Tracing the Origins of Brazil's Great Acceleration: The SPVEA's Primeiro Plano Quinquenal and the Technoscientific Recovery of Amazonia, 1945-1959
In 1955, the SPVEA launched the Primeiro Plano Quinquenal in response to growing international interest in Amazonia's resources and internal pressure to address the region's chronic underdevelopment. The Plano was the largest modernization plan attempted in Amazonia until then. It aimed at transforming the region's rich ecosystem into the driving force of Brazil's development as well as a major raw material provider for global markets. The article examines this neglected episode of Brazilian developmentalism as an important experience preparing the entrance of Brazil in the so-called Great Acceleration. The Plano established a rational method and constructed a technoscientific infrastructure that did not just organize the modernization of the region as a whole but formed an Anthropocene culture in Amazonia. Via their planned approach to the modernization of Amazonia, the SPVEA planners introduced new representations, demands, and expectations of the region which encouraged the exploitation of its biological reality and linked it to the advancement of Brazil. Thus, the article explores, some specificities of the Great Acceleration in the Global South and sheds new light on the political and cultural origins of the Anthropocene in Brazil
Charge-Exchange and multi-scattering effects in (e,e'n) knockout
Final-state interactions in (e,e'n) knockout reactions in the quasi-free
region are studied by considering the multistep direct scattering of the
ejectile nucleon. Primary and multiple particle emission are included within
the same model and are found to become important with increasing excitation
energy. Charge-exchange effects taken into account through the two-step
(e,e'p)(p,n) and three-step (e,e'p)(p,N)(N,n) processes are also found to
increase with energy. A comparison with the results obtained with an
isospin-dependent optical potential at small excitation energies is presented.Comment: 12 pages, 4 Postscript figures. A new section on multiple particle

MIXING OF TWO GREATER SANDHILL CRANE POPULATIONS IN NORTHEAST OREGON
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) Ladd Marsh Wildlife Area in northeast Oregon hosts a small group of nesting greater sandhill cranes (Grus canadensis tabida). There were no data on where these birds wintered, and we had no understanding of how these birds fit into the larger picture of western sandhill crane population delineation. ODFW began color-banding pre-fledging colts in 2007 and added satellite tracking with platform transmitter terminals (PTTs) in 2015. To date, we have captured 15 colts and 13 adults and marked them with color bands. We also fitted 1 colt and 8 adult cranes with PTTs. In fall 2015, all 3 PTT-marked birds traveled to wintering grounds in the Central Valley and Central Coast ecoregions of California. In fall 2016, of 5 PTT-marked cranes, 4 traveled to the Central Valley and Central Coast ecoregions of California. The fifth individual migrated south through Idaho and Nevada to the Lower Colorado River Valley. The PTT data from our study highlight the need for additional research on the validity of current western sandhill crane population divisions
First measurement of the spectral function at high energy and momentum in medium-heavy nuclei
The experiment E97-006 was performed at Jefferson Lab to measure the momentum
and energy distribution of protons in the nucleus far from the region of the
(approximate) validity of the mean field description, i.e. at high momentum and
energies. The occurrence of this strength is long known from occupation numbers
less than one. In the experiment reported here this strength was directly
measured for the first time. The results are compared to modern many-body
theories. Further the transparency factor of C12 was determined in the

The electron-nucleon cross section in reactions
We examine commonly used approaches to deal with the scattering of electrons
from a bound nucleon. Several prescriptions are shown to be related by gauge
transformations. Nevertheless, due to current non-conservation, they yield
different results. These differences reflect the size of the uncertainty that

Realistic Interactions and Dilepton production off pp-collisions
We present a model for dilepton production of proton-proton collisions using
a realist T-matrix that by incorporating Delta-isobar degrees of freedom fits
the NN-scattering data up to 2 GeV. The results we find differ in details from
earlier work that use less sophisticated interactions but the overall agreement
