ANN solution

Archiving Web Site Resources: A Records Management View

    Get PDF
In this paper, we propose the use of records management principles to identify and manage Web site resources with enduring value as records. Current Web archiving activities, collaborative or organisational, whilst extremely valuable in their own right, often do not and cannot incorporate requirements for proper records management. Material collected under such initiatives therefore may not be reliable or authentic from a legal or archival perspective, with insufficient metadata collected about the object during its active life, and valuable materials destroyed whilst ephemeral items are maintained. Education, training, and collaboration between stakeholders are integral to avoiding these risks and successfully preserving valuable Web-based materials.

Plant Products as Biopesticides: Building On Traditional Knowledge of Vrkshayurveda: Traditional Indian Plant Science

    Get PDF
Today there is a global search for alternatives to chemical pesticides and as part of this process there are various efforts to test the use and efficacy of natural products for pest control and crop protection. Our Centre has been involved in exploring the traditional knowledge regarding the use of natural products for pest control and crop protection. As part of this effort, we have looked at the traditional folk practices prevalent among farmers as well as information from classical literature on the subject drawn from Vrkshayurveda (traditional Indian plant science). Following this, we have carried out experiments for standardizing and field testing promising natural products by determining the precise range and kind of pests controlled by them, determining the optimum concentration where they can be effective against pests without being harmful to useful organisms and predators as well as studying their mode of action. Subsequently, we have also developed storage forms of various of these products by using methods based on Ayurveda. Studies on the stability and shelf life of these products are also being carried out through an insect rearing laboratory. Finally, we have also set up village based biopesticides units where a range of these products are being prepared thus providing valuable inputs to sustainable agriculture and a means of livelihood to rural women and farmers
