Storage of lyophilized cultures of Lactobacillus bulgaricus under different relative humidities and atmospheres
The viability of lyophilized cultures of Lactobacillus bulgaricus in skim milk, during storage at different temperatures, relative humidities, and atmospheres was investigated. Survival was greatest at 11% relative humidity and at 5°C. Indirect and direct evidence is presented supporting the hypothesis that membrane damage occurs during storage. Experiments on the lipid composition of the cell membrane demonstrate that changes occur with time that are probably the result of oxidation. A study on the lipid composition of the cell membrane by gas chromatography showed that the unsaturated/saturated fatty acid index changes with time during storage
Corporate Governance Effect on Firms’ Achievements- UAE.doc

Corporate governance defined as the collection of mechanisms
designed and adopted to control the management decision making activities,
which is expected to affect positively the firms’ achievements, and firm's market
value. This research shows the effects of the corporate governed firm achievements
in the UAE. The governance mechanisms employed in this study are: the board
size, board independence, and review committee’s characteristics. The review
committee characteristics which examined are: the review committee member’s
independence, the number of the financial experts in the board, the amount of meeting
held in a year, and the incentives received by the review committee members.
This paper uses all the public listed corporations in the UAE financial markets.
The secondary data for four years are used starting from 2010 where the
mandatory corporate governance code had been mandated. Board independence has
been found to negatively affect the firms’ achievements. While no effect has
been found for AC meetings or the financial experts within the committee, the
AC incentives and the AC independence negatively affected the firm achievements.
This study is supposed to fill the gap of the lack in the corporate governance
studies based on the UAE. Besides that this research investigates the reviewcommittee’s
characters effect on the achievements of firms’ which was rarely covered in
literature. </p
Unconscious Mental Processes in Consumer Choice: Toward a New Model of Consumer Behavior
Theories of consumer behavior often posit that consumers are rational agents making conscious decisions about the branded products and services they purchase and use. It is assumed that consumer decisions are preceded by an explicit formation of attitudes and needs that determine the brand of choice. However, research from the domain of automaticity proposes that the majority, if not all, of human behavior either begins as an unconscious process or occurs completely outside of conscious awareness. These automatic processes, including behavioral mimicry, trait and stereotype activation, and nonconscious goal pursuit, also impact attitudes, beliefs and goals without engaging consumers\u27 conscious minds. Habits, a special type of automaticity, are behaviors completely controlled by contextual stimuli; habits occur outside of goals and intentions. In light of the evidence for the primacy of unconscious behavior, this article proposes a new model of consumer behavior that dynamically incorporates both conscious and unconscious mental processes to represent how consumers make brand decisions in the context of their daily lives
